In the large variety of foods in Lafayette Gourmet, it is hard to chose. Asian? Cheese and charcuterie? Italian? Or how about Greek food? I love Greek food, some don't. I love the use of simple ingredients, but also how versatile these ingredients can be. Mavrommatis does good when it comes to show Greek cuisine.
The deli boosts an amazing arrange of culinary wonders. From salad to filo pastries. From creamy dips to meat on a stick. I do not regret bringing this food with me to the hotel.
The 'Melitzanopita' was very tasty. Filo pastry filled with chopped aubergine, chopped black olives and feta cheese. Indeed very tasty, but I also loved the flakiness and crunchiness of the pastry dough. A gentle touch with hummus and you are going to heaven (although hummus may not be so Greek).
The hummus was good. Not the best, but definitely not the worst I have tried either. I had to side dishes as well; aubergine fondue and chickpeas with tomato and haricot verts. The latter was a bit boring and tasteless, but the aubergine mix was very tasty.
The price was a bit high. You can not expect anything but, as the location is prime. The service wasn't so amazing either, but Mavrommatis is a pretty fine place for some take-away mezze. I enjoyed it and would gladly return. read more
