SCAM!! Do not go here! I purchased a tire from this place five weeks ago and had a tear in the brand new tire. When I brought it to them, the assistant manager Tazjon Brinkley was there and informed me there was nothing they could do, even though they clearly gave me a defective tire. All of my other tires that were purchased from another vendor over a year ago were perfect besides the new one I purchased from Mavis last month. He called the store manager Erik and also said there's nothing they could do nor could they provide a discount to purchase a new tire. The customer service here is disgusting. Googled if they can replace a valve stem. Of course it said any REPUTABLE tire shop can. I had a flat tire and drove 2 miles to the shop. The manager Eric told me "we don't do these cars" (I drive a BMW) and when I asked why not, he told me "we have issues programming the TPMS". So I told him I don't care about my TPMS light being on, my tire is FLAT and you're a TIRE SHOP and I just want my FLAT FIXED. He told me "I'm not comfortable doing work on your car. We don't do those here".... So I took it to the OTHER Mavis which is on the other side of town (Spring Valley) and spoke to a gentleman named Gary who was extremely professional and told me "no problem pull over we got you".... TERRIBLE! Scheduled an inspection for 12PM on a Sunday. Got there and checked in. Was told they were just finishing up an alignment and would be with me right after that. My husband and i waited 40 minutes. When we inquired we were told that they cannot perform inspections one right after the other and the machine needs 30 minutes to "cool down". He said it could be another 40 minutes to an hour before we would be helped. When reminded that we had an appointment for 12PM the gentleman said that an appointment only guarantees that we would be helped at some point in the day! I have never in my life heard of such a thing. Needless to say I could not devote my entire day to waiting so i was unable to get my inspection done. I have used the Mavis in Closter NJ the past for tires, but will NEVER recommend or go to a Mavis again. read more

The Afternoon Crew here currently @ Mavis Discount Tire Nanuet (Smith st), NY are assets to this family owned and operated business / team STILL! I all ways just drive in there and say this car (2016 Ford Focus down the street from the Ford Dealership kinda) needs fixing! I get a little warning that it may take some time if you wait, BUT competitive prices with discount coupons is the order of the day. Now sometimes, 3 days later, its like why did this happen again? The result? oh we will look at it and fix it, must of missed it, because when you walk in -- Mavis Discount Tire Nanuet actually work on appointments. So hey we fixed the flat but you need brake pads (indeed i did), we fixed the flat but you need all four new tires (Indeed I did). We will take a 3 day later, closer look why the tire sensor went off again, oh and you need new shock absorbers the current 2016, 8 year old original shocks need replacing they are leaking (Indeed I did). I drive this car 70 miles a day RT #Brooklyn NYC on the FDR. This coming weekend I will be happy motoring to the Cape and Islands, MA truly w/o doubt, worry or fear thanks to this team at Mavis Discount Tire! Highly recommend. I don't have / need any insurance at all, not even car collision. But when it came time for four new tires last Oct. 2023, I DID GET the tire insurance and you should too! all those three slow leak flat tires repairs were free! I am worth any additional cost. Went yesterday , Friday 1/24/25 to have 4 tires mounted, balanced and installed on my new car with 7,200 miles on it. I replaced the tires with All Season tires because the tires that came on the car were Summer Only tires. Met Louis, confirmed that the tires were the correct ones though they were old and looked it, full of cob webs and very dirty, date coded 2323 meaning they were made in the 23rd week of 2023 which means they are a year and a half old. Next I asked if they have the latest tire machines because the factory rims are aluminum and powder coated. I was told yes. Well 1 1/2 hours later they backed the car out of the shop, parked it and I paid the bill only to find once I inspected their work, every wheel had damaged, chips to powder coating, one wheel had a very noticeable gouge in the powder coating across the face of one of the spokes of the wheel. I asked Louis what he was going to do about it and he said "we can have the wheel recondition". There's no recondition that fixes this wheel or the others, they need to be stripped and repowder coated. I told louis I would find out who can do it and let him know. Once home, I further inspected their work and found more issues. When they put the rim on the tire machine, rather than clamping it by the bead of the wheel, they clamped it inside the wheel damaging the black powder coated drum of the wheel, leaving depressions in 4 spots all around the circumference of the wheels from the steel teeth on the tire machine. Further these new tires are an asymmetrical design meaning there is an inside and outside face, marked on the tire from the manufacturer. One tire was installed backwards, inside face was on the outside. Today, Saturday 1/25/25 I go back, see Louis and tell him one tire is mounted backwards. I also tell him they further damaged the drum of every wheel by the way they clamped the wheel on the machine. His response was "do you want to take it somewhere else" to which I replied, NO, I paid you $1,300 and want you to fix your F up and make sure you don't damage the rim any further. I also said, the tech that installed these tires either doesn't know what he's doing or doesn't care Louis then drove the car into the shop and they dismounted the one tire/wheel and remounted it correctly. About 1 hour later it was done and I left. Once home, again I checked this wheel only to find that they AGAIN clamped the wheel on the inside, leaving another set of 4 depressions in the aluminum drum. Incompetence and deplorable customer service that should result in someone being fired! My advice to all that are reading is don't consider this location or Mavis at all for tires if your car has aluminum wheels as do most today. Their service and skill level is barely acceptable for a daily driver beater car or work truck, certainly not a for new vehicle, one with factory/OEM performance wheels and tires. Last to the "business owner" do not reply here telling me you apologize along with the standard bs reply to poor reviews. I will not call you, YOU call me, you have my phone number! The only way this goes away is you pay for all four of my wheels to be repaired by the vendor of my choice or replaced with brand new wheels from GM! read more

Absolutely horrible customer service. Part 1: Thursday afternoon I called ahead to see if the place was busy. The operator said no... we are not busy at all, come in. I get there thinking that my car would be serviced right away. That was not the case. I asked the person at the front desk what was taking so long and they said to me "can't you see we are busy" I said but I just called 10 min before showing up and who ever picked up the phone said that you were not busy, and come right in. Then he says.... you didn't call our store, when you call it goes to our call center and they have no idea if we are busy or not. So basically they lied to me to get me in the door. Part2 I come here at 8:45 Sunday morning and I am the 3rd person waiting on line outside. I have now been waiting here now for over 1 hour and a half and I see people at least 4-5 customers getting their cars in serviced ahead of me.... I asked if my car is done. The lady at the desk says "do you still see your car outside" (in frustration) so.... to be clear their waiting area has a wall that blocks the view of the cars outside so I have no idea if my car was done or not. -if I ask you a question, give me the damn answer. Don't ask me a question that you should have a answer for. I did not come here for your sarcasm!!!! This place is a complete joke. Part 3: I just heard the service guy at the front desk act like a complete a-hole to a customer. Not for nothing the customer was not an easy customer to speak too, but the way you talk back to your customers was uncalled for. You guys are in the service industry.... learn how to serve. Avoid this place. I am an ASE Master Certified mechanic, but my company's policy forbids me to work on my own company vehicle. Unfortunately I am forced to use the "approved" vendor Mavis, much to my regret. Countless times my vehicle was promised to be ready in the morning, only to find after 20 business hours the vehicle hasn't budged from the parking lot. Questioning or asking how much longer will get you nasty rude responses from all levels of employees. It's as if they are doing you a favor and you should just wait hours and even days for this blessing. I recently came here to get a new tire for my flat and waited for them to change the tire. One of the workers the. drove my car out to me and I noticed a huge scratch on the lower part of my passenger side door. I immediately told the worker and manger. The manager looked at me and said it probably was kids skate boarding. I have never seen kids skate boarding in 9 degree weather. The scratch also had yellow dust on it from the lift. I had to take my car here after the Ramsey NJ Mavis totally screwed up my tire replacement. They were courteous, professional and fixed my problems perfectly. I had all 4 tires replaced at the Ramsey NJ location and could barely drive the car after they were done. I took my car directly to this location and spoke to William. He took my car in right away and found that the new tires weren't balanced! They balanced them for me and I was on my way (and they didn't charge me!) They even called me about an hour after I left to make sure everything was ok. Excellent workmanship and customer service! read more

I arrived at 8:00 am and 4 tires were installed, balanced and aligned by 10:30 am. Will kept me informed via phone. They provided a quote for work on the rear brakes but the company I work for has Mechanic in our Truck Shop so I declined. As I was leaving Will told me to have the brakes looked at this week. The younger manager at The Counter ( Chase ?) was very courteous as well. The Mechanics were all presentable. My driver's seat was covered nicely with plastic sheeting and the floor mat was protected as well. I went in, a mother with two small children, because I had a slow leak in one of my tires. They called me a couple hours later to tell me the nail was in a place they couldn't get out without ruining the tire and needed to replace the tire. They wouldn't do this work unless I replaced all my tires and said I needed new struts because they are worn and dangerous. They said between the new tires and struts, it would cost $2800.00. I said I was trying to just get a tire patched and didn't expect this. I'll bring it to my mechanic tomorrow. He says I can give you manger's price and save you a lot of money $2100. I said no, I'll take to my mechanic. I take to my mechanic the next day and he patched the nail hole for $20 and said everything is fine. This place is a total scam. This place isn't good. I spent waiting here with my mother for 3 hours just for a simple oil change. While waiting, we were able to hear a bunch of angry men yelling outside. I went here to have a tire repaired. I had been to this location several times, but it seems there has been turnover or new owners. I didn't recognize anyone. They proceeded to tell me I needed new tires all around, and they would not repair the one with a screw in it. The wear indicators are clearly still below the level of the tread. Above and Beyond for sure! My husband and I were passing through and hit Costco on our way home which means we had $300+ groceries in our trunk when our battery light (alternator problem) went on. My brakes were starting to squeal so I started googling places to get it done. I saw an ad for $99 at Mavis. It was a great price and a really convenient location so I made a 9 AM appointment online. This was Friday afternoon. I drop off the car about 8:50 AM. Told him I was there for a brake check and told him I would head to the very close McDonald's while I wait. I was told they would call me. Well 10:30 am I come back and go to the counter and ask the manager what's going on since I had a 9 AM appointment. He states they had customers from last night and there were people from this morning. So I sit in their waiting area. 90 more minutes passes by, everyone in the waiting area when I sat down were long gone. After 3 hours after my 9 AM appointment I get up and look outside and still see my car where I parked it. I go to the counter and ask for my key back. The guy at the counter tells me my car is next and that they had a a mechanic call out. I still got my key and left. You know what things are understandable. A simple heads up like someone calling me at the McDonald's the 90 minutes I was there, or maybe someone sticking their heads out to the waiting area the 90 minutes I sat there and giving me a heads up would have been nice. Simple courtesies that I didn't get. I've worked 30 years in a customer service job and stuff happened like people calling out and lines backing up. But we let our members know. Most of the time they were appreciative of the heads up. So in the end I wasted 3 hours. I didn't get my brakes checked let alone fixed. I do know I will never come to this Mavis again. Knocking my review down a star - I did end up bringing my car here for the inspection and SHOCKER (Not - based on the other reviews in regards to safety inspections) the guy tried guilting me into getting brakes. I've been bringing my cars here for servicing for the past several years. I have historically found the staff to be very attentive work with me on pricing generally and accurately repaired my car. The staff knows me by name and they always treat me properly and with respect especially Dominic ANTHONY and Jason. Today I brought my car in for an oil change; the same oil change that cost me no more than $20 for the past couple of years. I got tagged with a bill for $45 for oil change because As was explained to me was the rising price of oil. I changed my break pads at this location in July 2018 with life time warranty on break pads printed on my receipt. When I was checking out yesterday(May 2019), I saw that my rare break pads were changed, so I told Jason, the manager of this location, I changed the break pads at this location before and it should be covered by the warranty. He checked the system and told me that I changed the front break pads, not rare. I paid and left. Later, I returned with my receipt from 2018, it clearly state that I changed front and rare break pads in July 2018 at this location, he then agree to process a refund. I was expecting a refund of the cost of the parts $89.99 + tax, but he insist in refunding "the difference between parts and labor". I asked why, he keep saying that's how it works. I ended up only getting $28 and some chance in refund. I am pretty sure he saw the record when I was checking out and he just didn't want to apply the warranty. Very disappointed. read more

He was telling me the tire needed to be changed and I said I would do it elsewhere at our own mechanic. We were going back & forth about a simple thing. Long story short he hangs up on me. I head to Mavis to pick up my car with my cousin. Dominic is at the counter and calls us next, gets our paperwork snd key and tells us to follow him. He proceeds to show me my tire and rim right in front of where the cars are being worked on. He tells me condescendingly, "look inside your tire, you drove with a flat and did that to it," which I replied, "ok, can I get my keys." He then says, "you're going to have to pull up and put this in your car." (The tire and rim). I then reply, " ok, but I need my keys. Can you please give me my keys?" He is still holding on to the keys and he has the paperwork. He takes the paperwork out, proceeds to read it and still has my keys in the pouch and says in a RUDE tone, "yo, you have a lot of attitude bro." I reply," don't call me bro." I am not his bro, I am a customer getting a service. No need for slang. So this guy shouts ,"get your stuff and get out of here" he gives me my keys and as I am walking away, I tell my cousin "this is fucked up." He then goes and says, "SHUT UP YOU FCKN FAT BITCH" & gets extremely nasty and aggressive, throwing arms and hands up walking towards us trying to accomplish I don't know what! There is another employee there & we ask what this guys name is. He says he doesn't know. We then proceed inside & ask Jose for the guys full name & the number to corporate. He says it's Dominic Olivier, but wasn't sure. We Then walk to my car & get inside mortified About what just happened. Jose comes to the car & apologizes. He said he gave us the corporate number on the card, but that he is the one that ultimately handles the employees and basically a call to corporate would not solve a thing. We tell Him we will take our chances and also refresh his memory about him earlier hanging up the phone on me, which I didn't even bring up. He apologized and said he would speak to Dominic. An hour later, my brother calls Dominic to clarify the intensely horrible situation that had just occurred and of course this 6ft man says that I called him a stupid MFer. He gets extremely confrontational & tells my brother to "come see him" in a threatening manner. He then asks my brother his full name and my brother gives it to him like a MAN should. There should never be any shame with giving out your full name unless you did something wrong. Well after that phone call, I call Dominic so I can get his name directly and let him know that no one is buying his lie. I am a 5'2" adult woman, who can have a civilized conversation EVEN when someone else was insanely rude. He gets on the phone, doesn't even take accountability for his behavior and proceeds to say we're harassing him. Seriously? After you insulted a customer and for aggressive, & they are calling you directly, that's all you got? To hide behind a harassment claim? No one is harassing anyone. Using condescending and inappropriate tone is hostile harassment. I should have filed a police report. He hangs up and I call back and Jose picks up & he starts with the same harassment song. After Jose was extremely apologetic in person, he chooses to play macho tough guy "i-am"being harassed"on the phone. Pathetic response. I AM MORTIFIED that people like this manage and deal with the general public. Apparently, this is an ongoing issue. Normally I do not take the time to write a review, but after my experience I felt I had to. I am a manager at a local retailer, very close to Mavis and travel in from the Bronx. On Christmas Eve, I had stopped in there on my way to work to see if they could look at my tire, as it was constantly losing air and once again the low air pressure light had gone on. I was happy they could fit me in. I also asked if they could do an oil change. They said I could wait, but I elected to walk to work, as I was nearby. Two hours later, they called to tell me I needed back brakes, and they had a special for $499.99 with a life time warranty. I was skeptical, because I do have a regular mechanic in the Bronx and take my car to him regularly. I had remembered he did the back brakes when it was last inspected. I told them this and they didn't seem to believe me and continued to try and sell me on the brakes. I told them no and that I would take it to my mechanic and to please just do the tire and oil change, which they hadn't even started. I then had to call later on to see if my car was ready and was told yes , but was still kept waiting when I went there, as they were finishing putting back my glove compartment from replacing the cabin air filter and then they had to add air to all of my fires. All this cost me over $300, oil change and a flat fix. Needless to say, on Monday February 13th, I took my car for an inspection and Matty, my mechanic, said my brakes were fine and that basically, they had tried to take advantage of me and scam me into getting back brakes. In fairness, one has got to understand Mavis's primary business is tires and they excel both in price and service when it comes to tires. Went in for 4 tires only, of course they up sell you on an alignment, I watched from outside ,they did all 4 tires and never did the alignment...they called immediately to say car was complete. If i wasn't watching I never would have known, it's a upsell scam, they probably do it All the time.I was pissed....I didn't even want it, they adjusted the bill...still it made me so mad ......So just a follow up, I ended up speaking on the phone with a " regional manager "a day or two after who says to me "what can we do to make this right". I found out after brining my car back for a tire change that they accidentally swapped one of my tires with a random tire that ended up being the wrong size and was willing to have me drive that home. After that I end up having to buy another tire from them to put on the car. Only to have another issue. Now the wheel is scratching the caliper cover. This place is the worst!! I went there to get my cousin's tire that had pop replaced with a new one. He made a reservation and all I would have to do is get there and let them put the new tire on the rim. 1 hour later and nothing had been done, apparently I was 12 customers behind and that they would be done before they close at 5, I got there at 12:30 and I had work soon. They then tell me that they would have to order the tire online because they didn't have it. The funny thing is that we were sent there because apparently they had it when other Mavis near us didn't. So I decide to leave and call my cousin that they said they would call him when the car would be done. They did, they told him that they had a tire that would be a fit. He got there only to be told that they didn't have it even though they called minutes ago saying they had it. Saying to come back tomorrow morning that it would be done by then. The thing that pisses me off was that the guy was ordering the tire 1 hour after I got there and didn't even tell me directly that they would need to do that. All he said was that it would be done before 5, the damn thing wouldn't probably be delivered until tomorrow and was telling me it would be done by 5? Then after I left and my cousin calls and it's told that they have a tire that fits, only to be told it would be done tomorrow? I know I repeated my self twice there but that shows how unorganized they were. Even when I first came in to the parking, the mechanic guy did something to the car next to me and car oil started to spill and it was slowly going under my car which that goes to show that they didn't even know what they were doing. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. Went in for an oil change and they had told me I needed new brakes. Mavis never mentions this to me when I do my oil changes UNLESS it needs to be done which I appreciated. But after my experience today, I will now be finding somewhere else to get my oil changed and a new mechanic. The original guy I spoke too said if I don't get my brake pads replaced, I'll need new rotors. So I said I'd be in in a couple of days. Upon arriving, I had explained to a different guy I just needed new brake pads, got a phone call and the guy said it was $500 something for everything. Seemed super pricey since my front brakes were under warranty, but I told him I just needed new brake pads. Upon arriving I found out my bill was over $600 and they ADDED UNNECESSARY ROTORS TO MY BILL. So after complaining they gave me over $100 off. $100 off doesn't suffice the $400 Rotor and labor for this. What should have been a $270 job. Turned into a $574 bill. I will NOT be returning to Mavis for anymore car trouble. Absolutely ridiculous. Instead of arguing with Mavis, what's done is done. All I can do is learn and walk away and explain to others how Mavis ripped me off. read more

Got an engine oil change, tires rotation....... After a few months, when I checked the dipstick, the oil level was one inch above the max level, they either added too much oil or didn't drain the old oil and never checked the dipstick. The lug nuts were overtired, when I took off wheels, 3 lugs and a stud were damaged and they had to be replaced. read more

This store is the absolute worst!! 2 months ago, dropped car off to get nail removed and plugged. Car sat there the entire day and never got touched. Last week had another flat tire, went there and they had to order new tire. They advised it would be in Monday. Went to drop it off and they said the order was cancelled and they do not know why. Seems to be under new management and they are definitely staffed with incompetent people now. In both cases we went right to Eastern state tire on west Nyack road and were taken care of immediately. Staff is very friendly and helpful and they do quality work! Myself or my family will never step foot into Mavis again!! read more

HORRIFIC. They failed my car for 95% rear brake wear. Refused repair as car was certified by dealer 30 days ago with maximum 25% wear. Took car to another inspection station. PASSED! I think that says it all. read more
