Sign of the Bear Kitchenware in Sonoma, CA, is in the historic Sonoma Plaza shopping district…read more Sign of the Bear kitchenware. Say that 10 times fast. Just as fun to say, it's fun to browse even if you're not a home chef. They have brand name, quality cookware, bakeware, and kitchen items. Gifts and gadgets. Basic items (inexpensive) to "what do I do with this" specialized items (pricier). All at reasonable, competitive pricing for the brands. Locally owned since 1972. Awesome! The place is not particularly large, but they have a knack for utilizing space without feeling cluttered. I stopped in recently because I happen to be in the area and heard they carry Smithy, American made cast iron cookware. In particular I was looking for the carbon steel line of Smithy which is supposedly lighter in weight than their cast iron line. The young sales associate helped me locate the Smithy display. He was aware of the brand and knew where it was exactly in the shop. Lovely, gorgeous pieces. Pricing was on par. After doing my weightlifting kitchen curl test with a 10 inch skillet, I concluded that it is less weighty but I'm too weak to handle even that carbon steel weight. However I am uncommonly lacking the normal upper body strength. So you most likely will not have the same issue as I.

If you like high-end kitchenware, you have got to check the store out…read more It was quite the learning experience for me, I had no idea Zwillings owned so many high-end companies Zwilling Henckels Miyabi BSF Demeyere Staub Fontignac Ballarini I came away very impressed. That is a hard hitting lineup. The sales were very exciting. First there was a storewide 20% off sale. And then some of the individual pieces had some pretty impressive reductions. However, remember this is an outlet store. I found some of the most heavily discounted equipment had cosmetic flaws. On the other hand, I went to the Le Creuset store two decades ago and got myself a Dutch oven which had a cosmetic flaw, and that thing has been working great the whole time. But before you go to town, check to see if the warranty is in effect. It's kind of pity that my kitchen is so well stocked with equipment. Between the discounts and the excellent selection, I would been in deep trouble with this store several decades ago. While it's easy to focus on the knives and the cookware there is a lot more to the store. They carry an incredible number of small kitchen accessories that can solve common problems. The expert and friendly sales person showed me a really nice magnetic bar, which can be used to mount knives in otherwise wasted spaces in the kitchen. Unfortunately, for the sales person, I already had one of these. But I can definitely testify that this is an incredibly useful device. Some people complain that magnetic bars ruin your knives. But you have to know the trick to using them. Basically you have to kind of peel the knife off the magnetic bar and this prevents scratching and other minor damage. Also, if your knives are looking scratched, there is a whetstone with an incredibly fine grit that will put a mirror polish on your knives. Scratches are not the disaster you think they are. So stop feeling bad about all your kitchen problems and go to this store which has more solutions than you realize. Remember to bring your knives if you need them sharpened.

Who doesn't love a good factory outlet?!…read more The factory outlet stores in Vacaville is the shopping center that is one of if not the largest between Sacramento and San Francisco. It absolutely is filled with many of the better upscale shopping choices, as well as, many of the stores that you'll see at some of the smaller outlets. I decided to pop into Zwilling to check out their weekend sale. If you have a Dutch oven obsession, this is absolutely your place to shop. Yes, it's pricey, but it's all about quality right?! The store is relatively small, and they seem to have a smattering of everything that the company carries or at least most things. If it wasn't for the fact that I had other places to go and things to do, I could've spent so much more time here. The staff is super friendly and very attentive. They don't hover, but definitely make themselves available for questions and help. And if they don't have an answer, they will immediately ask more senior employee to help them out. The store is neat and tidy, and if you love cooking on any level, this absolutely is a store that you should explore! From the Dutch ovens, to the knives, if you're looking for quality and perhaps even a deal, you will get both here!

I have been using my wood fired Mugnaini Oven for about four years and absolutely love it. I use…read moreit for pizza but also have been baking sour dough bread in the oven as well as roasting Chicken and Vegetables. It is such a beautiful way of cooking. And the company Mugnaini did a wonderful job making the oven and installing it for us. One of my neighbors builds restaurants and he had tried a few different ovens for his home before getting a Mugnaini oven. He said it is night and day using Mugnaini over some of the other options. The oven bricks come from Italy and bring the magic to our home.

I truly regret having to write a poor review for this company and oven. I will say that the oven…read moreitself is pretty good. What is so disappointing is the poor service and complete lack of willingness by Mugnaini to stand behind their product and mistake. When I ordered my oven I explained to the salesperson that it would be several months before I would be able to assemble it. I was told that the refractory mortar included with the oven had an expiration date but would be good for at least a year. Approximately four months after receiving my oven I began assembly. Upon opening the mortar we found it already dried and unusable. The mortar had a expiration date on the container. The product had in fact expired 4 months BEFORE it had even been SHIPPED. Whether by mistake or a disregard for the date I was shipped mortar that was no good MONTHS before it even left Mugnaini. I figured that mistakes happen and contacted Mugnaini and explained the issue. I even included a photo of the long expired product. I was completely shocked when the Mugnaini representative informed me that they would not stand behind their product and obvious mistake. I was told that I would have to buy more mortar at an exorbitant price from Mugnaini. Further I was told that I could not use mortar from any other supplier so I ordered more from them. This company is in the business of shipping ovens and related items. One would think that they would know how to ship them. Not so! They ship the very expensive mortar only to find a month later that their method does not allow mortar. At that point with my project months delayed soley due to Mugnaini's many mistakes they then informed me that I could easily buy replacement mortar from several sources on Amazon for a fraction of their overpriced product. In short, Mugnaini shipped defective and unusable products then tried to gouge me on a replacement for their mistake and lied about its availability elsewhere. I strongly suggest that anyone considering this oven do a lot of investigation before purchasing. There are lots of alternatives available from companies that stand behind their products and provide quality customer service. I would be happy to provide photo documentation of every fact represented in this review.
