This was my first time going to a murder mystery dinner - something I have been wanting to try forever. TOTALLY disappointed! It wasn't what I imagined. This production was at 259 Granby St in Norfolk, VA, and this venue is NOT suitable for this type of event. It was entirely too small for an interactive show. People were sitting all over each other. It was a 4 hour event and I believe this is only because you spent majority of the time trying to ensure everyone made it to the front to look at the crime scene, evidence, etc. The food was cold and HORRIBLE. Not to mention dinner didn't come with a drink other than tap water. You had to purchase canned soda or juice at inflated prices. We actually left when desert was served. $120+ for 2 tickets WASTED! I've read a lot of really mean reviews about this experience. I have to say, I had a great time. First of all, the Granby Theater is a fantastic venue. Of course it was cheesy-- it's dinner theater! However, I thought the performances were fun, the actors did a great job interacting with the crowd. The story was light but clever and the crowd work was funny. The food... was a buffet. It's fine. Don't go for the food. Also-- people complaining about the bar being extra-- that was clear in the description. If you want an edgy, complex murder mystery... this isn't for you. In some places in entire row had to get up and move to allow someone to pass. With a buffet and no table drink service, this was very annoying. Buffet- the other reviews were right. For the love of all good, do not go to this and waste your money. This is not an entertaining murder mystery to say the least. If anything the production should be actually be charged with a misdemeanor for taking your money by false pretenses. Here is a take away: 1. Yes the food is not great but it is not bad. It is buffet style so you have to consider that you are not ordering from a menu and not having actual waiters and waitresses serve you. Saw some reviews about using disposable plates and utensils but did not have any issues. 2. Once you get your food and return to the table, you are literally eating in the dark. They should at least cut some lights on while you eat so you can see your food. It is so dark you can barely see the people at your table much less read a handout the production company gives you about the show. 3. Once you finish eating, you literally have to use your light on your cell phone to read the handout. This is where the first big miss is on the program. The "murder" you are about to witness should be setup by this pamphlet so you can get some enthusiasm going. Nope it just has some random write up about Maverick being a detective with no introduction to the cast, the plot or anything. Oh yeah it has where you are going to write down who done it later but that is the only thing done right the rest of the evening. 3. We saw one entitled "Bachelorette Party". To Jump ahead, I believe it was written by a ten year old. Maybe a chuckle or two but that is about it. It was absolutely a terrible script. 3. The script has no real opening as Detective Maverick and the other actors are on stage randomly talking about nothing of material. No setup on the party, no introduction of the characters (remember you did not get a setup from the pamphlet) and certainly no explanation why a Detective is already involved. 4. Then everyone leaves the stage except the detective and he spends the next 20 minutes just rambling about how long they being doing this, what a murder mystery is and how he is going to gather clues. 5. Then the actors return and the murdered person comes to the stage and dies. The show is then stopped again so audience members can go on the stage and look at the murdered person for clues. Another waste of time where an 1 hour has passed and you have seen about 10 minutes of relevant material. This takes about 15 minutes and it you don't want to go on the stage, you literally just sit at the table. The biggest discussion at our table were the character names as we thought we would have to memorize them since you only get a brief on stage introduction and nothing in the handout. 5. I won't bore you with anymore details about the actual show from this part forward but to tell you it is absolutely terrible. Yes everyone is a suspect and everyone has motive. However the way everyone is connected convinced me it was written by a 10 year old (no offense to 10 year olds). You get a few "clues" but they really don't mean much. The acting is horrible and looks forced and simply memorized. I have seen better from high school drama classes. 5. More time delays are used as the detective starts interviewing people in the audience as if they are a suspect. No really funny lines and no connections to the plot whatsoever. Some audience members play along and some don't want anything to do with it. Don't know the real purpose other than to fill time. Since none of that matters as they can't be the murderer and no clues are giving, it was just filler. 6. After the clues are laid out on a table, you get another 15 minutes to go up and examine them so you can guess who the murderer is. The clues are weak at best. 7. Then another stall happens when two of the actresses try to perform a comedy improv while the guesses are tallied. This was a complete train wreck. 8. Finally they come back and the detective reveals who done it. Instead of going through each of the suspects and acting like they did it but give them an alibi in the last second before getting to the real murderer, he just jumps straight to the person. However since one of the clues was a handwritten letter on the murdered person he goes on to say that he has done a handwriting analysis and identifies the killer. Well how in the world are we suppose to figure that out since it was never mentioned and never part of the clues. So in closing, I have been to several murder mysteries around the country. This is by far the worst one I have ever seen. Please don't waste your money. This production company needs to seriously improve the plot, their delivery and certainly their entertainment value. ZERO stars if I could... I 100% wish we would have researched reviews before purchasing tickets. This production company ROBS people! Event was located at 259 Granby Street, a venue that if at all used for small/private parties, but definitely not for a dinner mystery theatre. The show was set to begin at 6:30 P.M. but began roughly an hour later. They were not set up nor ready for the number of tickets sold. Meanwhile, we are watching more tables/chairs being brought in from the streets for others who had nowhere to sit. In turn, overly crowded and no place for a production of this sort. The food: Disgusting! Unseasoned, overcooked and underwhelming salmon, rice, broccoli, rolls, dollar tree crackers and fruit. Nothing was hot nor cold. Somewhat dangerous as well with the amount of people eating from this so-called buffet style meal. We also had to ask for salt/pepper to stomach our meals due to the fact we had not eaten prior to arrival. The cheesecake was disgusting. The drinks: NOTHING was included. All drinks had to be paid for separately. The bartender barely knew how to make simple cocktails. Not to mention the included gratuity of 6% no one knew of prior to purchase. We paid $40 for 2 cocktails and 1 beer; bottled water was also extra. I waited about 10 minutes AFTER my drinks were poured to pay. The hostess who also doubled as a bartender left the bar to tend to other issues. Evidently the male bartender didn't know how to work the charge machine. The women's bathroom sink did not work which also leads to question if the staff were able to wash their hands. I let the host (as stated previously) know who also doubled as a bartender and runner. I had to utilize the men's restroom until the sink was fixed. We were sat closest to the bathrooms and a trash can which was disgusting. Overall, the production was mediocre at best. The food was terrible, and the entire experience was overpriced and needs to be shut down. If anyone I know considers this event, I will 100% deter them. EVERYONE SHOULD BE REFUNDED! read more

This is the actual serving size .The best thing was the store bought dessert that came from Walmart or a food lion. We ended up grabbing burgers down the street. The acting was TRASH and the plot did not match the evidence that was offered. Our group kept waiting for it to get better but it never did. They never announced a motive. The so called comedian insert was got awful. I thought she was being horrible on purpose until the end when they announced that she was a "comedian" in the area, it was so quiet it was pathetic during her set. A group of us went here for St. Patricks Day. We thought we would try something new. There were eight of us. I called and made reservations. Was told that $40 per person hold would be put on my card and charged if any of the parties didn't attend. We all showed up after searching for the location. It is in a room in the "Grill" restaurant. We all manage to get there on time. In this little room were long tables crammed together. Dinner was buffet, which was fine, but every time you got up to get something, you had to squeeze out of your chair while bumping into the person behind you. The food was horrible. I think it was all premade. The show was funny at the end but in the beginning it really just drug on and on. Also, the actors were constantly interrupted by the kitchen staff and had to move out of their way while in the middle of their performance. They serve beer and wine, but they were out of most of what people from our table ordered. Service was pretty good. Actors were funny. Food and facility were terrible. If I could give this zero stars I would. There was no real show or investigation during this dinner. The acting was the worst I have ever seen, there was nonstop technical problems with the mics and half the show was about the audience looking at "evidence" that did not even make sense to the mystery. The food was absolutely horrific. It was buffet style with no organization so the line was very long and food was not warm at all. We were served raw, red chicken in our meal and when we brought it to the managers attention they denied it being raw, and said "what do you want? Something for free? Just eat the other food." The bartender initially agreed the chicken was raw then after speaking to the manager, said it was not raw despite it being literally red/pink. I think the biggest tell about the food was how much food was thrown away in the trash can from peoples plates. Not even 5 minutes into the show, the couple behind us got up and left, and we should have followed. This was complete waste of a Saturday night and of our money. So unless you enjoy horrible acting, a story line that doesn't make sense, no real show, cold/raw food and a management that gaslights you, stay away! read more

Funny and campy. Cheesy in that entertaining silly way. Don't expect your brain to do much, don't expect an awesome meal- but an entertaining dining experience. And there are prizes!! We also was apart of the murder mystery High School Reunion we could question each other because everyone was a suspect . The food could have been a little better but was served in three courses. But Had a blast! Very well scripted and they had prizes for the winners. I would have won if I wouldnt have let my hubby change my answer. The discounted ticket price was not explained very well at all. Food was not that good for the price of $80. Actors were entertaining but felt completely left out of the story. Seating was not next to my date, but there was no interaction amongst audience, so i didn't understand why they would not let us sit next to each other. I was not impressed I was very disappointed after reading all the review that I have read about this place and the mystery play. I have been to better restaurants better seating and lot better food than what I experienced here for the price. The place was way too crowded we couldn't see half of what was going on because there was 56 People crammed in a small space. We were seated in such a way that you had to stand up to see what was going on but yet the table rows were so close together you couldn't stand up. The acting wasn't all that great but yet the actors after the show talking to them one on one were very nice and pleasant people. It was terrible. We got to a restaurant called something about waffles. It was a run down diner/restaurant. They charged us $40 per person and then we were seated at a table. The show was supposed to start at 7:15 but it didn't get started on time. Food was horrible and you had to pay extra for beer and wine. We actually ended up leaving after the "appetizers" around 8 pm because the food was so bad and the acting wasn't very good either. We went to another restaurant on the ocean front and came back for our car around 9:30-9:45 and the mystery dinner was still going on!!! If I could give this place 0 stars I would! We walked into a run down diner/restaurant and were expected to pay $40 a person. They lead us into a room where they proceeded to pile us in like sardines. They claimed to have an amazing buffet but the food was plain and disgusting and by the time they dismissed my table to get food it was all gone. Then, after everyone made a plate they took away the food! If you want alcohol be prepared to pay extra for it even though you paid $40 for your food. And let's not even talk about the acting. I do not recommend that anyone have dinner at this "Murder Mystery Production". First off, the "buffet" they described on the website was very exaggerated. The one table had ribs, chicken tenders, fried fish, green beans, cole slaw, and roast beef. The worst part is is that the customers could not even go get food when they wanted; we were told to wait our turn to eat and some people had to wait up to 15 minutes to get a plate. Since we had to wait until the short intermission, most people did not have enough time to eat. I was also charged $16 extra. When I brought this to the head managers attention, he told me there was nothing he could do about it because he had already typed up the receipt! I had to go to the bar to get refills because my table was not assigned a waiter/waitress. And to top it all off, the acting was mediocre and was acted among the packed crowd. Anyone could say they killed the doctor and the audience actually had to listen to why. People were screaming their opinions and accusations during the entire play. It was absolutely the most MISERABLE dinner I have had in Virginia Beach. P.S- I recommend Captain George's in Williamsburg. The decor was extremely beautiful, the buffet was almost endless with probably any seafood you could think of, the price was less than expected, and the service was spectacular! We attended the "Get a Clue Murder Mystery" the location was in the waffle restaurant near Virginia beach. I guess they have seasonal locations. The acting and show was pretty decent but I will say for $40 a person I was very disappointed. The food was not just bad it was horrendous! The food was all instant and flavorless. The mashed potatoes tasted like dirt and the roast beef was without any seasoning whatsoever. The green beans were boiled in some kind of tomato sauce. There was chicken and fish. The chicken was all bone and no chicken. The fish again without any flavor. The rolls were dry and hard. The food was not just sub par but almost inedible. We were very disappointed. That being said the acting and the show was pretty good. So if you are ok with paying $40 for a short show then go right ahead. read more

We love this place! We have attended five shows with Maverick productions and each of them has been a blast. We love the audience interaction and the fact that they don't try to pass their waitstaff off as actors. The food is always fresh and good and there something there for everyone. Don't know what the other complaints were about but we always leave with a smile on our faces. These actors are amazing! To celebrate our anniversary my husband and I thought that it would be nice to attend a mystery dinner theater. I made reservations with this company and was excited. When we arrived I thought that perhaps we had the wrong location because it was Nothing like I expected. The audience was all crammed in together and there was truly no room to get around. Yes, you could get up and revisit the buffet, but every time that I got up the entire table had to get up with me because there was no room to get out otherwise. The food was only so.. so and the show was a bit pathetic. The price value was truly not there. Funny, funny, funny. We have been to a couple of shows and really like how the audience gets pulled into the show. The cast even singled out my husband as a suspect which was way fun. While some people (we did) got into solving the mystery and getting a prize (just missed it), others just watched and laughe. You have to get up and ask your own questions of the cast if you want to win a prize. The food is the downside. Pleniful but not that much variety. Glad they do appetizers and salad, then dinner and then dessert in three courses. I wish they served chicken fingers instead of the wings. That would be better for the kids. Someone at our table was vegetarian and had set up ahead of time not to go through the buffet for the main course. They got a terrific looking veggie pasta dish. May do that next time we go. Considering this is the only murder mystery dinner venue I could find in VB, this really wasn't that bad. My husband and I treated my parents, my brother, and my 8 y.o. son, and we had a blast. The food definitely wouldn't make me want to come back on its own, and the story and characters were a bit cheesy, but it was a unique experience. Horrible, if I could zero stars I would. We paid $40 a person for a buffet meal and a good show. We got chopped lettuce with tomatoes, meatballs and bread. The intro to the show was a mess people couldn't tell if they were unruly patrons or part of the show. We were packed in a small room like sardines and somehow expected to move around and ask each other questions to find the killer. They also have a disclaimer on this clue sheet after you've paid noting sounds of gunfire and graphic scenes so anyone with PTSD, anxiety or a weak stomach has spent money for a show they can't enjoy. That should have been listed on their site or noted when you make a reservation. We didn't even stay for the whole for that exact reason. The idea of the show is solid but the execution was subpar at best. The Williamsburg Dinner Theatre's show was superb, I'll wait until they're back in season and go there. A very fun idea for an evening out, but the execution was underwhelming. Due to the show taking place in a small room with a lot of guests and only a few actors, the engagement with the scenario was minimal. What little interaction we did have with the members of the show seemed very forced, they would come by and ask "do you have any questions for me?" and then move along to the next table. The attempts to implicate anyone other than the obvious actors in the mystery seemed inauthentic and poorly executed so there was never any reason to question or interact with any of the other guests. While the show is advertised as improv, the actors and the performances seemed uncoordinated and hard to follow. The actor that managed to grab the attention of everyone in the room also happened to be the one that they killed in the first five minutes. The wait staff and actors were very friendly, but for adults spending approx $60/per person for dinner/show and 2 drinks I would hold off for now. read more
