McDogan Construction - Stain fence

McDogan Construction

They made sure it was done timely and correctly and was flexible on scheduling. I wouldn't hesitate to hire them again. Their pricing is very fair too.

As a female homeowner, I sometimes run into challenges with companies not taking me seriously or overcharging me for services. Dogan did not give me that impression at all, and I can say I am happy with the work that him and his team did! Dogan and his team were kind and helpful. He did not try to upsell me for the work he was performing, and he was very diligent with ensuring that I was comfortable with the work that was being done. They took their time in properly making the repairs around my home. I asked him to work on multiple projects around my home, such as: 1. Exterior wood replacement, repair and paint (multiple areas) 2. Backyard gate repair 3. Garage weather stripping I felt that he was incredibly reasonable for the work him and his team performed, and he was also incredibly responsive to my messages (which I immensely appreciated). He was communicative, which is something that is super important to me, and he seemed to genuinely want to help me. I can provide an updated review to determine if the work his team performed lasts, but I am currently happy with his work, and would definitely reach out to Dogan and his team again for any other future projects! Thank you so much, Dogan!

We hired Firehouse for a huge project of building a stone retaining wall, then back-filling inside…read morethe wall to bring our hillside lot much closer to level, then installing a BOB privacy fence mounted in the stone, and a custom-designed and fabricated sliding driveway gate, at our home in Hillcrest Shores. Their design and workmanship is excellent, they use top shelf materials, and, thanks in part, I'm sure, to getting on their calendar early in the season, the work was completed in a very timely manner, with no appreciable delays caused by anything but the weather. We got three estimates for the project, and for the first time in our lives, gave the job to the HIGHEST bidder. That is because, in addition to admiring their work elsewhere around Rockwall, owner Zach Simons is the sole point of contact for the estimate process on the entire project. His competitors were like, "Yeah, we can estimate the wood today, then we'll send a stone guy next week, and a gate-design guy the week after that." (Slight exaggeration there.) We were much more comfortable working with a single source for the whole project. Yes, Firehouse charges a premium, but we got what we paid for. Highly recommended.

Shoddy workmanship, lies, code violations. Zach will take your money and run!…read more Zach Simons of Firehouse Fence builds shoddy fences that fall over within months, refuses to stand behind his work, uses poor materials (including fake "cedar"), refuses to repair, and refuses to engage in any meaningful conversations with his clients. His fences are not compliant with city code. Oh, and when you annoy him just enough, he will send his lawyer after you to try and shut you up! Zach Simons, owner of Firehouse Fence, built about 500 feet of "cedar" fence in March 2026. By July 2026, the fence was falling down and the gates did not work. He refused for weeks to come look at the fence to discuss repairs. When I finally got him out to look at the fence, he said "this was not warranty work," and blamed the dry weather. He proposed placing single 2x4 braces into the public alleyway easement to prop the fence up at $350/brace. I tried to call him repeatedly to get him to speak with me about a more permanent repair and offering to pay him. He would never talk to me. Instead, he had his lawyer, Curt Covington, send me a letter demanding I stop "spam" calling and making a final non-negotiable offer to perform the temporary bracing repair. Zach does not stand behind his work or that of the subcontractors who he will send in his place. Zach explained to me that he gives his customers large restaurant gift cards in exchange for writing good reviews immediately after jobs are finished. This may be a violation of FTC regulations, but explains his many good reviews. Zach obtained a permit at my request, but he never closed it or obtained the final inspection. I learned that much of the work was out of code. We discovered many of the posts for my 6-7 foot fence were set 18-21 inches deep, gates were built incorrectly, the wood used was a cheap imported substitute for cedar, and one corner post was even missing entirely, among other defects. Zach is not ever around when work is happening. He did show up to collect a check once and had an angry outburst, trespassing in my neighbor's back yard and instigating a dispute with a subcontractor and my neighbor when he suspected one of his subcontractors was working on a different job in my neighborhood without him. Firehouse Fence is really bad at what they do. Zach prefers to pay lawyers over speaking with customers on the phone.

There are fencing companies and then there is Blackwell…read more A fencing company puts up a fence and walks away. Then later you discover the fence is leaning because the posts are not deep enough, boards are warping because staggered improperly, corners were not reinforced and, a fan favorite, re- nailing decorative trim every few months. Blackwell installs a warranty fortress and whose goal is for their customer to have a fence last a lifetime. I found Blackwell through a friend who admired their work (everyone in her neighbor has a Blackwell fence) so when her fence was damaged in a hailstorm she called them. The toughest critic was her husband whose family built custom homes. He was impressed by the depth of the posts, quality of the product, and the overall installation. I have always wanted a beautiful fence so in early 2025 I was pricing fence replacement (privacy, 8ft) with quotes for a basic fence coming in at 10k +/- a few hundred dollars. One company wanted to use the existing posts and all companies charged for the extras (corbels, wrought iron insets). My friend told me to reach out to Blackwell and see what they come back with which ended up at the same cost but included those extras. My only complaint was the lack of a sign on the fence causing a lot of neighbor foot traffic asking, "who built the fortress". You can tell they know their business by the quality of their product. 6 months - one of my gates would not close. I called the team and they were there within a week and while on site they found two other issues - fixed everything - at no charge. Their warranty is as solid as their fence. 1 year later -it was time to replace the shared fence line not done the previous year and I added an arbor. Again, easy quote, installation and the neighbor was so thrilled she replaced all her fence (privacy and shadow box) and a 6y old arbor that already had issues, adding a bench around her tree, and list goes on. Now the neighbor across the alley is reaching out ...
