Wowww... "When in…read moreMaui..." We recently visited the Hawaiian islands via the Norwegian Pride of America cruise ship, and one of the cruise ports was Kahului, on the island of Maui. While there are several shops and things close to the cruise port, we rented a car at the Kahului airport, maybe a ten minute Uber away. And, as a Maui visitor, we wanted to try local seafood. We found Tails Up Maui in Wailuku on Yelp, and it looked perfect! (It's about ten minutes from town) From the outside, Tails Up Maui doesn't look like much. Step inside, and be greeted by a cute and cozy counter restaurant with about 8-10 tables - still pretty unassuming.... Then, we ordered and got our food- Tails Up Maui has a local catch of the day, and then incorporates it in their entire menu: fish tacos, poke nachos, fish and chips, poke bowls, even a katsu roll. All was very, very good, but our favorite was easily the poke nachos. Definitely recommend checking out Tails Up Maui if you're looking for some local Hawaiian seafood.

They genuinely create such a welcoming, social atmosphere and make everyone feel included. Huge shoutout to Emily, Toby, and Kate, who were especially amazing and made my stay unforgettable--but honestly the entire team contributes to the magic here. Whether you're traveling solo or with friends, it's the kind of place where you instantly meet people and end up making memories you didn't even plan for. They have a quiet time policy for later hours, which I personally don't feel was enforced. I also heard quite a bit of noise at night, including some things that probably should've stayed behind closed windows. They do offer tours at the front desk where you can sign up, which is a nice touch. I didn't personally try any. Overall, it's a good fit if you're looking for a social, party style hostel, but if you prefer something a bit cleaner or more classy, it might not be the best option.

I took my Little Sister from Big Brother Big Sister for an art class to celebrate our one year…read moreanniversary of being together and we loved every minute! We changed into clean socks, sanitized our hands and walked into a pink room full of cute kitties who were happy to snuggle up with us, or play with toy feathers and balls, and be stroked under the chin while they relaxed. So entertaining, especially when we started the art class and the kitties decided to start stealing erasers, chew pencils while you were drawing, and walk across your paintings :) It certainly made water colouring exciting! The class is for all ages, and the teacher helps you draw a cute cat step by step, then you paint it whatever colour you want. There were six of us this time, 10 my previous visit. Plus they do kitty movie nights, cat yoga, cat macrame, as well as art cat classes. Or you can just visit and hang out and relax with the kitties. Something for everyone. The cats were very friendly and playful, and they have an amazing room to roam around in, full of toys, beds, and cat climbing areas. They are totally spoiled and are all up for adoption. There were 2 cats who had already been adopted waiting for their flight out, and so far this year 950 cats have been adopted!! An amazing feat, all due to the dedication of the staff at the Cat Cafe and their flight volunteers. (You can volunteer too, go to their website and sign up to take a cat onboard with you to a mainland destination). It is really worth a visit, with easy mall parking, an elevator if you need accessible entry, online booking, and if you forget clean socks they sell them there too. Go, enjoy, raise fund for the kitties with your entry fee and volunteer to carry a cat, or even adopt one :)

On Maui it is not easy finding a good groomer as i have had several over the years and they move or go out of business and I don't like taking my dogs to the big box stores. I prefer to give my money to smaller local business. Every time I go these guys are friendly and always in a cheerful mood and they take good care of my fur baby. I am definitely going to take my baby back for other services. I usually wash him but have considered taking him for a bath or a flea bath as I don't always have as much time on my hands. I highly recommend these folks because they do a good job and are not too expensive. The only thing is I wish they were closer as I live in haiku and it is a drive as they are located in Happy Valley.
