Hmmmmmm how to rate.... Well, afterward, my husband and I said it was "mid." So I think 3 stars is fair. Our only other experience with a luau was the Old Lahaina Luau, approx 10 years ago on our honeymoon, so I am using that for comparison. At that time, everyone told us the OLL was the best in Maui. In comparison, the Maui Nui Luau doesn't quite hold up. First impressions are everything, and the plastic tables and chairs don't give off an upscale "you're in for a treat" vibe. The buffet food was completely decent. I enjoyed everything on my plate. It wasn't spectacular, but I thought it was good. If you have picky children, they might not want anything other than bread rolls and dessert. It's nice having an open bar, but if you're not a drinker, it might be hard to get your money's worth at any luau. Entertainment was cool--before the dancing starts, there's a few activities mainly geared towards kids (temp tattoos, stamped bookmarks, etc) as well as some vendors set up on the sides. During the show, the MC was good without being over the top. The fire dancers were obviously the best. Being able to see fire dancers was the only reason we chose not to go to OLL again, because I thought our son would enjoy this part the best. All-in-all, if you have a picky eater, non-drinkers, or aren't quite sure if you'd get the value of a luau, you could skip this one (and probably skip any other one, too). While still on my Hawaii Maui vacation, I had to take the time to write this 5 star review. Luau - Let's start with what it means and is. A luau is a Hawaiian tradition, where people gather to celebrate and eat with entertainment. This also means in our own understanding like a "wedding", "baby shower", and/or "birthday". Having been to a dozen of luau's, I feel a compelling need to review from a perspective of one who appreciates the arts and culture. Let's start off with price - This is by far a VERY affordable luau. You're not just paying for a Buffett but the entertainment is included. They literally entertain you for 3 full hours. If you're bougie and hate waiting don't be a cheapskate and pay extra to be preferred. If you can't afford to pay extra for preferred then get there early, be the first in line to get seated at the tables behind the preferred seating. Is there a wait, yes, if you're not preferred you wait. That is typically how preferred and VIP works. I paid for the preferred because I don't like to wait and yes, I like to be front and center and I like the perks of being "first" so I paid for the extra service, well worth every extra penny. Staff: 5 stars EVERYONE was extremely nice! IFKYK: If I had read the reviews first I might not have paid to come to the show, these reviews are a mix of good/bad but more bad than good and I'll have to admit Yelpies on this one got it WRONG! Let's just say, more people are inclined to write a negative review before a positive review. It's almost as if the "negative crew" left their sentiments. But honestly it's fairly priced, weather is the weather, it's Hawaii, plan to be hot, in rain, they perform rain or shine. Is it crowded, YES, it's just not going to be just you and your 3 kids and wife. Think of church, if you go, a big ole crowded church! Are there long lines? Yes, but they go extremely fast. Can you experience a bigger show elsewhere? Absolutely you can, if you're going to Oahu and can visit the cultural center, then do that experience or even on the Big Island but for Maui, this is a fantastic experience! Let's get into it! It's a Buffet and given its Hawaiian theme this foodie gives it a solid 10! Food was full of flavor, a little cold but we had windy rainy weather which is no fault to them. Overall, a Maui vacation is going to cost 10k easy (that's cheap)! Add 2-3k for entertainment while you're here and enjoy this beautiful experience! The luau was a fun experience, with activities, a large buffet, and quite a stage show. There was singing and dancing and audience participation. My focus with reviews is restaurants so I will speak to the buffet. The process for getting us all fed was organized, with the premium seating guests first, followed by the rest of us one table at a time. There was plenty of food, during our turn there were no empty containers. As this is an all you care to eat, I was one that returned for seconds, still plenty of food. At the end of the buffet were the meats, and I thought those could have been better, the Teriyaki Steak pieces were overcooked and tough. All of the items I tried leading up to the meats were fine, I particularly liked the cucumber salad and the fresh pineapple, both had bold flavors and that's what I like. I skipped trying the Poi, having learned that is an acquired taste. Don't just go for the food, go for the fun, and we had a great time laughing and playing along. read more

Solid luau option. Went with a group of 14 and they were able to seat 7 of us at the same table. The other people in our group were split into two other tables. Glad we got the VIP seats because they were close to the stage. Buffet style food is decent but you don't really go to this luau for the food or u limited drinks. The performances were great and the MC is very engaging. It's a beautiful location with a sunset view. During the show they have people light the torch on top of Black Rock and one of them jump into the ocean. Kids enjoyed the rolls with butter and ate some of the steak, dish, and the Kailua pulled pork. Enjoyed the Hawaiian pineapple and there were 3 different types of dessert on offer. The picture they took after passing out leis was 20 a photo but they turned out nicely. Show was great and we really enjoyed the fire dancers. I'm sorry to say it but I did not enjoy this . My friend and I purchased standard tickets on Viator for a Wednesday evening show. It was stated that doors opened at 5 (well, more like show seating began at 5) for the program to begin at 5:30. We arrived at 4:45 and were a good ways towards the back of the line already which meant standing in the sun for a bit. The company did email in advance to advise about this and encourage folks to wear sunscreen. Those who purchase preferred tickets (for a decent chunk of change more than the $198 price tag for standard) get seated first so seating for us regular folks began closer to 5:15pm it seemed. Part of what slows down the entry process is that there are photographers taking photos of every group. Later in the evening the staff starts walking around with the photos advising that they can be purchased for $20. The program didn't start in earnest until 7pm, after the sun had set. I brought a light jacket but I was still quite chilly. There are some vendors set up selling things market style and they also had tattoo and flower stations set up. The food was surprisingly good, especially to have been produced for such a large crowd (seemed like there were 300 or so of us). I would have gone for seconds but got full so that was at least worth it. There was also an open bar but the one pina colada I had was, unsurprisingly, very watered down. By the time the program began, I was sleepy and uninterested. It didn't help that we couldn't see much and the performers (who all deserve 5 stars) were often sitting or kneeling. The tidbits I did pick up about Hawaii's history and culture were appreciated but I wish I chose another luau experience overall. The Lia here is on the NW side of Maui and is in a beautiful location. The weather that night was beautiful and it was out by the ocean, so the sunset was memorable. We had purchased a preferred ticket, so we were swatted first. We were given an Hawaiian island lei that was beautiful. The music and the show was nice. The musicians and dancers were incredible. The MC was friendly and professional but a little too rehearsed. The food was served buffet style with an incredible selection. There was pork, fish, native macaroni dish, great salads and other sides that were well worth the ticket. The show went into the evening and was also worth the price of the ticket. read more

Go for the incredible artists! This was our first luau since we attended the Grand Wailea luau 15 years ago. The musicians, narrator and performers were fabulous and gave it all they got! They were skilled, powerful and engaging. My only regret was that I wasn't in the front row and that they didn't perform longer. The evening starts with a gorgeous flower lei and what felt like unlimited drinks - although fairly light on the alcohol. If you need more you can buy it at the bar. Guests definitely will not leave hungry - there is lots of delicious food and 3 different desserts. We loved the location on the water with the sunset, the way they started the show ceremonially with a man delivering a fire torch to Black Rock and how amazing the dancers were. I will start with entertainment quality, at 4:45pm, over 600 people were waiting in line to enter. You get your lai, and then stand in line, first come first sat closest to stage. We were near the back, because I did not estimate this Luau to have 600-700 people. They take the family picture, and wait , that will cost you..... later on. And then you sit and wait, and there are activities.... LOL, sure there are. You can get a tattoo, get a flower in your hair, or visit the few merchants, and buy more, spend more..... Ok, to continue show quality, it's the worst Luau I have ever been to. By far..... 6 total actors, 3 female and 3 male, change Polynesian outfits, and between each act the master of ceremonies either tells jokes or a short story. The dancing did not entertain, the whole family was bored, as well as the other family at our table. Myself and the other Dad looked at each other, and were like, this is $200 per person, are we at wrong show. Sound system, total of two speakers in the front by the stage. The sound at this event was amateur. Ten people to a table, over 70 tables..... the sound felt drowned out by conversations, as people were bored. Wait..... waited 30 minutes in Lua line to be sat, and waited 30 minutes in the buffet line. Food quality... buffet style, it's poor quality seriously, our Hawaiian friends laughed at us. They asked us why we chose the Sheraton Luau? Food was same quality as an Asian all you can eat buffet. Disgusting, I did not partake. Deserts, I'm a spoiled European, but the United States has lost the ability to find or taste quality food. Cheap sheet cakes with frosting and jello on top. This show is an embarrassment to the Hawaiian and Polynesian people. The hotel made over $1 million on one show, if average price is $200, 700 guests, photo sales, cost for vendor booths, and VIP seat sales. After they pay the 30-40% booking commissions, food cosrs..... the Hotel made a huge profit. Which is great, but you gave a shit show fuckers. Therefore why not invest into it this show.... Do not go to this show. Alcoholic beverages, don't laugh. It's gross and it's just pitchers with punch and pina colada. But they are not ice blended, just juice in a cup.... All of us in the pigeon section, were pissed. After spending over $1000 on this show, we needed alcohol to drown our bad decision away. Do not do the Sheraton Luau. I literally suggest to skip walk the beach, eat at Dukes, and chill at a beach bar. Do that for $1000, and it will be a better time than this show. read more

I went to the Maui Nui luau during my first visit to Maui in September and I had the best time! There was a lot of people there-I think every table was full- but it was very well organized. We paid for preferred seating and I think it was worth it-we got to sit first and eat ahead of everyone else. The food was really delicious and they had a good variery- my faves were the steak and the mac salad. And the show was *amazing*- they had Hawaiian music before the main show, hula dancers, Hawaiian dancing and rituals, fire performers. I was entertained the entire night. Note: You are out in the hot sun, so prepare accordingly. I highly recommend this luau and I think it was worth every penny! read more

It was a great family evening with what I would consider traditional luau entertainment that was fun and engaging to the audience. On June 15, 2025 I attended Luau and was at table $29 I ended up leaving early with my wife and two kids and here is why. The tables were too close together. Then our table had an issue with ants. A hotel member came by to spray some alcohol but it didn't work. Ants were still crawling on the plastic chairs we were sitting on. The dinner is buffet style. You have to serve everything yourself which is no problem except didn't seem very sanitary. The shovel to get ice was inside the bucket and sinking into the melted ice and your hand would touch rest of ice while grabbing it. Then I saw a hotel member dip his entire cup into the back up water dispenser to grab a drink of water to himself. So he dipped his entire hand and cup in water. I didn't stay long enough to find out if they ended up using that water dispenser but it was the last straw for me. It felt dirty at that point and didn't want to stay to find out how the food situation was going to be. The alcoholic beverage was self serve as well. We only grabbed two drinks before they ran out of the pre made drinks. The pre made drinks were watered down from the melted ice. To get more drinks after that we had to stand in long line to get drinks from 2 bartenders that were tending to all these people. After assessing the situation we left after two drinks. Knowing we paid nearly $600 for a family of 4, we decided to leave within 30 minutes of event starting. We paid $600 to get two drinks for my wife and I, then my kids two small cups of punch, and bought two souvenirs from the local artist. We let the staff know we were leaving because something came up because we knew they would not even offer to refund money due to the policy. They just said they would note the account. Was not surprised that they didn't offer to give partial or full refund. That is customer service these days. I wasn't going to risk a bad experience for my family and possibly get sick from the unsanitary conditions of the buffet/drink setup. I would never go back to this event. read more

One of the more reasonably priced luaus on the island. Parking at the Sheraton is $2 after getting your ticket validated. The buffet has a large amount of food choices, plus you can go back if you want. Everything tasted good which surprised me. Mai Tais, punch, tea, etc. are plentiful and complementary. The host/singer was very entertaining, as was the rest of the troupe. However, there was one female dancer that was constantly out of sync. The male dancers, however, were great. This was my first luau and it was so wonderful. It was recommended to me by a friend so I thought we should go. I paid for the general seating and it was fine. The preferred seating gets first dibs and access to front rows. However, every seat has a great view so it doesn't matter. As you wait in line, the servers come out and offer complimentary drinks. Then come the leis and then the pictures. Before the event starts there are some small group activities that people can participate in to learn a little more about the culture. Then comes dinner! Pulled pork, fried rice, noodles, fish, chicken, salad, bread, yams, etc etc! This all you can eat buffet was really good!!! Desserts are also offered. Entertainment was fabulous, honestly!! I also loved the structure of the show and how they kept it going. My biggest complaint was the food - I know it's hard preparing a meal for this many people but there were very few items that were solidly good, and I'll literally eat almost anything. Drinks were watered down so I stuck with wine. My kids enjoyed it but all they ate was chicken and Hawaiian rolls! I do recommend paying extra for the priority seating, that was worth it. I recently visited the Maui Nui Luau at the Sheraton Black Rock and have to say, it was a super disappointment considering the high price tag ($200-250 per person depending on seating selection). I have visited Maui several times over the last decade and have attended a number of luaus in the same general area. Let's start with the process: a looooong line of waiting in the heat to get in if you don't pay the extra for preferred seating. Then, more lines (though they went pretty quick) for the open bar. Despite sounding great, the open bar is very limited on spirits available and unless you have very plain taste, you won't be satisfied (and did I mention the heat? Blazing hot sunset to go with the drink you really didn't want but ending up ordering to 'get your $$ worth'). After about an hour or so of that torture, they'll slowly release tables to get food. The variety was ok at best and the taste was the same. Absolutely nothing noteworthy there. Then, dessert...same as dinner but even fewer options. Lastly, the show. By the time the sun goes down and a breeze kicks in, you are feeling a little better (if you didn't eat or drink too much). The fire dancers were very good but not much else stood out. Overall, save your money and go somewhere else. Before the 2023 fire, The Feast at LeLe was the absolute best (and half the price - seriously). I can't wait until they rebuild. So sad. read more

What a great experience overall. The food was excellent and so was the performers. The drinks were plentiful if you were drinking alcohol but only a few choices for non-alcoholic drinks. The seating was outdoors in the hot heat but as the night progressed it got cooler. The setting is at a hotel that charges for parking and there is no other parking to be had unless you sell one of your kidneys. However the valet is only $5 if you validate your ticket at Luau. We were late in booking a luau which is a must for us whenever we're in Hawaii. Our usual luau was fully booked, and Maui Nui had a lot of availablity. We were really disappointed in the quality of the set up and food here. The luau is located in the middle of a strip of hotels. Plastic tables and chairs were scattered out far beyond the stage. There was no real height difference between the tables and stage, meaning it was almost impossible to see anything. Due to COVID protocol, this is no longer a buffet and you are served meals. It made it hard to get the items you wanted more of and felt wasteful when we were served things we did not want. We were also disappointed that the lei was not real flowers or even fake flowers, but rather made of faux nuts. We ended up leaving early because we weren't able to see anything at all. Food was good, the location is right along the beach, the staff was friendly, and the show was fun. This Luao was also significantly cheaper per person than some other ones in the area (which is partially why we chose it), although still expensive for a dinner and show. I noticed some of the other reviews were rather negative... I don't think it was bad at all besides spending a lot of money for just a single dinner and show-- but going to a Luao is part of the Hawaiian experience, and you've got to do it at least once. $175 ticket per person all for my family to be 12 rows back. This thing was crammed to the gills- unbelievable how little space there was for people to observe the show. The performers all did a fine job, the food was good, but this show was ruined by the show runners trying to milk every last square inch and fill it with guests who cannot even see the performance. Not really suitable for children- no participation of the kids, even if we were close enough to access the stage, the dozens of kids were left bored and unable to participate. this was my family's first ever luau and it was such a letdown. the luaua started off okay. the check in was easy and fast and the lei was pretty, but things went downhill after that. the set up of the luau and the quality of the food was terrible. the plastic chairs and seats were scattered on the grass and there was no height difference between tables so it was impossible to see anything if you weren't seated in the front tables. once the first half of the show ended, we were able to get our food. the tables were called in numerical order (usually 2-3 tables at a time) and had to walk to the buffet area. from afar the food looks good and smells good, however, after trying it was just disappointing. the only decent food was the fern salad with the papaya dressing, the cod, and the pineapple with ling hing mui. the rest of the food was bland and needed more seasoning. my family and i ended up leaving early because of how disappointing the luau was. the money spent was not worth it at all. read more

My first luau. Total disappointment. For hundreds of guests, they have one water station. This was perpetually out of water. For $200 per person and all beverages included, did not realize we would need to supply our own water. Also no shade, which made it worse. Make sure to wear hats. Amazing show! I was having a hard time picking which luau to go to but I'm soooooooo glad I went here. I've been to luau's previously but this was the first time I was taking my kids to Maui and wanted to give them a great experience. This exceeded ALL expectations, easily. We pony'd up for the premier seats and we're glad we did. Up front seating, first to eat, first to get in (the loooong line). Sure it was hot as the surface of the sun at the beginning but the show allows and encourages you to walk around and play games, get temp tatoos, check out local vendors and get drinks. We didn't want to sit because it was miserably hot so we hung out in the shade. Food was on point--I had low expectations having gone to luau's in the past but this one had all options and we were pleasantly surprised and happy with the quality of the food. We are all picky eaters so it's a lot to honestly say that we actually enjoyed the main meal. The desserts left much to be desired to be honest but we ate so much of our main meal it didn't matter much. The show was a 10+. Interactive, fun, well choreographed, and a fantastic ending. My kids were mesmerized by the fire knife dance and couldn't believe the things they were watching. Lastly, we saw a competing luau that is held at the Westin Resort and couldn't believe how poor that venue was in comparison. That one was held, literally, in the parking lot and narrow hallway of the hotel. Compare that to the Sheraton where you have an entire lawn on the water, beautiful sunset, and wide open spread--I can't believe anyone would ever choose the Westin luau. Thinking we had to settle, but we actually had the best Luau ever! We waited too long to reserve the top favorites of the Maui luau circuit (according to the reviews and travel rankings), so we booked the standard seating of the Sheraton Luau through a local travel group. We had previously attended the Sheraton Luau, let's just say 'several' years ago; and we tried the Feist at Lei Lei too in the past. So we were glad to see positive reviews about the Sheraton and we were excited to have a fun night ahead. Either way, we showed up early to help our party of 6 get a good seat for the standard seating. Remember to bring your parking voucher to the ticket table, for credit ($5 valet and $2 lot with credit). Standard seating is first come and first seated and buffeted. Haha. Everyone stands in a line across the lawn sidewalk. One thing about the Sheraton Luau to remember is that it occurs in the middle of the grass lawn between the hotel and the beach. Very little coverage from the sun. I would suggest bringing in a small umbrella (as we did) to keep the sun and heat from your party while you await dinner and the show. They are very prompt about the line starting on time and being seated quickly. The ticket lady wasn't very friendly, but the rest of the staff was awesome. The male and female bartenders and dance crews were friendly, welcoming and appeared to have fun all night. We were joking with several of them and were impressed how hard they were working for our entertainment. As for drinks, they offered pina colada's, Mai Tai's, an open bar with lower end hard liquors as soon as you get through the gate. The drinks were not that strong, except at the open bar where tipping helped the pours. But overall, with temperatures at 85+ degrees, ice cold water was the best choice. Back to the Luau, the food was incredible, from simple salads, breads, and desserts to the Ahi Poke, Shredded Pork ('cooked in the pit' and part of the show), Fresh Fish, and Chicken, Steak. Honestly, the food was very fresh and tasted great. The lines and process moved quickly. The entire night was well executed and fun. The show included dancing, fire shows, singing, and audience participation. It was a great show. I do have to say that we were lucky to have 4 other great people join us to complete our table of ten in the 3rd row. Bob, Suzanne, from Arizona and Bill and Brittany from California. Bill was popping the question the next day so hopefully things went well! In a nutshell, Sheraton Luau was great for us this year and I would recommend it. Dress casually but comfortably, Valet Park at the Hotel, bring your parking stub for credit, get their early to get a better table in the front rows (rows 1-2 are priority only), bring a little umbrella, talk to others at your table, have someone take your picture (their pictures are too expensive), and then have a great night. The show is really good. The host and the dancers were remarkable. Your money is really for the show. All four stars are for the show. The food is really not that good. The quality is about the level of panda express and the food gets cold really fast. You got fried rice, fried noodle, bbq chicken, some fish ( really fishy) and kulua pork. The food may worth $10 or $15 dollar. They have an open bar but the mai tai and pina colds is really not that good. Stick with wine on the safe side. Dress warm and being a thick jacket. It gets cold really fast The second half of the show after the dessert is where it gets really good. I saw some people left early because of bad food and cold weather. Our table and looked like all the other tables were covered in Gnats. It was very annoying as they kept landing on us and our tables...i don't know if that is normal since this was my first one. This was a great experience due to our table group. You sit with random people but we had in my opinion the BEST GROUP. Its like we instantly all became friends...so it was like we were enjoying this whole experience as friends and not strangers. We looked around at all the other tables and their groups looked bored and not very talkative. We were the "fun" table. Food was above average when it comes to buffet style. Price is on par with other luaus on Maui, but expensive nonetheless. At $125 per person, the expectations are high. This was an OK event in a nice venue near the ocean. Interesting to watch the lighting of the torches at black rock along with the narration and cliff dive. We saw a few whales breaching off shore as well. All staff were pleasant and attentive. The food wasn't bad. Not as many options as the Disney luau on Oahu, and no options for kids. Similarly, the show was ok, and had an awesome fire dancer, but didn't compare to Disney. Felt as if they do this every night, and it was becoming routine. Deserts were pretty bad. There is a $45 option for just the cocktail reception and show. This may be a better value. read more

Recently attended the Maui Nui Luau in late June 2023. My significant other and I thoroughly enjoyed this event. The check-in process was very easy (the long line moved fast) and we were seated in a table that was close to the front (you don't have a choice in this, it's random). The drinks were bottomless and had plenty of options. There were two different types of alcoholic drinks and plenty of water, coffee, juice. The food was delicious and consisted of traditional Hawaiian cuisine. The plates are big enough to get just about everything from the buffet on your first time through. The entertainment (Story and dancing) were done well. This consisted of a storyline that walked through the history of Hawaii + associated dancing. The entire event was about 3 hours and ended around 8:30. The only downside is that you have to leave the venue every time to go to the bathroom, so plan accordingly. Worse $415 (tickets for two people) I have spent in quite some time. I am staying at the Sheraton and booked this with their concierge before my arrival. I am attaching a picture of the view (or lack of view) my table had. By the time my table was allowed to get food from the buffet, some dishes were empty and the guy in front of my was bragging about this being his second serving. My table wasn't even at the end so it could have been worse I guess. I did ask the concierge if the sitting was going to be okay and she said it would be just fine since I called ahead. I can't comment on the performance since I literally could not see it. read more

You can stand just behind the bush hedge surrounding the area or sit up near the Sheraton bar and watch it for free, why would you pay $180 for this experience? read more

This was a great luau! Spring for the premium seating if you can. It was only a little bit more money and well worth it. We got there about 15-20 minutes before the gates opened and we got a table right up front with an unobstructed view of the stage. It was well worth it. Our table was also one of the firsts to get called for the dinner line. While you are in line they hand you leis, drinks, and take your group's photo. It didn't feel like a long time of waiting. Once everyone was seated the host comes on stage and greets everyone. I really liked how they gave the history of Maui and island rituals. There were tables set-up around the venue with activities. You could get a temporary tattoo, play a couple of games on the grass, check out handmade arts and crafts, view your photos and a few other activities. It was great for the kids because it got them up and about instead of sitting the whole time. It was very family friendly. After the unveiling of the pig we were invited to grab our dinners. There were three or four buffet lines set-up and each line had the same items so it made for a fairly quick trip to get food. There were lot of different food options and the food was good too. After dinner and dessert the luau began. The dancers were great. The host continued to offer history tidbits of Maui in between sets. The pace of the show was just right. It held our interest.
