It has always been a dream of mine to practice real estate in the state of Hawaii. So, in 2019 I…read moredecided to look into licensing requirements and took steps to take the state exam. I had already received an equivalency for my time practicing in another state. But I still had to take a Hawaii focused exam which was shorter and required a higher pass rate. The entire process took me two years, mix in a pandemic and life - I passed the test two days before my equivalency exemption expired. Fortunately, I used Rick's method and took the 200 question exam as a way to prepare. The book is written with the exam in mind, so if you take the exam and cross reference the 'principles' booklet for the ones you got wrong in the practice exam you can create a pretty effective study guide. I recommend his study materials and wish you the best of luck in your studying. Mahalo!

I recently completed the Real Estate Salesperson course with Carol Ball…read more I felt the course to be most educational, functional, and efficient. And, believe it or not, Fun. I highly recommend this school and highly recommend taking the in-person class. Whether you're new to the industry of real estate, real estate sales, property management, or timeshare, or an experienced individual, this course really prepares you for a career in RE in the Hawaiian Islands. You're provided with multiple books including: the PSI test-book, a Real Estate universal text, and Carol Ball's Hawaii Real Estate supplemental text, along with daily copies of the power point slides, daily quizzes and their answers, and an interactive platform to enhance a classroom learning experience. I supplemented the class, books, and coursework with the textbook's online application. It made the driving from Napili to the classroom efficient as it supplemented my learning. The classroom is esthetically appealing, modern, well kept. The tools used are PowerPoint slides, handouts, and lecture that includes real life practices from an experienced instructor (Carol or Keoni). You're learning alongside like-minded individuals with similar goals and interests. The location of the school is centralized making it convenient for those living or working in all parts of the island. Our class was equally divided from West Siders, Upcountry, and South Siders. It is a very fast paced, compacted curriculum. The benefits of taking the live course over the internet course are the following: -expectations that require you to study, read, keep up and have discipline -group interactions -live question and answers -classroom setting -supplemental information that you wouldn't find in a text book -networking 100% of the real estate industry, from my own personal experience is who you know. In my class, I was introduced, informally, to 21 other students who are just like me: Beginners. We rushed through the get-to-know you and right into hard-working & studious colleagues. The class was well organized, structured, and ran very smoothly. I think the value of the information learned was well over the cost of taking the live course. I would take it again if I needed to, but I don't because I passed! I'll definitely be using Carol Ball for the Continued Education required after becoming an REA. Which leads me to my final point of this review: I completely understand what it will take to be a successful in this industry. I didn't just learn about RE law and how to use the state and federal resources for selling RE, but I understand the requirements to become a successful REA. The steps that follow after the class, and how to continue my career in RE. It would be unjust to call this the "best RE class in Hawaii," because I can't compare. But, I can definitely say that it exceeded my expectations by far, that I feel 100% prepared for my licensing exam on the 10th, and that I would 100% recommend Carol Ball. SIDE REVIEW: If I was looking for a company to help me purchase/sell a home, investment property, or vacation home, the experience that Keoni and Carol bring make them an excellent option! Review by an aspiring time-share sales person.

Michael Mazzella owes me 200k and he has stated in multiple emails that he does not intend to pay…read moreme back. I attended his courses in Honolulu and we made an investment deal in 2017. We signed a contract that I would lend him 200K and he would pay that back to me PLUS interest after one year. It has been 3 years now and he has paid back nothing. When I attended Mazella's course, I remember another man who was there, telling me that he was waiting on Mazella to pay HIM back...I should have seen that red flag and ran. Since the deal, I have become a quadruple amputee and I am 82 years old...the stress and heartache on me and my family has been unbearable. Now more than ever, with healthcare costs, long term care, I am depending on that repayment. I trusted this man and wish I hadn't. I have emailed him multiple times. Our contract stated I would be repaid with in ONE YEAR. He told me that he is 100% uncollectible because he does not hold assets in his name so there is no forced collection, levy or garnishment...and to not throw my good money after "bad." I interpret that to mean that he didn't have any plan to pay me back. In a recent email, when I asked him point blank : Do you have any intentions of repaying anything, this was his reply: "I've already answered this question. Twice in fact. Yet you keep asking as if doing so will change the answer. So I'm gonna answer it one more time. No. We have to wait until the deal resolves itself...If and when the foreclosure concludes and wipes out your interest, then you have lost money, and then we have that discussion. In the meantime you might want to consider lawyering up to protect your interests against the 1st position lender, who has named you as a defendant." Ultimately, the "Honolulu Mentor" or "Turtle Bay Mentor's" advice to me was to lawyer up, and my advice to anyone taking his class, is please do not make the same mistake I did by trusting this man...and the more I talk to people the more I find people just like me, in this situation with someone who did not hold up his end of the deal.

Your instructor and mentor, Michael, will teach you the right way to invest in any market. Just be ready to learn new concepts vs old school ways of thought about money, banking and real estate. In Michael, you have a mentor living and actively investing in Hawaii. I know quite a few graduates of the mentoring course who are very successful real estate investors after taking Michael's course and wanted to be successful as a real estate investor myself. Not knowing exactly what to expect I enrolled in the mentoring. Talk about drinking information from a fire hose! It's a lot to absorb during the week long course. He not only covers how to find deals and fund deals, ground you in the important fundamentals of real estate investing and will teach you from the ground up. Not only that, he teaches goal setting, who you need on your power team, critical thinking as well as mastermind groups. I really enjoyed the hands on training provided by going out to deals he has in progress. It comforting to know that even after graduating, I know that he is available for questions for up to 30 days. I'm am now a graduate of Honolulu Mentor and feel confident, because of Michael, I am now on my way to create the best year of my life! THANK YOU, MICHAEL! You're my hero!

Intrigued by it but not wanting to pay the hefty price tag, I booked and went in yesterday (6/4) for my first 4-handed massage with the students at Maui Academy of Healing Art. From first arriving, the gentleman at the desk was lovely and personable. We had a lovely conversation until the students were ready for me. I was with Students 3 and 4, Avery and Marissa and kudos to them! You're in a communal massage space and the students are helpful and informative for places to change, store your items, etc. Avery and Marissa were spectacular and I have to say they gave me the best massage I've ever had. I've had over 60+ massages in my life but this was way above and beyond. The four-handed massage is priced at $80 (bring tip for the students) and I can say that it is truly a steal. I've already rebooked and I'm making sure to work into my budget a 4-handed massage monthly. I know the students will rotate after graduating but it seems that they are learning to be exceptional masseuses here and looking forward to visiting again. Thanks! Tips: Parking in Paia is always a pain, arrive a little early and park in the lot closest to the Kahului side of Paia. There is usually always space and you don't have to worry about the chaos. The building is clean and beautiful with a prime location. Book a later massage and then go to dinner in Paia.
