After a recommendation from friends and a couple of glowing reviews, I decided to take my partner to the Mauchak on Valentines day. This turned out to be mistake number one.
Upon arrival, we informed the waiter that we had booked a table for two at 7.30pm who confirmed this. However, the restaurant was very busy and we were kep waiting for a long time before being shown to our table.
We ordered two drinks which seemed to take an eternity to arrive. When they did however, I was expecting the waiter to take our order. But, he just walked off. The restaurant was becoming increasingly busy and the staff looking more and more disorganised.
When our order was eventually taken, we ordered poppadums and pickles, mixed kebab and onion bhajis to start. These were again slow to arrive but were of good quality and fairly tasty.
After finishing our starters, we were now both looking forward to our main. I ordered chicken Madras and my partner ordered lamb gosht. Half an hour later, we were still waiting and our starter plates still hadn't been cleared. Other tables around us were full of people who were getting increasingly frustrated and one gentleman actually helped himself to a bottle of wine because he had been waiting so long.
The manager of the restaurant then walks over to the table next to us. He obviously knew the people dining at that table and in earshot of my partner proceeded to tell them that some customers hang around too long . I was shocked by this comment about the restaurant's customers.
When the mains arrived, mine looked like tomato soup with lumps and my partners was all greasy. With this in mind and the level of appaling service, we decided to complain. The staff were not interested in listening to any complaint and dismissed our grievances. We felt more annoyed that the manager would not accept any complaints.
In brief the staff were disorganised, slow and unhelpful. The food was ok but the bad service ruined the evening for us.
