This has the potential to work very well, however a restaurant has to have the food to go with it. Starters went very well - 2 well sized onion bhajis that were really light and a total delight to eat. The poppadoms pickles were well flavoured and nicely presented, with the onion salad being very fresh. The main course however was not so good. I ordered the dhansak which should be hot and sour. Now considering i was happily chomping away on the lime pickle to start with the main had far too much chilli in it - it completely drowned the other flavours in the curry. My friend had a prawn curry and his was even spicier than mine ! The naan bread accompanying the meal was light, well flavoured, and not swimming in oil. They have really tried at the Mauchak to change the mould of traditional indian restuarants - with nice contemporary crockery used. It's just a shame that their main product lets them down.

We visited for a meal having noticed it had re-opened and we were impressed both with the new interior which is modern and bright and with the food which was excellent. The place was busy on the Friday night when we went and there seemed to be a lot of takeaway orders coming through too. It may be a little out of the way but its definitely worth the journey. My tikka biryani was very good indeed and the bhajis we had to start were tasty and not too greasy.
