My old Central Air Conditioner was acting up. I could hear that it was on and sometimes it would cool but sometimes it was 84 degrees in the house with the AC on. It was very easy to make a diagnostic appointment with Matz-Rightway and I didn't have to wait long for an appointment. The Technician, John Kossin, arrived on time and was very polite, honest, and professional. It turns out that my AC was very low on refrigerant. Filling it solved the problem. What a relief! The price was very reasonable. I highly recommend this company and would use them again.! read more

Made an appointment weeks ago before the heat came, now because of other people issues my appointment gets changed. I don't want to have an emergency that's why I made an appointment. Guess I should have read the reviews before wasting a weekday to have Matz come to my house to give me a bid on complete hvac redo. This would be 40,000 to $50,000 job. When i called to ask if they could send someone a little more experienced than a guy who had previously worked as a server at Buffalo Wild Wings, the GM just got caustic with me. I explained I didn't want to waste my time or there's and just wanted someone experienced enough to solve a real problem with the current install. He basically seemed to say he was retiring in 2 years and didn't need anyone questioning how he did what he did and that it is "impossible to hire people". Oh well. The owners should make note of the loss in business. Could have been handled so much better and made a customer for life rather that get another negative review. Why not just say let my 'wings server' make notes and then I'll send the best guy to look at that situation, instead of treating my question as an assault on his whatever. Oh well. BEWARE OF THIS BUSINESS! I was a Matz-Rightway customer with an annual maintenance contract for years. When my AC went out during a heat wave and I needed their help, they weren't there for me-- unresponsive, unprofessional, couldn't schedule a date to replace my AC, leaving me with a house full of guests and no AC. WORSE STILL, when I hired another company (who immediately solved my problem in a way Matz-Rightway couldn't), I learned that Matz-Rightway seemed to have been defrauding me-- they had been collecting my money but hadn't been performing the annual maintenance I'd been paying for. The filters hadn't been changed, the condensor coils hadn't been cleaned, parts in the condensor had broken down and not replaced, etc. My experience: Matz-Rightway is neither trustworthy nor competent. read more

I am a recent homeowner in Southhampton. My heating unit was making noise and this company was highly recommended. The worker came to my house . Of course the unit didn't make the noise while he was there but he said I needed a new connector. I got the connector ( which I am not really sure was critical) , paid for the service and signed for a one year maintenance agreement. Shortly after he left , the noise started. I recorded it and sent it to the office. They thought it might be the blades and agreed to send someone back the next day. The same person came back was there for 5 minutes and said there was nothing that could be done , this is a noise caused by defrost , charged for the service call and left. I called the owner to express my disappointment and frustration about being charged when literally nothing was done. Was told the only option was to consider buying a new unit, if I did they would reimburse for the two service calls. I called another company that came this past weekend- the worker spent fifteen minutes outside and fixed the unit- the pipes were rubbing each other creating the reverberation and rattling noise. Fixed in no time. Matz Rightway was a huge disappointment. read more

These guys are great. Unfortunately, I had my furnace installed by a different company two years ago. When it went out on the coldest day of the year, I waited 12 hours and that other company never even showed up to repair it. In freezing desperation I called Matz and they arrived in less than 2 hours. Given the amount of workload they must have had on that particular day, I give them a lot of credit. Junior is polite and helpful. Phil is great on the phone and makes you feel like he really cares whether you freeze to death or not. The other company never even called to say they weren't coming. I will use Matz Rightway from now on. Ok I had to amend this and bring the review down a bit. The furnace broke again 2 weeks later (same problem) and I called the emergency number. I got a different employee who said to call him in the morning because he needed his sleep. Then when he did come out the next morning, he told me I needed a new part, said it would take 2 days to get it, and presented me with another bill. I told him I had paid 2 weeks ago and this was the same problem. He said it was technically a new problem because I needed a new part. He also compared himself to a doctor and said if a doctor doesn't fix you, you still have to pay them. read more

The biggest mistake when renovating a home we purchased was hiring Matz-Rightway in December. We paid to have two new systems put in, both with UV lights and one with a humidifier. All was fine until we switched to AC in the spring. They never installed a drain for the condensation and flooded and ruined our home. Thankfully our and their insurance is rectifying that. When they came to install the drain they then broke a coil in the unit and it stopped functioning. They then sent their "top guy" to repair it. It worked for a week and broke down again. They made all sorts of promises through their new manager Keith, but did nothing to follow through. We will now have the systems ripped out and redone by a company that knows what they are doing. STAY AWAY FROM THEM! read more

Not having a good experience with this company. I signed up with them because I liked the salesman that showed up to sell me a heating system for my cottage. After installation he was gone from the company. I have been asking them to come by (they are right around the corner!) to show me where I can install an new hatch to the attic space for weeks now. The lady that takes my calls is obviously annoyed and bordering on rude. I haven't even started the heating system as it has been summer, but am dreading any additional problems with these people. My contracting corporation used Matz Rightway to replace a geo thermal heat pump in a customer's home. Right from the beginning, that installation did not perform correctly. As the low voltage portion of the system was not part part of the contract with Matz, my company installed Nest E thermostats to replace the existing non-WIFI stats. As close-up photos show, the Nest stats were wired exactly as the existing stats. The customer moved in at the end of the summer season and the cooling portion was put to the test and did not work well. When we called Matz back to figure out the problem, they stated that the Nest stats would not work with the existing zone panel. They were then paid to replace the zone panel with one that they said would work with the Nests. As the temps got colder, we realized that the heat pump was not able to maintain a 70 target temp and the auxiliary heat was not being utilized. Matz was called back. They blamed it on the Nests and refused to fix it. My company had to spend a great deal of time debugging the problem and eventually learned that the new zone panel was wired incorrectly. We presented this fact to Matz and they beligerently continued to blame it on the Nests. My company wired the zone panel correctly and configured the Nests such that the auxiliary heat would work in tandem with the heat pump, as it was always supposed to do. After doing this, we showed Matz with clear historical run-time data how the heat pump was still not strong enough to heat the home even when the outside temp was 45-50 degrees. Matz refused to come back and fix the system they installed, and again blamed it on the Nest. Completely bizarre behaviour. Matz never properly tested their original install, because if they had, they would have found that the existing stats could not have cooled properly nor would they have utilized the auxiliary heat. We showed them close-up photos of how the original zone panel was wired and how they wired the new zone panel. Those photos proved that neither job was wired correctly. Matz was incapable of doing their job and tried very hard to blame everyone else. We will never use them again and neither should you. read more

I have had Matz Rightway perform annual (summer/winter) maintenance for the years since I'd purchased my home. I have a solid understanding of how homes function, although heating/air con is not my specialty. I research costs and processes online/ask my Dad or a friend in the industry, if I need help to understand something. Matz sent a young gentleman who pretty told me I needed a new gas furnace, as mine was way past needing replacement and "something could happen" (whether high carbon monoxide emissions, or worse) to which I replied that I would research new furnaces online and make my own purchase for them to install. He said his company would not install if I purchased. The difference in price was approximately 50% for a furnace when I compared. An industry friend came and looked at my furnace and told me just the opposite, and that only a cleaning of the burner assembly was needed. He recommended calling Grant Heating & Cooling out here on the east end of Long Island. They just left my house and said the cleaning wasn't even that bad, the carbon emissions is low (I also have detectors). No more Matz Rightway. That's just not cool. I had them come do a tune up for 99.99 plus the cost of the filter. When they arrived they did ot have the right size filter , they said they would come back with the right size and only charge me for the filter since I already paid for they service call. The next day I got a call saying just the filter would cost $ 180.00 and if I wanted the filter and uv system replaced it would be $ 850.00. Online the filter cost is $80.00 and the filter kit with uv lights is 160.00 both of these items were genuine Lennox items and merv16 rated , theses were discount prices where the company is still making a profit , I ordered the uv kit and it came with the filter and honey comb screen and uv lights , took me 5 minutes to install. I saved the paperwork and voice mail and will be reporting them to the better business bureau and consumer affairs , charging $850.00 for a $160.00 kit that took 5 minutes to put in seems excessive. In addition when they checked out the compressor they took off a wiring cover and left it on the ground when the closed up the unit. This company is. Rip off and I will be reporting them. read more

Tech was obnoxious --- told me "i could afford it" because I have a little (and I mean little !) place in the hamptons (Jack B) Second tech said that they couldn't install remote thermostat from another company and quoted me $900 for honeywell remote thermostat. Meanwhile, on Amazon a honeywell remote smart thermostat is under $200.00 ---- so $700 just for labor? I just get the feeling that they are only interested in the $ and I don't have a good feeling about their expertise. Maybe some techs are better than others. I would check out other companies reviews before using them. read more

They wanted to charge me $850. for a $182.part with installation. I now remember why we never renewed our contract with them. I would like to point out I was not aggressive or rude. I was willing to keep the service contract, but cancel the part and have my husband do it himself since he was qualified and licensed. They wanted to break the agreement. They would call me back and let me know. However they were extremely assertive over the phone. Contract now cancelled. It's really shameful that business ethics and customer service has fallen so low. read more

I respect ones opinion, But any individual with Negative thoughts regaurding Matz-Rightway has not had the pleasure of Having Mike in their Home. My past encounters with Matz have also been disappointing as most of the reviews have stated, but Mike has wiped the slate clean. He is far and beyond the most professional, intelligent, thorough, beautiful, respectful service worker that I've had in my home. Two separate technicians from two different local HVAC companies came here only to sell me parts which never resolved The issue. I Have used Matz-Rightway for almost a decade. I find them to be very responsive, knowlegable & customer focused. I have a Priority Maintenance Agreement which entitles me to have my HVAC system maintained 2x/yr. I recently had a dispute regarding a spring service call that required a 2nd visit because it was too cold to check system properly. When I went to use the AC for the first time when it did get hot, the condenser was not running & it did not work. They had to send a technician , who in less than a minute reset the high pressure switch. Originally I received a bill of 146.64 for this service call. I was very upset, since this should have been resoved during the spring service call. They reviewed & cancelled the charge. I would highly recommend them, as I do to all friends, family & neighbors. Technician Nick & all the other Technicians are very skilled, helpful & responsive. Office Manager Bali is very helpful, caring & responsive. This is a company that you can truly count upon. I have called them at 11:30 pm on a Sunday evening with a leaking heating system & had a house call & repair within an hour! High marks, kudos & gratitude to all the staff at Matz-Rightway. read more

I have used Matz for many years and previously found them to provide decent service. The company was sold to a larger company recently. I recently had them do a major job for me and they neglected to finish an element. After many many calls to them on the subject and very few returned calls, they refused to complete the work that was fully paid for. I wold never use them again. read more

I used them years ago when they were truly a local business. Made the mistake of dealing with them for a house that was about 1000sq. foot. The job took 5 months as they fumbled with there "schedule" and each time seemed to up the price just when they had you committed enough. We manage a good sized office building in the Port Jefferson area and recently decided to replace the remaining 6 heaters since the remaining 3 had been replaced more recently. Keith and his crew worked around the schedules of our tenants and installed those last 6 heaters in less time than originally projected. They worked cleanly and their crew was very polite and respectful of our tenants and their guests. I would not hesitate to recommend them for your projects and more importantly I will use them for any projects we have in the future. read more

The worst. The woman manning the phones doesn't even apologize for making you wait 5+minutes on hold only to them not be able to provide you with any update on the part she ordered. What's even worse is that Matz gave the AC a clean bill of health in July, were called back again in early August and again in late August. On the THIRD visit I finally got an honest technician, who told me that the fan motor has likely been brown for quite some time (last two guys missed it!). I have been a Matz-Rightway customer for almost 15 years and at several different locations in East Hampton. I have always used them to perform the seasonal service on our AC and HVAC systems. During this time I have appreciated their high-quality and attentive service, so there was no question that, when I bought a 1890 cottage in the village, that Matz would install the AC systems for me. I have always found the office staff to be super helpful and the field technicians very knowledgeable and almost obsessive compulsive in their approach to their work. Of the techs, I know Mike F. the best and he has always been diligent in making sure we are happy with his work and if something isn't perfect, when he leaves the job, he expresses his disappointment and follows-up to make sure it is resolved to his high standards. Dedication like this is such a rare find; especially, on eastern end of Long Island. I've heard from other people that over the summer there was significant staff turnover. Things seem back to normal now and after 15 years of building the relationship, it is really easy to overlook a temporary situation that they have worked hard to resolve. Matz is horrible! They wouldn't come to my house when I had oil leaking from the furnace. The technician said it was not an emergency and wouldn't come the next day, even though I had a contract. The oil was leaking due to the technician that serviced it a week prior. I called RCF Fuel, who came that day and couldn't believe that Matz wouldn't respond!! Do not use Matz!!! read more

I was going to be a first time custumer until they did not show up for the appointment this past Saturday they were supposed to be there between 2-4 and it was getting close to 4.00 so I called they said I wasn't on there list and it was late in the day and couldn't do anything to help.I will avoid this company until I here there is new ownership or management. read more
