CITY SLICKER I have…read moredriven by here many times but i have never stopped. Recently I needed zucchini. We were having company over and I wanted to add grilled zucchini to the menu. When I stopped in I was amazed at the large selection of items they had. They also had a bunch of great looking zucchini. The normal price for them was $1.29 a pound but they were on special for 75 cents a pound. I grabbed 3 nice size ones and the total price was $1.83. Now that was a deal. I should have grabbed more. I was also able to meet the owner Chris. She was very friendly and helpful. She actually stopped in to drop off more zucchini. She was also there to see how the store was doing. We also started talking about cooking food and using fresh veggies. As she was talking to me she was looking through the peppers. She picked up two giant green peppers that were going bad and asked me if I could do something with them. I told her Yeah and she gave them to me. In fact, I took them home and roasted them on the fire pit. I also served them to our guests later that day and they loved them. In fact, the guests used them on there brats. I know roasted peppers are not a traditional topping but I must admit they tasted fantastic on the brats. Thanks Chris for giving me these and adding to our already delicious menu. This store is seasonal. I am not sure when they close down but I'm sure when it starts to get cold. I also learned that Chris is the daughter of the famous Jerry Smith who has the farm North of this location. So all of there fresh seasonal veggies come from there. Jerry Smith's farm has a great pumpkin patch for the kids to visit in October. If you haven't been there then I recommend you load up the Family and make a trip there. They also have a Corn Festival coming up in August too. Those events take place at the Jerry Smith Farm and not here. I also have a Yelp Review posted for that location. Okay back to Green Acres. The selection was huge. They had a variety of potatoes and onions, Roma tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, regular tomatoes, 4 foot tall Dill, corn, hot peppers, green peppers, pickles, watermelon and zucchini. Everything looked amazing. In addition to the fresh vegetables this location also carried flats of flowers too. I really wanted the palm tree for $330.00 It looks so cool plus I would always feel like I'm on vacation if I owned it. So if you are driving down the road and you see a little shack at the side of the road it's Green Acres. It is the place to be. It's like farm living which is the life for me. Yeah I may get allergic from the smell of hay. I do love the country but I also love my big city too. There are some song lyrics mixed in there above...enjoy!!! See Green Acres makes me want to break out in song. I'm happy that people seem to be getting healthier. Places like this are helping us move in the right direction. We need to learn how to make food again and not out of a box but from scratch. It is not only rewarding to do this but it tastes amazing. So I appreciate Green Acres and I can not wait to stop back.

Had a fun time with the grandkids who played in a large sandbox filled with corn, traversed a small…read moremaze and played in their activity center. Visited the farm animals and made their own caramel apples. On a past visit we did the corn maze and got lost a while so passed this visit. We had a nice lunch in their cafe area with a variety of wraps, sandwiches, soups, and salads. The food was delicious but the serving staff were a bit grumpy. There's also a shop that features local cheeses and meats, wine, and craft items. It's worth a visit in the fall to secure a pumpkin and let the kiddos burn off a little energy. A side trip to the Jelly Belly Factory is only a short 15 minute drive away and worth the effort.

I visited the location in the village of Mount Pleasant (near Racine, WI) to check out their 8-acre corn maze. The theme this year is the Loch Ness Monster, but I wouldn't let the theme influence you either way as it did not have a significant impact on the experience. The maze is divided up into different sections/quadrants that can easily be identified by different colored (blue, yellow, white, and green) strips running throughout the maze. The colors don't ruin the level of difficulty; they simply let you know that you are progressing into the next section and are really something of a safety measure. I moved at a relatively brisk pace and was unencumbered by small children. That said, it took me approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes to complete, walking roughly three miles. I thought it was a neat experience, and it gave me a nice touch of nostalgia as I haven't done a corn maze since I was a kid. I recommend checking it out, but I think it would be challenging to do at night or with children requiring a stroller as the ground is obviously dirt and not even. *Also make sure to use the restroom prior to entering

Aldi has great prices. I compared prices with other grocery stores; none can compete with Aldi's…read moreprices. However, people with disabilities should avoid the Racine Aldi on Durand Ave. They do not have motorized carts. It is the only large grocery store in Racine that does not supply these carts. Most people I know who have disabilities do their shopping at Aldi in Kenosha. Hopefully, the Racine Aldi on Durand will soon supply motorized carts needed for people with disabilities.

I bought some shrimp I was going to cook from Aldis and they had a 2$ dollar discount on them,…read moreseemed like a good deal but little did I know that when I got home and to started to cook this meal for me and my family the shrimp was (EXPIRED) The odor of the shrimp was horrible and I understand anything raw would have a really bad odor but, the odor continued to smell horrible even when the shrimp was cooked this is my first time having a bad experience with Aldi, and I hope it's going to be the last one. You can meet the farm chickens and they sometimes event host events (we went during a popcorn time which was super cool to try different popcorn seeds as well as spiced popcorn with plenty of variety!) There is an area where you can pay to slingshot apples at a target in the middle of a field. There's a corn maze that we weren't brave enough to go in and the apple picking was really great. We selected a larger bag we stuffed it to the brim and we definitely had enough apples to Last us for weeks and my husband made an apple pie. We will definitely come back next season!

I didn't really spend much time in the stores and was a bit surprised by the prices for apple picking. But I will say they had really nice empire apples and I got mostly those. They have others too but they were mostly picked over already as the empires had just at been opened up for picking. Mostly I was happy to get out to Wisconsin away from the boring Chicago Southwest suburbs, into less populated areas. I made a pie with some of the apples and it was really good. I would probably come back.

The land is 78-acres which allows for lots of steps, various areas such as the children's section, goat animal area, restaurant, pick your own apples, wedding venue barn along with farm shop and bakery. Visiting here will expose you to apple cider donuts (some of the best I have ever had), apple cider slushies, coffee, cookies, pickled vegetables, apple butter, wine, and games such as Holler Hoops, Skee ball, Giant Slide, corn maze and the golden goat bridge which showcases dwarf goats crossing high above and down ladders. The pick your own apples is spendy, but I justify the price by the amount of work it takes to run this establishment, the quality of products and joyous customer service. For 2 small bags, it was about $58.00. To pick, you can walk or hop on the hayride train. We took the hayride out to the orchard and ended up walking and wandering back. The hayride is worth going on because it will take patrons through a forest that has whimsical paintings on the trees resembling Alice in Wonderland. *note: be aware that if you attend after rainfall like we did, the grounds are extremely muddy and it is best to wear appropriate footwear. As we were traveling, we only had 1 pair of shoes with us and had to be very selective on our apple picking, whereas if we were locals, we wouldn't mind wet feet and mud. Apple Holler is a memory making space and who doesn't love memories. The bathrooms were even top notch which should give flavor into how well kept the property is. If we had more time in the area, I'd for sure return to check out the Red Barn Restaurant which serves both breakfast and lunch all day. Bravo, Apple Holler! Consider your new slogan (thanks to one of your staff members), "If you need anything, just holler." This could be plastered on t-shirts and said by staff walking around just like Kwik Trip says, "we'll see you again soon."

Apple picking at Apple Holler has been a seasonal activity for my husband and I, every year since…read more2020. However this year was so incredibly disappointing, that this will be our last year coming here. We go at the same time, every year. This year there was absolutely no apples to pick from the trees! We were out in the orchard for nearly TWO HOURS and I picked maybe two off a tree for the two 1/4 pecks purchased. Instead, they offered pre-picked apples in bins to pick from. I'm sorry?? Like at the grocery store?! Only if we went to the store, it wouldn't have cost us roughly $58 for 6 pounds of apples!! We know the weather has been spotty this year, but that's where Apple Holler should have taken the time to make an announcement about the "slim pickings" (really, no pickings) and encouraged people to come another time or for other services. Also prices keep going up, and much more than simply "keeping up with inflation". If inflation is really the cause, you need to keep the core experience the same. It's been going down each year, but this year was a total fail, bust, lemon; no matter what you call it, it wasn't worth the money. This has been such a tradition for us that it's a little sad to close this chapter, but my husband and I are looking forward to a new location where we feel our experience matches the upfront cost.
