CITY SLICKER I have…read moredriven by here many times but i have never stopped. Recently I needed zucchini. We were having company over and I wanted to add grilled zucchini to the menu. When I stopped in I was amazed at the large selection of items they had. They also had a bunch of great looking zucchini. The normal price for them was $1.29 a pound but they were on special for 75 cents a pound. I grabbed 3 nice size ones and the total price was $1.83. Now that was a deal. I should have grabbed more. I was also able to meet the owner Chris. She was very friendly and helpful. She actually stopped in to drop off more zucchini. She was also there to see how the store was doing. We also started talking about cooking food and using fresh veggies. As she was talking to me she was looking through the peppers. She picked up two giant green peppers that were going bad and asked me if I could do something with them. I told her Yeah and she gave them to me. In fact, I took them home and roasted them on the fire pit. I also served them to our guests later that day and they loved them. In fact, the guests used them on there brats. I know roasted peppers are not a traditional topping but I must admit they tasted fantastic on the brats. Thanks Chris for giving me these and adding to our already delicious menu. This store is seasonal. I am not sure when they close down but I'm sure when it starts to get cold. I also learned that Chris is the daughter of the famous Jerry Smith who has the farm North of this location. So all of there fresh seasonal veggies come from there. Jerry Smith's farm has a great pumpkin patch for the kids to visit in October. If you haven't been there then I recommend you load up the Family and make a trip there. They also have a Corn Festival coming up in August too. Those events take place at the Jerry Smith Farm and not here. I also have a Yelp Review posted for that location. Okay back to Green Acres. The selection was huge. They had a variety of potatoes and onions, Roma tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, regular tomatoes, 4 foot tall Dill, corn, hot peppers, green peppers, pickles, watermelon and zucchini. Everything looked amazing. In addition to the fresh vegetables this location also carried flats of flowers too. I really wanted the palm tree for $330.00 It looks so cool plus I would always feel like I'm on vacation if I owned it. So if you are driving down the road and you see a little shack at the side of the road it's Green Acres. It is the place to be. It's like farm living which is the life for me. Yeah I may get allergic from the smell of hay. I do love the country but I also love my big city too. There are some song lyrics mixed in there above...enjoy!!! See Green Acres makes me want to break out in song. I'm happy that people seem to be getting healthier. Places like this are helping us move in the right direction. We need to learn how to make food again and not out of a box but from scratch. It is not only rewarding to do this but it tastes amazing. So I appreciate Green Acres and I can not wait to stop back.

Location remains on the north side of the road. The farm no longer sells its produce through farmers markets or a CSA. The stand is its sole sales outlet. Pick-your-own remains $1.00/lb. Prices for already picked produce are still reasonable but up slightly from before. Everything is still grown with heart and free of chemicals. Stand should open this year around July 1.

We were worried parking would be difficult to find, but there were tons whether street, parking lot of even by the museum. We came shortly after 11am and there were tons of people but the market was so big we never felt like it was too crowded. Yes, they have lion's mane, in all of its repugnant mushroom gloriousness. River Valley Ranch Mushroom Farm was started in 1976, by Bill Rose and his son, Eric. They continue to run the show today. The focus here at River Valley Ranch is on producing chemical-free mushrooms. They have multiple barns that serve as mushroom grow rooms, but they also produce a variety of other chemical-free vegetable crops. They sell their produce in their store and also local farmers markets. The store inside River Valley Ranch is like a dream come true for people who like to eat good, local food. You will find produce and goods that River Valley Ranch has grown and created on their farm, but also local Wisconsin products created elsewhere. Everything on the shelves feels like it was carefully considered before being placed there. There are also freshly baked loaves of bread baked in-house, wine and beer, Wisconsin cheese, many jars of pickled things, jellies and jams, and a kitchen where you can find meals and hot food. They had an apple cheese spread that I would have purchased, but I thought that $15 for a small container was a bit much. The apple tree were only $22. I thought that was a bargain... I can't wait to get home to make the pumpkin bread! Next time I visit, hopefully it will be on a sunny day so that we can walk around the orchard.
