Wow, these guys are a godsend compared to dealing with dealerships. I just realized the irony in the that sentence. They are very flexible with their schedule, and if you ask nicely, they can probably fit you in somewhere if you really need an oil change or something else fixed. The prices are very reasonable, and I definitely like to support the local businesses, instead of large corporations. The management has common sense, which is awesome, and treat your car like it was theirs. I really like their online scheduling website. I usually end up dropping my car off as I work close by. I bring my Saab here. They probably hate me. I have a stupid Ignition Interlock Device (breathalyzer that determines if my car starts or not) courtesy of the city of Stevens Point, county of Portage, state of Wisconsin. It will randomly make you blow into it when the car is running. If you don't, the lights will flash and the horn will honk incessantly until you turn the car off. This makes my car really hard and probably annoying as all hell to work on. I've had to help the guys at the garage figure it out a few times. That being said, they deal with me anyway. They stick to the estimate, don't bullshit, and do their best to get it right the first time. They'll give you a ride to work if they aren't too busy. One convenient locations at Hawley and Vliet. Some things: The (I think?) owner guy is an older foreign fella who doesn't know how to computer. If you drop your car off with him in the morning, don't expect him to note what you need done in a discernible way for the guy actually doing the work. You will get a phone call later in the day trying to figure out what you need. Make sure to stress that they call your daytime number. There is a big German Shepard who lives in the garage. He wants to tear off your fucking face with the fury of 1,000 Bill Romanowskis denied their performance enhancing drugs of choice. Don't leave the customer area. He's not allowed in there. He will, however, ferociously bark and growl at you through the glass just to let you know what a tasty snack he thinks your gonads would be. A note on this and all auto garages for the uninformed: If you ever go to a garage and they're smiling, really nice, kiss your ass, and don't seem too busy, you're going to get ripped off. Real good mechanics are like the guys at Matt's: Kinda gruff, hurried, and just nice enough not to leave a bad taste in your mouth. It's because they're BUSY. They're busy because they have a good reputation and get a lot of repeat business, which they want to keep going. They give a shit about fixing your car, not ingratiating themselves. It can be stressful. Take it from me, I delivered auto parts to dozens of garages and dealerships when I was a younger dude. The "assholes" always did the best work. The "nice guys" standing around smokin' cigs and cracking jokes are usually as crooked as the day is long. They wouldn't piss in your mouth to put out a fire in your stomach unless it made them a buck. read more

I'm guessing this place used to be pretty good but my experience at trying to work with them has been quite poor. Last year I used their online booking system to bring my BMW in for service since I live so close to them so used their website to book the appointment online. After you go through the online booking you get a message saying they will call you to confirm but that call never came so I called them the day before the appointment and left a message (no-one picked up), but no-one bothered to call me back so had to take the car somewhere else. Fast forward a year and I decided to give them another try given how close they are to me but rather than booking the car service online via their website I decided to call. I called 3 times and every time they would pick up the phone, not say a word, and dump me into hold music or put the phone down so I figured something was wrong with their phone system. Called a 4th time and finally a person actually answered but sounded pretty annoyed at having to take the call. I tell him I just called 3 times and kept getting dumped into hold music without anyone actually saying anything so let him know they might have an issue w/ their answering service and then the guy says "well we're really busy. what do you need"! Needless to say if that's how poorly the service their customer calls then I don't want them near my car. If their too busy to be decent on the phone then they're probably too busy/overworked to do a proper job on a car. read more

I only know enough to check tire pressure, change tires, and check my oil level... but that's about it. I thought that I had a good relationship with these guys and have been taking my Land Rover to them for the last 2 years. But they recently just stopped communicating with me and I'm not sure why. I had a warning light on and they installed 4 new sensors for me, but the light stayed on. I asked them to get me a quote on a new module and heard nothing after a week. So I went over and told them that I purchased the module and that I would like them to install it. Dennis said he would get me on the calendar. That's the last I heard and it's been a month. So I went to O'Reilly's on the other side of town and asked them to install the module for me. Before doing so, they checked the sensors and found that only 2 of the 4 had been written/coded correctly by Matt's during installation. They fixed the codes on the spot and the warning light is now off. Again, I like these guys at Matt's and thought I was a good customer, but when they stopped responding to me, I had to go elsewhere and I'm happy that I did. read more
