I am a senior companion and took my client to this store to buy a new mattress. While shopping, the regional manager, Jon W., was very helpful. Unfortunately, he ordered the wrong mattress. After a lot of phone calls and texts, he finally delivered a new mattress. However, again the wrong mattress was delivered and it was a cheaper one than what my client purchased. There was no apology and then he began lying. He refused to deliver the correct mattress. What kind of regional manager rips off a 79-year-old customer? Buyer beware. My wife has a very bad back, deteriorated disc, and spinal curvature. Over the past three years, we have tried two other mattresses from other stores. They were expensive, but worse, they made her back hurt. They were way too firm. So we landed here to try a third time. Alena hooked my wife up on some test bed (seemed like a sci-fi Rube Goldberg scam machine). It recommended a bed type. And... Based on the assessment, Alena recommended two beds, one fairly inexpensive and one quite high in price. They both felt good, but the expensive one was awesome. Alena worked with us on price, and my wife slept like a teenager this week. Much improved comfort sleeping and less pain in the day. Even the delivery crew was fast, polite, and professional. The Vitamin shoppe is right next door. I was in need of a new mattress and just wanted to see what they had. I figured they were selling off name brands. To my surprise they had a great selection and name brands at discounted prices. The associate was very pleasant and told me about each mattress. I can sleep on a rock myself, but my wife needs something softer. We have a Converted Water Bed to a Mattress, hey don't laugh. This is a high end and we both fell in love with the furniture 20 yrs ago and still love it today. Arbek is the mfg and it is solid oak through and through. They had a mattress the fit our needs so we purchased it. They had free delivery so we set up a delivery time. I figure we would be waiting all day, you know we will be there from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. They set a time on the dot and they were on the dot delivering it. I have a horrible experience with this store, please read this before you consider buying a mattress from this store. I bought a Tempur-Pedic Adapt Mattress on July 17, 2002, the price listed at the time was $2449.00. I told the sales lady that I could wait for a sale as I didn't really need a new mattress at the time and she told me they have a price guarantee, if the mattress went on sale, she would match the price and gave me the difference. She also mentioned for Tempur-Pedic they offer 12 months satisfaction guarantee, if I am not happy with the mattress, I can get a free exchange. With all the guarantee, I bought the mattress and they delivered it very fast, everything was great. However, my back started hurting after I slept on it overnight, and it kept hurting, so I called the store after about 2 weeks and wanted to exchange to a softer mattress. They told me to wait for 30 days first, I agreed as it makes sense to break the mattress in. More than a month later, my back still hurt and I could not take it any longer. Just before the labor day, I checked the website and the same mattress is now on sale for $2249.00. I called the store and asked for a price match and exchange, the lady on the phone told me she would need to talk to her DM and get back to me, she told me there is over $100 charge for new delivery fee etc and I agreed to it. I waited for 2 days, no one called back, so I called again, and again, I was told multiple times to they would get back to me after they talked to their DM, but no one ever called me back ... So I decided to go into the store on Sep 4 right after the labor day, there were 2 ladies working there, I pointed to them the sale price $2249.00 displayed on the exact same bed, and the bed I wanted to exchange to. She was very nice and put all the paperwork in for an exchange and sent it to corporate. She told me she did a free exchange without the $200 price difference refund, I agreed to that, it's not much difference anyway. She said someone would contact me soon for a delivery. Well, I waited for 10 days, no one contacted, so I called and was told to wait a few more days for the corporate approval. Last week finally someone called me, they wanted me to pay for over $100 delivery fee first which I gladly paid, but no delivery date, I asked her about the price match, she said to email her with the sale price proof, which I did, even though the price was displayed on her store. It's been a week since I paid for the exchange delivery fee, no one has gotten back to me with a delivery date, and no one responded to my email requesting the price match. I called multiple times again, finally a lady told me it would take another 10 to 14 days for the cooperate approval and my price match was denied, then she hung up on me. We purchased a queen mattress and adjustable base in June 2020. We were told that if we weren't satisfied we could exchange mattress after 30 days. Six weeks later we called in asking to upgrade the mattress to a king size, base as well. We were happy to pay the amount needed to make this change. Associate stated that she was new and didn't know how to process this change, please call another location. We did. Sales person walked thru the process and gave us the amount that it would cost to upgrade. We paid it right then with credit card. THEN he advised that it wasn't actually a done deal but would need to be expediated to higher level for approval. Ok.. how long will that take? ... only couple of days. Two weeks later (and many phone calls FROM our side) we were told that the process for this type exchange had changed (actual date of procedure change was 4 days after we paid to upgrade)... They are not able to honor this upgrade..... well that is disappointing. I would think that any transaction made BEFORE the procedural change would be honored but it's Covid and the world is upside down. We get it. Disappointed but we get it. Also- should we not have been advised that it would be best to get the approval first and then pay the difference? It has now been over a month and we can't seem to find a person with the knowledge, experience or authority to refund our funds. We've been told numerous things that haven't happened. Our salesperson is gone, district manager has changed, no one seems to be there on corporate level. Endless loop of no resolution. Mind you sales person advised that funds would be back on our card in 4 days. (I have worked in retail and this is not a difficult process) We've spoken to new district manager via phone, email and text over a week ago. All we ask for was a status updated on our refund. It's appx $1300. That's not cheeseburger money. That's alot of funds. To date we've had no response or resolution. During this entire process there has not been one contact made towards us. Great experience! This was the second store I went to today in my quest for 2 new mattresses for my kids. The first place I went to was full of high pressure sales tactics. This one, had none of that going on. I was greeted at the door by Stephen. I told him what we were after, and that we wanted to start with the most inexpensive. He took us and showed us what was available in our price range, and let us give the beds a try without a sales pitch. Sale was excellent price was great. All service and support stopped inside the store. I don't know who's in charge of delivery but let me tell you. When you get a confirmation between 3-5pm and the delivery still isn't here on the upswing of 5:30. This review is going to hurt. I waited all day for the window. It came and went. I needed to go to the grocery. I'm restricted on movement outside my home due to medical issues. So when a delivery is confirmed, drivers need to let customers know why and when they will be late and not hold people hostage so they can't do anything else. Summary: Mattress Warehouse at 2111 Walnut St Cary, NC 27518 did the following: * Offered and retracted a deal offered by them, face to face from their manager Alan, siting that it was too cheap, even though they made the offer. * Did not have said manager Alan on site during two callbacks when attempting to take up the same deal above. * Later allowed the offer and purchase to occur when back in the store physically. * Later did not allow cancellation of a second purchase of the same mattress only 24 hours later because the manager was not on site to do the cancellation and siting a return policy that is very restrictive on "special orders". * Showed themselves to only care about $$ by following the letter of the law with their return policy and not spirit of the law in regard to the following: -Did not take into consideration that my moving company found our mattresses and that this was the reason for canceling (within less than 24 hours of the order) the second order which would have saved my family $210.50. -We were repeat customers and will, because of their handling of this, never again be customers. -That they might possibly lose customers due to this post and accompanying Yelp! review. * During my calls to Alan and the District Manager Kenny they still maintained $210.50 was too low a price to pay. Why they didn't return my money and sell the mattress for more is beyond me. * Have never delivered nor notified me of the availability of the mattress I have paid for. The Whole Story With the loss of two mattresses during our move we went to Mattress Warehouse at 2111 Walnut St Cary, NC 27518, after visiting many others, specifically because they ended up having a good deal on a single twin mattress only. Usually they want to sell a mattress and box spring combination. Strangely, on the phone, $210.50 for a Sealy Gladden Posturpedic Twin Mattress suddenly changed to "we don't sell them separately and that price is way too low anyway. " This was after the sales associate tracked down, by phone, the manager Alan, who we talked to previously face to face at the store and who presented us with the deal. However, after visiting a few more stores we decided to go back to Mattress Warehouse as our last stop and see if there was someone different and if the deal would come back to life. And that is exactly what happened. Mike sold us the first of two of these mattresses at the $210.50 price. Later, we decided to order a second mattress, which I did over the phone, and they did give us the same $210.50 deal. Later that day, our moving company, Orion Moving and Storage, called saying they found our mattresses and other lost items from this debacle. The next morning, I called Mattress Warehouse to cancel the order with them, which I had made less than 24 hours previously and the person who took my order, Sam, said that a manager would have to do that and he would not be in until Saturday! That person was Alan and when I talked to him on the following Saturday, two days later, he sited the return policy on the back of the order form which I did not have since it was a phone order and that they could not refund me for the order. I asked for someone higher up and he said he would have the District Manager call me but that he would just say they same thing to me. I told him to please give him my number. A week passed and no call. I called again and talked with Alan and had an identical conversation as in the previous paragraph. A few days later the District Manager Kenny called me and ultimately told he would talk with Alan and see what he could do. I never heard back from him nor have I ever gotten my mattress. I am tweeting @sleephappens the link above and sending it via their website "Contact Us" e-mail at http://sleephappens.com every day until I get a response. Day 1-4: No response from BBB contact e-mail address, No response from tweet @sleephappens and their website form submission Day 5: Got a call From Alan, the manager mention above, saying that "Corporate" had called and told him to let me know that I could still get the mattress or "store credit" and they were "here for you" in that respect. I re-stated my story briefly, about the move and order cancellation attempt, but he just restated what corporate had told him to say. I told him I would only be happy with a refund and he said he was not authorized to do that. I find it interesting that they don't see that losing a customer who only spent $215.50 and probably losing other customers, who will no doubt spend more than that, makes any sense. I'm guessing that the average person does not walk into a mattress shop looking for just a twin mattress. So if this review causes them to lose just one customer who was looking for a Queen Mattress set then they have probably lost $1500 - 215.50 = $1284.50 at a minimum. We bought our new mattress/boxsprings set from this location by accident (we meant to go across the street to mattress firm but mixed the names up). Walking in, the place looks ugly. Plain walls, a bunch of beds, and two metal desks at the back for the staff on hand. Pretty blah. But we were helped as soon as we walked in, tried out a few mattresses, and went with the one my parents had recommended we get. The mattress was scheduled to be delivered to our home 1 week later. The whole process took about a half hour. Our stuff was delivered right on time and the two guys were really nice. They also removed our old set. My wife and I decided we wanted to move from a queen to a king bed. We visited Mattress Warehouse in Cary and spoke with Kay. We told her what we were looking for and she answered all of our questions. There was a couple of questions she could not answer, so she got her Regional Manager on the phone and he answered the questions. They also gave us a good price on the mattress. The night before the scheduled delivery day, we received an e-mail stating the delivery would occur between 10:30 and 1:30 the next day. In the morning of the delivery, someone called me to remind me about the delivery. Ten minutes before the delivery, a computer generated message let me know the delivery was coming. Ten minutes later (about 12:00 p.m.) the two delivery guys showed up. Both of the fellows were very nice. The older one was a former Marine (he noticed my USMC flag). I told him my wife wanted me to put the bed skirt on after the box springs were in place before the mattress was put in place. Once the two fellows had put the box springs in place, I went in the bedroom to put the bed skirt on, but the older fellow had already put it in place. Once we got the new bed, box spring, and mattress in place, we realized the new setup up was much higher than our old bed. I had not thought about the difference in height of our new bed compared to the bed in the store. We called Kay and asked her if we could exchange the box springs for shorter box springs. She said that would not be a problem. She said there may be a $100 charge, but she would try to get it waived. Every aspect of buying the mattress and box spring from Mattress Warehouse (and everyone we have dealt with) has been outstanding. Even if we have to pay the $100 fee to exchange, I have been extremely happy with this entire transaction. Everyone has been extremely professional and has provided service above and beyond. Never received my mattress. First time was told someone should have contacted me but that I could choose another mattress or come to the store and pick up the mattress since they had one on the floor- and they'd waive the shipping fee (! What a joke!) and zero apology. Tried calling corporate, left message with DM, no call back. Called corporate again a week later and was told by customer service that it was scheduled to be delivered two weeks later and they agreed to waive the shipping charge. The final straw was when the mattress was finally delivered and it was THE WRONG MATTRESS- in fact, a mattress brand I couldn't even locate online! Corporate is closed on weekends so I waited for the Cary NC office to open and spoke to someone who told me that it was on back order and so they gave me something similar (?!!!) and when I asked why I wasn't told beforehand, he said that someone was supposed to call me to let me know. This must be their "go to" line there when they screw customers over. He said they have that mattress in the store and that there is a local company they sometimes use to deliver but there would be a charge. So he gave me two choices- to wait for the mattress I ordered to come back in stock (except he couldn't tell me when that would be) or stop by the store and choose another, similar mattress and they'd order and ship it to me. I planned on going to the store to do that, but I just want the mattress I selected almost two months ago, paid for, and should be sleeping on by now. I am extremely frustrated and even more disappointed that a company of this size just can't seem to get it right - simple order. I plan to contact corporate one last time to see if there's any chance I can get the mattress I ordered perhaps shipped from another location. Hate shopping in general but my mom and I needed to buy a full size bed for her and were both wary of getting the sales push and smarmy "I know better than you" spiel from sales persons that we've experienced. We could not have been more reassured when we came into Mattress Warehouse and met Julian. He listened patiently, first suggested three beds that might suit her and gave us the distance and time for us to try them out. He then suggested 2 more beds to help us decide further until she made a decision. He answered all my questions and helped us understand how different beds were constructed for different needs. Worst customer service experience EVER at the Walnut St Cary store. After the sales guy made a joke about spending my money in excess of what I stated, he redeemed himself with what was supposed to be a pretty good/competitive deal for what I'd priced elsewhere. He then called the Glenwood "warehouse" to confirm what was supposed to be a Queen set, was in stock available next day. So far so good. Next day got to the "warehouse" and they started loading a twin. When we informed them it was a Queen he pointed to the MW paperwork code and told us it stated twin and that we'd have to call the Cary Walnut St store to work it out. Upon calling the Cary store I was told by the sales woman there that she would gladly work with me and the Queen I already bought could be purchased for $100 more. WHAT?! She then said she'd try to get a hold of the salesman who sold us the QUEEN set. Of course she couldn't get in touch with him and reiterated she'd be happy to "fix" the problem with another $100 from me for the queen set I'd already purchased but THEY screwed up. We let her know that what she needed to do was find the sales guy from the day previous and when he confirmed it was a QUEEN we were supposed to get she could then schedule the set for delivery since we made a 30 mile round trip for nothing. She informed me that if I was going to be upset then "we don't need to talk" and if I was going to make demands she "isn't going to do anything to help." When I went back to the Walnut St location for my refund I discovered she is the manager. That only made this the cherry-on-the-cake worst experience ever had with customer service. Congratulations MW, you will never see my $ again. That "manager" needs to be fired, unless of course this is what MW is about... then it's BBB complaint time. read more
