Although I've been to this practice before, I brought my 18-year-old daughter for her first…read morenon-pediatric visit. She has a lot of concerns, has long had difficulty being taken seriously at the pediatricians' practice, and increasingly complained of discomfort and palpitations for over a week prior to her visit. I booked through ZocDoc, so it didn't actually generate a true appointment with the younger Dr. Hertz. I would have understood being moved to a different day, but on a busy Sunday, they still fit my daughter in to see the other Dr. (Howard) Hertz. Yes, there was a wait, which is to be expected on a Sunday and I brought a book. My daughter wanted to go in alone (her first time) and she was very apprehensive, and had been distressed in the days prior due to intensifying discomfort and broad symptoms. She came out of her visit extremely relieved, her concerns addressed, and with some testing appointments scheduled. She is afraid of blood draws, and said the nurses gave her an alcohol pad to sniff (normally I am there with her, so she was probably more anxious). In her entire medical history, she has always felt like any symptom she asked about was unaddressed, and the change in her demeanor after her visit was immediate - she was no longer scared she was seriously ill or on the verge of death. So on a busy Sunday, Dr. Hertz had a billion patients and still managed to make my sensitive/shy teenager feel heard, seen, and safe. I wasn't present so I didn't get the chance to explain her distress and discomfort, and he and the nurses noticed and addressed it anyway. My daughter is relaxed now and feels relieved, and I am so impressed that every person with whom she interacted made her feel safer and calmer. And I finally got to read my book!

I have never experienced an office this unprofessional. Years after a previous poor visit, I…read morereturned to give the practice a second chance. Aside from cosmetic updates, nothing had improved. The office called and asked whether I could arrive 15 minutes late because they were running behind. I agreed. I arrived at 1:00 p.m. and waited in the reception area until nearly 2:00 p.m. I was frustrated by the delay, but I understood that a busy office can fall behind, so I waited. I was then taken to an exam room. A staff member checked my vitals, reviewed my paperwork, and left. I waited more than another hour with no update. At that point I had been there roughly two hours. I went back to the front desk and asked whether the wait would be much longer. I was told it would not be and that someone would be with me soon. If the office was still running behind, or if they were unable to see me in a reasonable time, I should have been told. I am a working mother and cannot spend hours waiting without any communication. I was left alone in an exam room with music playing for over an hour, with no one checking in or explaining the delay. After more than two hours and no clear update, I left. A brief explanation or an offer to reschedule would have been basic courtesy. The lack of communication was the main problem.

They said it was because she missed a couple appointments with out calling which they might be right. But hard to call when ur in the emergency room. But they are hypocrites because we travel and hour to there office on numerous occasions and get there to find the doctor has left and no appointment and no call. We are gonna call the department of health and see what can be done about this.

Our family *loves* Dr. Shalmi for pain management! He is an incredible listener and artfully walks…read morethrough possible treatment plans. The office team is efficient and overly pleasant. I'd try and schedule appointments earlier in the day if you're coming from eastern Long Island and visiting the Babylon office. (Traffic is notably faster first thing in the morning on 27.) My favorite thing about this practice? They have an on-site surgical suite that's run with precision clockwork. A 9:15 epidural had the family in the car at 10:10. (And that's only because I had to use the powder room, and ask a medication question upon my return.) This office is on point with technology. Reminders arrive via email if requested. (I imagine their online portal is stellar but I've yet to check it out.) Thanks Dr. Shalmi! [Updated to reflect that I visit the Babylon 500 office. My bad for making a newbie mistake. I was excited! ]
