To start, there are no complaints regarding the actual dental work. My wife's coronectomy was performed professionally and competently. The staff were generally pleasant - we experienced no issues as some other reviews suggested. Based on clinical care alone, this would be a 4-5 star review. I had my wisdom tooth procedure done at this clinic a few years ago when they were still in-network with Premera, and my coinsurance was significantly lower than it is now. Here's what we were told: Premera would cover 85% of all services as an out-of-network provider. When we inquired about the difference between their in-network (their other location) and out-of-network costs, we were informed that there was only a 5% co-pay difference. Based on this information, we proceeded with the procedure. When we received the actual bill, we discovered that Premera does not cover 85% of the clinic's charges. Instead, they cover 85% of what they determine to be reasonable charges. For example, the clinic billed $853 for one item, but Premera deemed the reasonable charge to be $444, resulting in an unexpected additional cost of over $700. This discrepancy indicates a fundamental issue with the estimate provided and the coinsurance collected before the procedure. To avoid this situation, you should ask specific questions before treatment. For example, if you need a $1000 procedure, inquire, "If you bill $1000 but insurance says the reasonable charge is $600, what will I actually owe?" The calculation would be: Insurance pays 85% of $600 = $510. You owe $1000 - $510 = $490, not the $150 they might initially estimate. Request clear answers to these questions: What do you typically bill for the procedure? What does insurance typically consider reasonable? Ask for the worst-case scenario where reasonable charges are 50% of the billed amount. Ensure the estimate includes these assumptions in writing. If they cannot or will not provide these details, consider finding another provider. Any legitimate practice should provide this information. When addressing the discrepancy with the clinic, they claimed they did not know reasonable charges and described themselves as an "innocent third party" between patients and insurance. They have been in business for at least seven years, have likely performed over 15,000 procedures, and regularly work with Premera, one of the largest insurers in the region. Their transition from in-network to out-of-network suggests familiarity with these processes. After performing many procedures, understanding insurance billing becomes routine. It appears that this clinic may be intentionally providing misleading estimates. They set their own prices and, after years of dealing with insurance companies, likely understand what gets paid. The decision to go out-of-network with Premera indicates they preferred to charge more than Premera would allow. While this is their business choice, it is essential for them to be transparent with patients about the financial implications. This clinic needs to ensure transparency in their cost estimation process. Either the current method is insufficient or presents another issue that needs addressing. They should provide realistic scenarios instead of optimistic estimates and acknowledge the typical reasonable charges based on their extensive experience. I was referred here by my dentist for a frenectomy consultation. The experience with the doctor and assistant had me walking out before even meeting their scheduling/billing staff. While I try not to self-diagnose and let doctors be the doctors, I do like to be informed when going into an appointment and prepared with questions/concerns. I'm not being dramatic when I say I was the ONLY one referencing any actual information about the procedure or recovery. To start, the assistant led me to the room, had me sit down, and then asked "what am I looking at?" I told her I was there for a frenectomy consult, and her response to that was, "is that your tongue?" And then had me point to what I wanted to be seen for because she did not know where to look for a tongue tie? So, not the most confidence inspiring. Based on our back and forth she wasn't super familiar with the procedure, so I was fine waiting for the doctor to dive deeper. Once he arrived, I had the distinct sense that he wanted to get in and out as fast as possible. The interaction was cold, and he seemed annoyed at any question I asked, often offering dismissive and unhelpful responses. A few examples: - Q: I've heard that myofunctional therapy and stretches are important before and after the procedure, is that information you would provide? And what would that look like? - A: I don't think it's important before the procedure, maybe after. [No other information offered up] - Q: It looks like some people deal with their tongue being too big for their mouth and palate after a release. I have a small mouth, so do you think this will be an issue for me? - A: [without even looking at my tongue/palate] Probably not - Q: In your opinion would I benefit from this procedure? - A: [based on a 15-second look at my tongue tie] The thing with this procedure is, it's minor. So if it isn't a huge benefit it's just a minor procedure. Etc. And anytime I followed up for more info, that too was brushed off, and within 5 minutes he was leaving me to schedule my surgery and talk to their financial person. The icing on the cake was I once again asked about the exercises you need to do after the procedure to prevent the tongue tie from growing back, and was told "actually you'll want to not talk for a few days and not do any exercises until it's fully healed." When I mentioned that seemed in direct opposition to anything I'd read, the assistant said: "Yeah, this isn't really our specialty here." OKAY. Maybe don't list it on your website then? Or have people fill out the extensive paperwork about their condition (which includes that issue) prior to coming in?? Anyway, I walked out after they took me back to the waiting room. Maybe other people seeking different procedures will have a better experience here, but I definitely cannot recommend them. read more

I came for a consult, left with tears in my eyes and no surgery scheduled. I was referred to Green Lake Oral and Facial Surgery by my dentist for wisdom teeth removal. The pain bad enough that without pain reliever I am struggling to chew. Yawning is very painful. I share this only to put in perspective how uncomfortable I had to be to leave without scheduling the surgery. One seemingly small thing that stood out to me during the appointment, is that only the front desk staff ever introduced themselves to me. I did not know the doctor's during my appointment. The appointment started with an assistant taking me right to imaging and then back into an exam room. She seemed nice. Within 30 seconds of sitting down she began what you could tell was a very well-rehearsed script about the surgical process and risks of the surgery. It was a lot to take in, but I appreciate that this was the right thing to do. One risk was particularly jarring, and I asked about the likelihood it happening, and the assistant kept rotating the image saying, "It probably won't happen, but it could." It shook me up and made me nervous, but no red flags at this point. I owned that I was nervous about the number of risks and asked about the frequency of incidents. She told me they do this all the time then hands me a laminated "disclosure form" and leaves the room to get the doctor. This form has even more associated risks (printed front and back). I appreciate that these are being shared, but the first ten minutes of my appointment is all worse case scenarios. No one has asked how I am feeling, discussed average or best-case , or even told me their name. At this point I wish the experience was better, but not concerned. Then I overhear how the assistant is checking in with the doctor about me. She essentially tells him I am being irrationally afraid and he is clearly annoyed and discloses he doesn't care if I get the surgery or not. I am a woman of color, and it is very common experience for concerns to be treated as irrational. And overhearing the conversation I can feel myself shut down. They never reviewed my care plan or the reason for visit. I am a director at healthcare organization and am keenly aware of what just happened. I no longer am a human, I am a barrier to payment. When they both enter the room and for a moment I have hope, because he is also a person of color. It quickly becomes clear does not care at all about me. The doctor says, "I want to have a look." Within 20 seconds he tilts the chair pack, puts his hand on my forehead, and sticks fingers in my mouth. Then he stands ups and says, "Alright we can the one out, or all them." I am still trying to find my words. I am a little in shock.. He then says, "You seem real stressed. Is it the nerve thing?" And then mentions how I do not need to get care with them. He's been in the room less than 5 minutes. I finally say the words "can I go to the restroom." I am shaking. And to many reading this review, that does not make sense. I am in pain and I want to feel better. But my gut tells me this office does not care about me. So now I am torn between addressing my pain, or possibly having my surgical care be as thoughtless as the office visit. I called my partner from the bathroom to get their opinion. While on the phone I ask them to hold on, because I can hear the Assistant discussing with the Financial Coordinator laughing and their plan to bill me. I am fighting back tears, walk back to the exam room, and thanked the assistant for their time. She runs after me and asks me to wait in the lobby. This was part of the plan I heard. The financial Coordinator, sticks her head out and says "Oh no worries you can go I am going to bill your insurance." I asked her for an itemized bill, and she was responds "But you are not getting the surgery." Still fighting tears I ask again. She smirks, rolls her eyes and then says "Sure." My partner calls and I pick up the phone, the financial coordinator comes back and before I can even ask my partner to hold on, shoves the list of charges in my face and walks off. When I said that much to my partner she came back out of the door and confronts me. "If you want to talk we can talk?" As I ask my partner to hold she continues to passive aggressively dismiss everything I say, or talk over me. I was never a patient or human to this office, I was a possible procedure for which they could bill. For many folks, particularly those who are not BIPOC, this will not make sense. But for those that have had to depend on contextual or environmental clues to see if their bodies would be well taken care of, it makes a lot of sense. I am sure this is a great office if you are a member of dominant culture or have had nothing but positive healthcare experiences. If that is not you, I want to encourage you to listen to your gut no matter how embarrassing it may be and no matter how nervous it makes you. read more

The office is nice. The staff is nice, but after paying almost $1,000 the botox for teeth clenching did not give me too much relief. I wish I had taken that money to get a new mouthguard. I went in for a consultation over a possible cyst that had formed around one of my wisdom teeth. The nurse was fine and friendly. But when the doctor came in he was brusque and cold. I was concerned because I really didn't want the surgery as the tooth is near a nerve. My concerns were dismissed in a single sentence and then he proceeded to, with a semi hostile tone, explain that the tooth had to come out. Then when he offered to half-remove it (to better protect the nerve) his tone was very cold and somewhat disparaging. He acted like my fears were an inconvenience to him. I'm not saying he was wrong that I needed to tooth removed. But his bedside manner was atrocious and left me feeling unsafe at the idea of going into surgery with him. Why he could not have taken a moment to express sympathy, understanding, or even just act with patience I don't understand. I will not be returning. read more

I met Beatrice, one of the assistants, while she was temping at my office while her office was closed for a week. When I found out Beatrice worked for Dr. Epstein, I asked if her if he performs Blepharoplasty procedures to remove under eye bags as I had always been disappointed with how mine looked. She said yes and recommended I come in for a consult. I did, met Dr. Epstein, he explained that yes, he could do the procedure and gave me a realistic outcome after healing, and what to expect. I had this procedure performed in May of 2017 and the result is fantastic. I even emailed them daily photos of my healing process so they could see my healing progress and to show other people what to expect. No scars, no "lines", and no more bags under my eyes. Beatrice is what made this whole thing possible. Being a dental assistant myself, I was so happy to find someone else with passion for customer service, a genuine interest in the field, and trust in the employer she represents. Recently had my bottom wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Kim. Scheduling was super easy and flexible. The surgery was went pretty fast and the staff were all really nice. It's probably different for everyone, but I had minimum swelling and bruising. The front desk and the surgical team were available and helpful when I had concerns post surgery. Plus, both doctors there prescribed me generic meds rather than branded, which saved me lots of money (generic and branded meds are almost exactly the same but branded cost a lot more than generic). read more

I had my wisdom teeth pulled about a month ago (all 4!) and I had a great experience! I was super nervous (I hate needles and had never had surgery before) but the staff there really made me feel comfortable and eased my anxiety. From the front desk people to the dentist and support staff to the consultation liaison to the finance person, everyone took care of me and gave me all the info I needed. I had all my prescriptions available before the surgery so I could fill them beforehand and be prepared. I had a consultation and then was scheduled very quickly. They did all the legwork with my insurance! My only thing was that I was told I wouldn't need to take off work (but I took a couple days off anyways) and for me personally, I definitely needed it! Dr. Kim and the nursing staff was fantastic. I went in for a consultation and they were able to fit me in next day for a biopsy. The nurses that I spoke with during both visits were very knowledgeable, answered all questions easily, walked me through the procedure so I had no worries. Scheduling was easy, I was given my prescription during my first visit so I could have my medication ready before the procedure, and payment was easy and very reasonable. I recently had the Dr. do ear surgery on my right ear. Basically, my earring yanked down and stretched out my ear piercing (close to ripping my ear lobe). The Dr and his assistant did a FANTASTIC job! One week later and you can barely tell that anything happened to my ear! The procedure only took about 45min. Very simple and painless. My ear was pretty sore for about four days - it was bruised and pretty darn swollen! But by day 5, much of that subsided! He kept a stud earring in so I could keep my piercing. I returned a week later to have the stitches removed and my ear looks GREAT!! practically back to normal! So...I had my wisdom teeth removed a year ago. Everything went great, the hygienists and surgeon are incredibly friendly and they took great care of me...but there have been some fishy financial things going on. I have very good dental insurance and my insurance company has made it very clear how much reimbursement I should be getting from Green Lake Oral and Facial (~$1,000), and I have been calling Green Lake for 9 months now and they still have not sent this reimbursement. They continue to make excuses, to tell me they will "look into it," and blame our insurance company for making mistakes with the paperwork when that doesn't seem to be the case. Finally over a month ago they claimed to have sent this reimbursement which I should have received within two weeks...but still nothing...it's hard to get argue with them because they are so nice...I'm not sure what's going on but I still have not been reimbursed (it has been a year) and something is fishy. Update: It's been another week and a half, and after speaking with the office manager it turns out that the reimbursement was never in fact mailed (surprise). They are now delaying payment further, claiming that our insurance company paid them too much back in *May* and now they must cancel everything and re-process the claim. This is such a headache. read more

My Dentist, Dr. Vicki Fidler, recommended Dr. Epstein saying that she had only glowing reports from her patients; now I see why. Everyone at Green Lake Oral and Facial Surgery was kind, caring, patient, and the level of care I had was excellent. I had to have a tooth pulled under IV sedation because of my level of fear - that tells you something right there - and everyone in the office went out of their way to help me feel comfortable. Dr. Epstein took his time in explaining what was going to happen, and the day of the surgery was patient when I became scared. It's now one day after surgery and my level of discomfort is so low I haven't even had to take a Tylenol. I highly recommend Dr. Matthew and his practice (shout out to Beatrice the Surgical Assistant, and Shannon the Patient Care Coordinator, for their kindness and going above and beyond). My son had four wisdom teeth removed several months ago. Although the procedure went fine, I was disappointed that the surgeon never talk to me about the procedure. I did not see Dr. Epstein before or after the procedure, not even to tell me that everything went OK. We then went for a follow up and again, never saw the surgeon. We just had follow up with what I assume was a hygienist. And to my surprise, three months later I received a bill for $500 on top of the out-of-pocket cost he billed me at the time of procedure. I just filed an appeal with my insurance company because I have since found out that his cost for wisdom teeth removal are way higher then what other oral surgeons in the area or charging. read more
