It seems as though my initial post did not post... so I will write again in "kinder terms" due to the disregard for human kindness here & on this app for censoring my last post..... If I could give this place zero stars I would! I frequented this bar and went tonight with a group of my friends. (12/28/23). Over 15 women were groped and assaulted by the same man!! I expressed my genuine concern to the bouncer at the door, and told him that I didn't (as well as many other women) feel comfortable unless he was escorted out after we were all sexually assaulted and groped inappropriately, but he told me (and a multitude of women) that he could "do nothing" unless he saw it first hand. After sharing this with the bouncer ... he approached the man (who seemed to be a friend), "dapped" him up with a handshake, and continued on with his shift. If you care about you're safety don't come here. What happened tonight is disgraceful. Shame on you!!! read more

Super chill spot with ample parking and a large 5 table patio. Rolled in on a Thursday at 5pm and both pool tables were available. The bartender, Missy, was super sweet. Lagunitas IPA on tap with half a dozen other draft options. What else do you need? If you have a dog or you're a smoker or whatever, Matteucci's will welcome you. Have not been by for years so stopped in for a Blue Moon (actually 2!) on 7/21, mid afternoon. There were a few people at the bar of course and I was immediately greeted by the super friendly female bartender. I sat outside in their parking lot/patio that had plenty of tables, umbrellas, and is surrounded by several different types of flowers. A gentleman was out watering, pruning, etc., also very friendly-said he maintains the plants. Glad some things don't change, this place is one of them. read more

the open sign always remains on. the reason is because the owner is too cheap to fix it. the bar tender was not kind, or the type of man i as a woman would want to patron. inside looked alright before i was ushered out like i was some drunk nuisance. guess what? dead sober. just because your a bar tender in your late 50's doesn't mean you need to treat everyone like they are belligérant. kindness is important. just a note. hugely unimpressed with the san rafael bar scene. he even argued with my apology. i know he's gotta deal with a lot of unruly patrons, but i wasn't one of them. everyone's doing the best they can with the tools they have available. i'm sorry your tool box is so limited and i'm sorry you can't do better. would not recommend. and would recommend to the bartender :; find job you like doing. don't begrudgingly offer women shots when your the one with the broken open sign. Matteucci's is exactly what it seems. A neighborhood bar where they remember you, and your "usual". Our friends and neighbors piled into Matteuci's for my birthday celebration nightcap, last Sunday. We had fun, laughed, and celebrated without reserve. What a great time! The bartender was so happy for me, and she was genuinely enthusiastic to see our group enjoy my special day. The drinks were delicious; masterfully made. My "birthday shot" of Fireball really hit the spot, and stuck with me well into Monday afternoon! I used to frequent Matteucci's in my college days, but really haven't been there is quite a while, even though we live quite nearby. I must say that the "frozen in time" vibe here gives Matteucci's it's charm. (However, one great update is the state-of-the-art TV set-up and music quality). read more

I went here with my boss and friend, and had a great time. One bartender was really funny and friendly, and the other was still polite enough for a bartender. It was karaoke night, which is always really entertaining. There were some girls singing songs and cracking us up. Even though the DJ made me sing the wrong song, we still had a great time. I'm not sure if it was just because it was a Thursday night, but it was a very young crowd. There was a group both to the left and the right of us which seemed to be full of barely 21 drinkers. No worries for me, but some people care about that kind of thing. I thought the seating was maybe a bit uncomfortable, but the layout was appropriate for a bar this size. What can I say about "The Tooch" that hasn't already been said? It's a groovy wee dive bar in a place where groovy wee dive bars are in very short supply. Decent supply of beers on tap, and even decent-er (?) supply of liquor. We strolled down there on Saturday night, and the place was pretty dead apart from the regulars (all six of 'em) but still had a friendly atmosphere. Prices are city-ish - $4.50 a beer - but you'll likely make at least one new friend who'll buy you one. Bonus points for a couple of pool tables, and the Stella on tap! read more

One of my favorite watering holes in Marin... close to home. Great selection of music on the jukebox, pool tables, nicely kept secret is you can order a hot dog there and they will cook for you.... or you can order food from any restaurant that will deliver and you can eat it there.... The drinks are great. The bartenders are really nice. The prices are fair and in line.... I don't go often, but when I do I always have a great time.... I'm a local and long time karaoke regular. i've never written a yelp review, and I am not by any means a professional, but this needed to be written. Darnell, a.k.a. the mad hatter that does karaoke at this bar is inappropriate with patrons at the bar and bc I refused his advancements and told his wife about his behavior, he now won't let me sing, even if I tip him and encourage others to tip. He even told the staff to stop serving me despite me tipping generously to them and being kind and positive to everyone. jarring when sexism shows through a seemingly good time and place. I had to leave bc I wasn't getting served and wasn't getting called up to sing. One of Darnell's friends was even harassing me for a ride home, despite me telling him I wanted to sing again and I was signed up. He said okay. Darnell called that friend up to sing three more times but not me. His friend then again asked for a ride home. I told him I couldn't give him a ride and stayed but was refused service and wasn't called to sing again. Sexist staff. Toxic environment. I've known Darnell for 15 yrs, and this is how he treats his "friends". Sad. Lost my business and my kindness and generosity of spirit and for sure my respect for life! read more

You had me at hello! Who'd of thought that a dive bar would go above and beyond the call of duty? But that was my first mistake, because Matteucci's isn't a dive bar..it's an old-school neighborhood bar with an ecclectic, warm atmosphere. When I called a few weeks ago to plan a surprise party for my beau, Dan was incredibly accommodating. We opted for a cash bar and he set us up with drink specials plus a place for our food. About 40 of us rolled in and the the bartender..darn I forgot her name was top notch and on it. Every time I needed something, she already had it handled! So grateful to Dan and his staff for taking such wonderful care of us..it really made for a fantastic night and memories! read more

There's nothing like a high school reunion, if that's what you're looking for. Personally I can pass on things like that. There's a reason why I don't speak with many of them anymore, and for those that I do, it's very unlikely that I'll run into them while at Matteucci's. Walking in to the bar, I spotted at least three people that I "hid" from that night, although it's hard to hide in there. Not enough room behind the jukebox between the wall to slide in a get lost while drinking my Belvedere and soda. I had great company, which makes for the night of course, but otherwise, I really need to be inebriated to enjoy my time there. The location is convenient though, just a few minutes from my house and close to most of my friends, so carpooling and making sure we have a DD is a piece of cake. After consuming a few beverages from the very friendly bartender (who did pour strong I must admit) we resided in the smoking area in the back. Nothing like a pouring wet night while huddling in the corner puffing on your cancer sticks with a nice strong beverage. The counter's were too dirty, as my wallet didn't stick to the bar and my shoes did not stick to the floor. Bonus points for that one. Definitely a cleaner "dive" bar. Much better than the deuce or the peso in my eyes. But there is a price to pay for having to listen to all that old crap from your "friends" when you ask benignly "How have you been?" I've learned another valuable lesson though, just to keep my mouth shut and not ask any questions next time I roll through those double doors. read more

Matteucci's can best be described as the love child of a 1950's bar and a dive bar from today. To the left is a full bar, complete w/ hot dog and beer specials and chilled Jgermeister on tap. To the right are some old school booths, tables and a juke box (this is no ordinary juke box either - the juke box alone gets 5 stars). A true neighborhood "oldie but goodie." Not only do they get 5 stars because they used to let me in underage, but they deserve every burst of their stars! It is a small bar, a sweet little outdoor area in the back that looks like a mini garden, and a couple pool tables. The service is always good and there is a little bit of everyone. Keep in mind, the night before Thanksgiving this place is like Miami! They are known for letting loose the night before T-day, and they do it well. A total local bar with real style. read more

I love this place. It's kind of old timey neighborhood bar. You go in and you're greeted when you come in. The bartender asked if I was a new customer and I was and she bought me my first drink on the house which I thought was a very very good way to introduce a person to a neighborhood bar. The interior is modest kind of old timey as well. One of the great things was when you pull up you see the Blues Brothers statues over the building they've got it up on the roof for on one of the eaves there and it's pretty funny to pull up to the Blues Brothers up there. They have a pool table. Are nice selection of beer and I don't recall any food being served there but I certainly had a great time hanging out while I was there and made so welcome. This place is walking distance, friendly, has great service, pool tables, dice and a cute outside area. If you go on the weekend you can meet Adonna who makes great drinks. I have to correct many who have posted here. This is not a dive bar it is a bar. I used to go to the long closed Theater Club on Haight St. That was a dive bar, in fact I used to describe it as the worst bar I would go into. For you familiar with San Rafael the 881 Club was dive like before it moved. Matteucci's is the place you go after a very nervous trip with your grandchild to Oakland. It is a place where when the attractive woman next you, who came in with a group reeking of Ganga, will not find it offensive when you talk to her. It is a place where you can walk in ask if the Boss is there and be told no and sit in his seat and enjoy what is going on around you. And now it has a decent pinball machine. Ahh the dirty tooch...so many memories...first of all, the location is kind of a trap... I mean it's right there on that strip of land b/w San Anselmo and San Rafael, and the parking lot is exposed to all five-O driving by. I grew up in Marin and Matteucci's it the best for gathering friends to hang out and watch the games, play pool and just chat. I now live in Washington State but go home every year at Thanksgiving and going to Matteuci's is one of the highlights of my trip. The atmosphere is great, as well as all the bartenders. This is the most unfriendly, unwelcoming bar I've ever encountered. (And I've visited quite a few in my 60 years from Chicago to LA.) With the exception of Ladonna, the bartenders don't engage patrons AT ALL you lay your money down on the bar and you treated as a nuisance. Bar house keeping seems to rule here F customers I once asked for a hot dog, but they were out. I've seen people bring there own food here. No kidding. Weekend (friday) bartender is awesome, friendly, and makes it a point to let you know she's there for YOU. The pool tables are only 75 cents to play, and are usually pretty open. The bathrooms are clean and inviting, and the whole place just has a cute, fun, vintage kind of vibe. Good place to chill with friends. Also, drinks are quite reasonably priced, and so far, very well-made! read more

I first came here as a moronic 21 year old and hated this place. I let 10 years go by before stopping by again. What's so great about it? It is a neighborhood bar for sure, you can tell when nearly every person walks in and the bartender acknowledges them by name or regular drink. That makes it feel welcoming even for the none regulars. Also I have noticed that the crowd is not the fresh 21 year old getting long island ice teas but a more low key older crowd. The bartenders are friendly and professional, thanks for asking for my id, my anti wrinkle cream must be working. There are actual tables with chairs too, so it would be a great place for 4-5 friends to sit down and catch up maybe a game of pool. Mind you I stop by with a friend on Fridays for about a 1.5 hours before 8pm so not sure how it is late night. read more
