Our situation was a little complicated because our families helped us by providing our down payment - while we were grateful for the money, what this meant was that seven people were house hunting instead of two. Matt was very accommodating and answered all of our many questions with extreme patience. There are no words. But I'm going to find some because the Internets need to understand how amazing Matt and Peter are. My mortgage broker, Jennifer Chau (also 5 stars!), recommended Matt and Peter to me. I called them second. My first call was to a realtor my friend had just used who she swore would be a great help to me. I told her I was looking for a 2 bedroom, one level, with a backyard in Oakland for under 300K. She told me what I wanted was impossible and that I should talk to friends and family about having them help me increase my buying power. Feeling dejected, I called Peter and gave him the same list. He assured me that they could find me something- that I might have to prioritize my wants, but that they would find me something. He told me to email or text if I had any questions about any properties that I saw, and I certainly did. Every time I saw something I was vaguely interested in, I texted the guys to get the scoop. Predictably, in the current market, everything I saw in my price range had a tenant issue, big time repairs needed, or was in a bad area. I was in the fortunate situation of not having to move, which gave Matt and Peter time to strike gold. Four months after I started looking, they found the perfect 2br, one level, house with a HUGE backyard, a garage, a tankless water heater, blackberry bushes, a fireplace, wood floors, and 1940s charm in Oakland for under 300K. As closings can be- there were some negotiations that had to happen and both Matt and Peter were on my side, fighting for what I wanted in all cases. Sometimes I had to compromise, but I always felt looked out for. We only saw two houses before this one, both of which I had chosen and both of which were not the house for me. In short, Peter and Matt are AMAZING! Without question, anyone looking for a real estate agent in the bay area should go to them. In long, buying a home in bay area can be stressful and seem impossible. My Fiancee and I started our search over a year ago with a different agent. This was not our first home. We'd owned our home back east before relocating to the bay area a few years ago. Having been though the process back there, we thought any agent would be fine and we'd be able to wrap up the purchase quickly. We. Were. Wrong. The agent we used didn't ever want to offer an opinion, guidance, or assistance. She didn't really want to show us homes or offer up options in our price range. After putting a few offers in and getting horribly out bid we abandoned that agent and our search. Fast forward a year. Rent goes up 14% and buying a home sounds like a great idea again. However, given the stress and uncertainty we experienced in our previous attempt we were less than eager. Our friends told us that having the right agent makes all the difference. And boy were they right! We found Matt and Peter right here on Yelp. Their reviews seemed too good to be true, they're not. Our experience was better than the reviews! They were the first agents we've ever had that took the time to meet with us over drinks and discuss our goals. They were the first agents we've ever had to take us out and show us houses, offer us options! They were the first agents we've had that gave us accurate bidding/offer advice. They were the first agents to represent us as if the house we were buying would be their own. We were not easy clients. We didn't have a million in cash lying around nor could we put down a ton. Heres what we had:$600k mortgage and 5% down. Heres what we wanted: 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, single family home with a 2 car garage in a not scary neighborhood in the East Bay. Here's what we couldn't do: pay over appraisal or buy a non-move-in-ready home. Mission Impossible. After hearing our plight Matt and Peter reassured us that while difficult, buying a home given our requirements wouldn't be impossible. And they were right! The first house we put in an offer on we won! Sadly, during the inspection phase we discovered that the home was too close to the passing commuter train and had to back out. They could have abandoned us but they didn't, however they did go away on vacation. Not that you could tell, they were 100% on top of it, answering our questions and even putting in offers for us. And sure enough, we won again! YAY! We are now the proud owners of a 4 bedroom 2 bathroom home in Hayward with a 2 car garage. Away from trains but in a nice neighborhood. The sellers agent told us we were 1 of 8 offers, and ours was the 2nd highest. So why did they select ours? Paperwork. Apparently, Matt and Peter were the only agents to do the offer paperwork correctly. I guess having a good agent does make all the difference! I could go on about how they helped guide us through the inspections, loan info, and other buying milestones along the way. I could also tell you about the number of occasions when we thought everything was going smoothly and later found out they were weren't, but that having them on our side meant we didn't have to worry about it.
