She has had straight A's during that time, marking the first time anyone in my family has ever earned an A. She genuinely likes math and feels confident in it and even tutors some of her friends - and I can promise you none of that is coming from this home. She has done twice a week for 5 years and has never complained. You know kids. They complain about everything. But Mathnasium has been a home and she has been more than happy to get on the bus, or in the car and go spend time there. I want to add that Andre and Elliott have been fantastic. There are just those little days where something comes up, or your kid is sick, or you need some small adjustment to the schedule and they are so quick to pick up and help that it makes the entire experience easier.

Our…read moremiddle schoolers went from hating math to really liking it (will not go so far as to say they *love* it!) and they went from barely scraping by and failing to now doing consistently well on their math assignments and exams. Couldnʻt ask for more than that! I was looking for 1x week tutoring, but having them go 2x week was worth it and the results speak for themselves. The online scheduling is super convenient, communication by e-mail and phone was always quick and consistent.

My two daughters started to go to UpGrade since they were in elementary school. I love that the…read morecenter director has a systematic way planned out to focus on different writing types, one at a time, then to debate, then to publish their own story, then to college essay writing. They do group different grades of students together in a class, but it doesn't matter because students are of the same level. When my two daughters started, there were older kids in their classes but they didn't need to catch up ever. My younger daughter is now in 10th grade and she just finished the presidential debate project recently. My older one is now a college freshman in a university across the nation. She's a Posse Scholar with full tuition covered for all 4 years. She's also accepted to the UCs she applied including UCLA, UCB, UCSD, UCI. Writing has never been a struggle for her and I'd give credit to UpGrade for giving her a strong foundation!

I really wanted to like this learning center. The staffs/tutors there are very respectful, helpful,…read moreand friendly to the small children. They are mostly high school students. My kid really liked Shu Lin, but as a parent and our need for learning center is education. Reading & Math Subjects: are from an App that has reward points and your child can use that points to play game. You can purchase it at home. Most parents want the Writing subject, but they NEED to sign up for Reading & Math in order to sign up the Writing. For my 3rd grader, I felt this is fine because he has much to learn. It should be an option for student with strong Reading and Math skill. Writing class: 2hrs long with a small break. She's teaching grammars, definitions, descriptive words, sentence structures, and above all those, taking note (I really love this about the class). My biggest drawback: She has too many students in one class, all from different grade levels. 5th graders+ have much faster to learn concepts and this unfair to them or maybe unfair to 3rd graders. My 2nd biggest drawback: there is no feedbacks for their writing assignments. Feedback is most important for kids to learn. Overall I feel that she just jams all students in one writing to collect money. She obviously can divide the class base on their grade/age level throughout the week. I really hope Shu Lin can improve on these: feedbacks, class base on their grade/age, and give option to students base on their assessment test (also because she's teaching grammar in her writing class). As a parent, what degree you hold doesn't matter as long as you can teach with humble and kindness.

I looked around and found that PEL in San Francisco has a great program for him because they have a curriculum designed for kindergarteners which focuses on phonograms by the Spalding Method. His vocabulary and dictation have also expanded and he is very confident now with using new words. The unique method and individualized lesson plan at PEL work very well for him. I'm happy that he has displayed so much improvement in just 3 months. Nowadays, he is motivated to learn everyday and likes to say "I love the PEL program!". Enrolling my son in the PEL ELA program is one of the best decisions that I have made for his growth.

The JCC Helen Diller Preschool has not only been a wonderful place for my daughter, but for our…read moreentire family, as well. We were drawn to the school for so many reasons and here are just some that really stand out for us... It's an Emilio Reggio school with a phenomenal teaching staff and the director works diligently alongside parent volunteers to be sure that the teachers are consistently feeling as supported and appreciated as they make our children feel every day. There is a full time garden teacher, music teacher and art teacher who all have great expertise in fostering curiosity and appreciation for the beautiful world of nature, music and art and work with the children and alongside the classroom teachers to bring these amazing components to the kids. The school community feels like a home away from home. There are numerous ways parents can volunteer (which is completely optional) and be involved in the school community. My daughter started school in the height of the pandemic and the staff really thought outside the box in how to keep that feeling of community going. Now that we're past that, events and opportunities to come together as a community abound and really make us feel like we're living in a small town. Children do not need to be potty trained (let's just say this was VERY important to us ). The teachers really meet the kids where they are and gently encourage them to step outside their comfort zone to grow. I have personally learned so much from watching the teachers respect an individual child's own comfort level in any situation and think outside the box to ensure each child feels respected to be who they are. Yet through creating a safe space and gently encouraging growth, I have seen the children blossom into confident individuals and take such pride in their own achievements. My daughter will say things like, "mommy, I'm so proud! I believed in myself and I did it!" Logistics perk: drive through drop offs. I had a newborn at home when my daughter started preschool and I'm sure that every parent can relate - the drive through drop offs without needing to get the baby out of the car saved my sanity . Almost 2 years later, I still find the drive through drop off option to be an incredible, time saving perk. I still love to walk my daughter into school or go into the classroom to pick her up, but having the drive through option has been a game changer . The Pre-K program really prepares students for elementary school and the director, Karla, works alongside families to provide resources and guidance as they navigate the process of transitioning to elementary school. It's a place that instills the start of a lifelong love of learning and discovery.

We feel fortunate to be part of such a wonderful educational community. The academics are excellent. It is amazing to see and hear 3 year olds tell coherent stories, thanks to the way that arts and literature are integrated into the curriculum. My daughter has been going to the pre-school program, kindergarten, and is now in first grade. I'm delighted to see how she and her school mates are developing intellectually and artistically. It is also reassuring to see Waldorf School 8th graders that are smart, well adjusted, and do community work. The school doesn't feel or look like a factory, but is a pleasant, inviting place of learning and playing. If you see the interiors of the kindergartens alone, you'll be in awe. Feel free to sign up for a tour. The school is a strong community that supports each family that is part of it. I work full-time and feel very connected to the other families and the faculty. I also love the fact that my child will have the same class teacher from first through at least fifth grade (There are also other subject teachers throughout those years.) The teacher will really get to know the students and can guide their development tailored to their individual needs. I wish I was in first grade again at that school!

Due to some unfortunate events based on false allegations I was asked to leave the waldorf high school during my sophomore year.
