Be aware that there is a $50/per month cancellation fee when you withdraw from the program!!!! Be sure to take time and read the entire contract before you sign. Also, if the staff tells/promise you something different from the contract, ask her or him to write it down on the contract because when you cancel the contract, you will be charged whatever said on the contract. According to our children's experience at this center, they get bored studying there after about 4-5 months or so. We pushed our children a bit to a point where we couldn't do it anymore. Both of our children are advanced in math. Both have been with Kumon for couple years. They choose to continue with Kumon and drop the study from this center. Updated: Forgot to mention, be sure to check out the assessment fee (we were charged $150) before you schedule the assessment appointment for your children. Our twins have been going to Mathnasium of Mira Mesa for several years. We started in elementary school and are finishing up in middle school. They have learned so much. The owner, Archi Kapoor, is very helpful and attentive to our kids' needs. She's been with us since the beginning supporting us and encouraging our kids to want to work harder. When the isolation started Archi immediately got the instruction on line. We are able to work through glitches and if we need an appointment at the last minute a phone call will get us immediate assistance. This is a great place to go for math tutoring. The program was a good fit for my daughter. She is a freshman in high school; during the initial consultation, the manager (Andrew) mentioned they knew which teachers taught the course at her school and even had the textbook on hand. The assessment accurately identified what her problem areas were, so we signed up. She's been there a couple of weeks and is seeing progress. I don't have to hound her to go, as she really wants to do better in the class. She likes the format (1 teacher per 3-4 kids at a communal table), which gives her time in the first 30 minutes of each 90-minute session to work on foundation material (like IM 1), then the latter 60 minutes to work on current material as well as the assigned homework. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Location, access, and parking are all good. read more

Ms. Archi and the rest of her team here at Mathnasium are amazing!! My son has been going here for a month now and he and I both see a HUGE, HUGE improvement!! Math was always the subject that he struggled in and now, he is confident about math, loves math and enjoys working with the tutors every week. The way that math is taught here is presented in a way that my son understands much better than what is presented to him at school. Our 10yr old son started coming here this summer to pick up his performance in math, and was none too thrilled at having to do math during summer break and at least twice a week. However, last week he surprised us with a note that he left us on the back to school night two weeks into the school year, that read: "By the way, math is east for me, thanks to math on Tuesdays and Thursdays". We were floored! He still grumbles when he has to come here at times, but gets engaged once here and admits that it is actually very helpful. Ok- so my son Nicky has been going to Mathnasium for over 2 yrs. He is a sophomore but his math skills we grades lower. Archi and her staff has worked with Nicky to close the gaps. I just met with his teachers and councelors at srhs and with Nicky's motivation and hard work, a 10 grade math class. It is hard, but he has regained some/not all of his basic skills to help him succeed in the classroom. We are going to continue to focus on the gaps as they present themselves in his current work. And in the summer attempt to really focus on what's left... I'm so proud of Nicky! And thankful to Mathnasium for working with my family. This Mathnasium location has got to be the best in San Diego. Since attending, my child's math test scores have improved dramatically. She started out with a 67% on her first test, then a 75%, and just today she brought home her most recent test and she earned an 85%!!! She's only been attending Mathnasium for three weeks! They have made such a tremendous difference in the way she's learning math, practicing math and thinking about math. To say that the tutors are highly skilled is an understatement. Not only are they great at conveying math concepts to young learners, they are also great at making the learning accessible via games, healthy challenges, and visual models. Mrs. Aarchi, the director is warm, friendly, knowledgeable and know her staff as well as the students attending Mathnasium very well! I think any place that can get your kid to practice math will greatly help improve your kid's math skills. Math is a bit like swimming - put in the mileage and you will get better. The problem is when a kid is struggling, they start to not want to do math. Hence, a place like Mathnasium which can help a student "get" math. So I really really wanted to like Mathnasium and truth be told, I was already sold before I went to visit with my two kids. But the approach they have toward selling parents the program turned me off. I wish I could get past that but I can't so I'll move on to some other program or more likely, attempt to coach my own kid. One thing that I learned from taking the assessment test there was that my 5th grader could use more practice and confidence in multiplication and division. Previously at home we had been working on fractions. Now I'm going to step back and make sure he's comfortable with basic arithmetic before moving forward again. So it was a good visit for me in that respect. It did irk me a bit that it was $99 per kid for the assessment and she didn't mention that over the phone when she talked about it. It wasn't until I was there with my kids and she had finished her pitch about her place that she said, "So, you want to take the assessment?" and I said "Sure, the kids should be assessed." that she said, "It'll be 99 dollars each. Usually it's $199." And then she had me sign this paper that I later realized was a paper agreeing to recurring charges on my credit card. What?! I hadn't even agreed to signing up for the program. When I pointed it out to her she said it wouldn't apply until I had signed up for the plan. Which is good because otherwise it'd be illegal obviously. But it was yet another way they tripped my radar with regards to their focus on sales and money. Okay, that's fine. I'll pay them to use the tool that really is a selling tool for them. Then, when they took the test and she showed me the result, she at first didn't want to give me any paper from the result. I had to exclaim, "What? I just paid 200 bucks and you aren't going to give me their results?!" So she gave me their high level results but told me everything is proprietary and not to show anyone. Don't worry, I have no interest in sharing my kids' results with anyone. I am just interested in knowing where my kids need help! She said neither test, nor the lesson plan can be given to me. I don't like that but fine, I can see they are a business and need to keep their tests to themselves or else people can just use it themselves and save $99. But honestly, there are many sites on the internet that can assess your child. It's not a complicated test but just a pencil and paper one hour test. And I guess that's where it all boils down to what I don't like. It's too "proprietary" a place. You can't take the assessment test home - proprietary. You can't record or take a picture of their price chart - proprietary. Once you sign up, you can't take home the binder or the worksheets the kids have done at the place - proprietary. When I said I would take a picture of their pricing chart and she snatched it away saying she can't let me do that. That makes no sense to me. I won't remember the prices without recording it somehow. And it's not posted on their website. Once again, the secrecy and proprietary-ness of the business just turned me off. In case you're wondering, cost is approx 250-300 per month depending on the plan you sign up for. So while the tutors looked good, the place looked pleasant and the kids looked like they were having a fun or decent time being there, I ultimately couldn't get past the issues I had above with the center and Archi although I don't totally blame her, it's probably just how this place is set up nationwide. So 3 stars from me since that's A-OK according to Yelp. I'm not a fan (4 stars) and I don't think this is as good as it gets (5 stars). I think those who don't have issues with the proprietary-ness and the sales approach of the place and have a child in serious need of math support will do well with a place like this. Meanwhile, since visiting this place, I have been coaching and having my son do progressive worksheets in math from addition on up and it's working so far for us. He has a much better attitude than before when I was coaching him on fractions because I think I finally started at a skill level he felt comfortable with and we can build on. Also, for those fellow parents looking for helpful programs online, I heard of a website called beestar.org that I hear is a good supplemental math program and it's free for math. And on amazon search "kindle math" for some freebies. I don't regret visiting this place nor spending the $198 to get the kids assessed. I am glad to know what's out there. My daughter has attended Mathnasium for 11 months. At first it was a little bit of a struggle to get her to participate, but now she goes and actually enjoys her time there. My daughter has been going to Mathnasium since the start of summer 2015. Archi is really attentive to my daughter's need and willing to accommodate whatever she wants to learn. She also contacted her middle school teacher to get reference as to how my daughter was doing and what she can help my daughter with. If I request something from her or from any of the teachers they immediately implemented for my daughter right away. She will review the course and make sure my daughter is on track and make my daughter responsible/owner for her learning the material. At the end of the session my daughter will write down what she has learned for the day. What is nice about this program in the summer is there are no homework so she comes to the course enjoying her learning and not feeling like there will be more work when she goes home. This learning process is more enjoyable for her and I am happy with how Archi's program has been doing for my daughter. She does not leave this place unless her work is at 100% correct! read more

We just moved here from Italy ( we are military) my daughter was going to the schools out in town. (She's a 4th grader) Italian math is way more advanced than American math. But when we moved back and put her in an American school she struggled in math saying it was way different. it turned into an nightmare my confident daughter that was fluent in Italian and English. Could read, write, speak and understand Italian was very proud of school and work. Now saying she can't do it. Even though I argued with her saying it's 1st grade work. She'd still come home with F in math. I finally realized the school out here taught them differently and though she got the answer right she didn't do it their way. They call it common core. So as I started talking to the Italian teachers ( from her school in Italy) of this new way they never heard teaching math this way. Said it's way more complicated. As I struggled ( still am) to try to learn on u-tube my straight A-B daughter was getting F in math. Her love for math has vanished her confidence in school love for school has vanished. I was desperate I found Mathnasium. They welcomed us with open arms. She went for a week she got a passing grade for the first time being stateside in math!! She's been there for 3 weeks now and loves going and loves math again. I was so surprised how much they have turned my child around in such little time. They are amazing!
