WOW! What a difference a summer at Mathnasium can make! My rising fourth grader attended 25 sessions and, in that time, she went from being a kid who wasn't sure she liked math very much to being a kid who considers math to be one of her favorite subjects. This school year, we've seen a huge difference in her confidence level as she can now can zip through problems with ease. It's made doing homework after school so much easier. Some days she doesn't have math homework at all because she can finish it before the end of the day (which never happened before Mathnasium). All of this is thanks to the fantastic Mathnasium team. They were incredibly helpful and supportive and customized a plan that was specific to the areas she needed to work on. They have a fun prize system that was very motivating as well. We've been going to Mathnasium with our third grader since Fall 2021. We went with hopes of him becoming confident in math. He also wasn't really enjoying math and it seemed like he dreaded doing extra learning/work. He didn't dislike math - but he also didn't get excited about it. We didn't realize he was a little bit more behind in math than we thought from multiple factors including the pandemic, his learning style, and the manner in which common core math is taught. Here are some things we love about Mathnasium La Jolla. He is really solidifying his math skills - from the ones which he didn't quite master in second grade, the ones that just weren't even covered in pandemic first and second grade, but should have been (this took about 4 months to catch up), and moving onto in depth mastery of his current third grade material. The material covered and the way it is taught works so well for him. He is getting a lot of positive reinforcement from his work, as well as getting real time help/feedback on errors. He takes pride in the amount of work he has finished and when he has advanced to the next level. We also like receiving the written feedback from the instructors so we can see what is happening and reinforce his work. The center sets up an environment conducive to learning and focusing. We are often amazed that he is able to continue focusing on Math after a long school day including assessments. The schedule is very flexible and easy to manage. We are thankful that the center stays open in the evenings, on Saturdays, and many holidays. There are very few days that they are closed. Karen, Todd and the tutors are dedicated to the kids' success. We love that the work is done when it's done and there is not additional homework to bring home. Yes, it also takes some organization and investment on parents' part to schedule the sessions and work in the extra 10 hours a month. We have found it well worth it. We started sending our daughter here this last December, because she was having quite a bit of difficulty in math. Her teacher had spoken to us about some concerns she had. We were also noticing that helping her with her math homework at home was a very stressful experience, for both my husband and I as well as our daughter. We finally decided to seek some additional support and came across Mathnasium. All I can say is that this has been one of the absolute best decisions we have made. We have nothing but great things to say. In the last 5 months, we have noticed quite a significant improvement in her math. Just last week, our daughter's teacher commented that she used to be concerned about how she was doing in math and now has absolutely no concerns whatsoever. Mathnasium is without a doubt the best/most beneficial activity we've enrolled our daughter in. She has spent two summers going in and now goes three times a week during the school week. In the beginning we felt that she was going to play catch up and practice her skills during the summer months. Now she is able to do her homework there and is gaining enough traction to move her grade level skillset forward. The center really has a good thing going. Rather than dreading having to go do math, our daughter looks forward to it. Everything is highly incentivized, so kids get stamps for completing work and stamps = prizes. Whenever they "master" a test, they get to spin the wheel and get a prize that way as well. These methods keep our daughter motivated and excited to continue working. As a parent who has done the struggle with common core concepts at home and dealt with math meltdowns at homework time, I can say that Mathnasium has changed the game for us and I would recommend it 100%. read more

Mathnasium helped my son tremendously with his math for a year in middle school and a semester in high school. What I found most helpful is the assessment test he took at the beginning of the program where they found out the gaps in his learning which is so important in math since most of the concepts build on each other. My son started struggling in math in eighth grade due to many factors so after weighing different choices, we decided on Mathnasium over a private tutor. The main reason was for the assessment and to work on his gaps in math which would be important for him to move forward. He was getting a C in his eighth grade math but after the combination of helping him with some foundational concepts and also his homework, he was able to earn an B. In his freshman year of high school he continued to do well in math. Then his second semester of sophomore year he struggled again because his teacher wasn't teaching her students well. Back to Mathnasium. He had to take the assessment again which my son didn't like but it helped to get a baseline again. This time he was able to pull his B to an A. My son appreciated the hands on help. When he went to the center to receive tutoring, they gave him time to work on problems on his own but gave him help when he needed it. Also, since my son is an extrovert, he did like meeting the different tutors. When COVID 19 hit, It took about a week or two for Mathnasium to transition online. Once that happened, the online tutoring went well and they were able to keep their style of tutoring so my son was able to continue receiving the help he needed. So for their tuition, I wish they had a monthly fee. They had a 3 month, 6 month, or 12 month option. I will say that they were quite accommodating when everything went online and we lost some sessions during the transition. They were very good at returning email. Overall, I am thankful for the help Mathnasium had given to fill in the gaps, help my son with his math class, and build his confidence with the subject. read more
