My review for Sylvan is mainly negative. I think the big problem is that the lady who sold us on…read morethe program set forth high expectations on their part and kind of set us up for failure. Plus we spent over $3000. Ouch! First off, my daughter only tested having difficulties in reading. She was actually coming in at early first grade in math on their assessment. Tutoring was only recommended for reading because of this. We continued to work on math at home, but when we got her beginning year assessment it says she is significantly behind and failing to meet benchmark expectations. Uh, what's wrong with your assessment? Then for reading, we were guaranteed that she would be reading fluently by the end of the summer; we asked what we should do to assist the process, they said absolutely nothing. We were told that all the work would occur at Sylvan. I asked again because this sounded too good to be true. flash forward to 2 weeks after discontinuing Sylvan after 3 months of tutoring sessions and her progress report in reading from school is hideous, she is not even marked as progressing toward benchmark, but substantially behind. The reason I partially blame them is because if we had also worked with her at home using their strategies, she probably would have progressed further. Also, do not make promises or guarantees you can't keep. She is in our eyes doing better (sounds out phonemes better), hence the 2 versus 1 star, but definitely not what we expected.

My sister was enrolled…read morefor tutoring in December for help with finals and went to one session and the teacher didn't know anything about her math because her math was "too advanced". The owner John Wheeler, said that the teacher is certified but that the math was too advanced (which is not our problem). We have been trying to get a refund since January and he's been giving us the run around because he took $300 for nothing. No services were provided except for the one session and the teacher didn't know the math. He's very unprofessional and I would no recommend this location to anyone. He also threatened that if I posted a review he would reply claiming what I was saying was not true. This is him agreeing that the math was too advanced for my sister which proves services weren't provided. This is also him reaching out after tutoring was needed in December, offering an online session because his "college teacher" was not back in town, which is not what we wanted and was not helpful.
