Update: I can assure you that I met with you in your office while you were selling your plan. You…read morestated that public education was doing a disservice to our children and it didn't help that public schools had to cater to non-native speakers. Obviously we bought into what you were selling but it didn't work out for us. Maybe the system works for others but people should know it doesn't work for everyone. Very expensive and did little to improve my children's test scores. It is a very old school prescribed box method of teaching and doesn't take individual into account. Will not do well for those with learning difficulties. Also owner spoke very negatively about public education and immigrants and foreigners. Better off spending your money on a private tutor.

We made an appointment for an assessment for the two boys (5th and 6th grades). After the thorough assessment, we had a wonderful meeting with Tommy who explained the results to us and recommendations. My boys had their first session today. I may have cried when they called me with excitement! They both felt they learned a lot and "even had fun!!" Best investment ever!

We went in Aug 2012 and spoke to the director of the Chester, VA office and eventually signed up my…read more12 year old son to a 90hr program utilizing an interest free loan. We were told that unused hours will be refunded with no issues. The program seemed to be OK and my son's handwriting did improve. I had several meetings with the director and said my son was coming out saying he had learned nothing and they just gave him worksheets. I knew ahead of time it was not 1-1 tutoring. The one time he was in there on his own and received 1-1 tutoring he had a great time. Otherwise he said it was just an extension of normal school. I was new to tutoring and probably should have done some more research ahead of time. A couple of month later we signed up our 17 year old daughter for some 1-1 SAT tutoring. The tutoring was OK but she was not comfortable with the tutor so she asked for another. The 2nd tutor and her worked well. In Nov 2012 daughter went into the office for a 2 hour session. For the 1-1 tutoring they are in a side room off the main open space middle room. Turns out her current tutor was absent and she ended up with her original tutor who she had asked to be replaced. The tutor subjected my daughter to nearly 2hrs of verbal abuse about how she had complained about him. She was crying nearly the whole time and he kept asking what was wrong with her and she obviously had medical and mental problems and then continued with the verbal abuse. Unfortunately, she is not the sort of child who would just walk out and thought she had done something wrong. She sat there rooted to the spot. A female staff member popped her head in and asked if everything was OK and daughter just nodded. She was scared and did not know what to do. The female staff member just walked off. Daughter came home totally distraught. Told us about it and we went straight to the Chester office. Fortunately, the male tutor had left. We spoke with the Director who had obviously been brief that something had occurred. I asked her why, an establishment dealing with children, had NO policy in place to extract a child from such a situation and ask them privately what is wrong. You do not ask in front of someone who is causing distress. We asked that she investigate the issue and report back to us what happened and what they plan to do with training their staff in dealing with such issue. We also wanted to ensure this tutor was not allowed to work with children at their company again. A few weeks went by and she called and said they had tracked down the tutor and he had checked himself into rehab. That was it. Nothing more. He may still be working there for all we know. Since there was no further communication on the issue, we decided to pull my son out and in mid Feb I sent a letter asking for the unused hours to be refunded to the loan. Mid March I called since nothing had been received. I called the director whom was not keen on talking to me and I asked where the refund was. She said she had processed it and it was done and I should get it any time. I received nothing, and so I left a voice mail at end of March. I posted on the FB page and followed up with another letter mid April. I then got a call from the owner of the company (franchise). I told him all about the issues above and he was generally concerned and in the dark about it all. He apologized and asked what he could do for me. I said I just wanted my money refunded. He said sure, he will get straight on it and call me back soon. Two weeks later and nothing. I called and left a vm. On the 3rd week I get a call from the owner. He does not understand why I wanted a call back despite telling me in the previous call that he would keep me updated. I said I had heard nothing and after everything that has happened, I have no faith that anything is being progressed. He told me he said he would refund the money and would do so. He tells me that it will be 10 from this call and that piece is outside of his control. It's had been 15 business days since we first spoke and now there is another 10 business days? He tells me that he is doing me a favor by processing the refund so quickly and it would normally be 3mths. I told him I started the process in mid Feb, something he continued to brush aside. I ask why does it take 3mths to issue a refund. He said that is policy. Forgetting the absurdity of 3mths to refund money, I said NO ONE told me that. The owner then said that 'I did not need to know that information". I kid you not, he was telling me I did not need to know they had a 3mth refund policy. After that, I lost it and explained again that I started the refund process in mid Feb. That the director at Chester had told me mid March it has been processed and done. That I had spent so much time on this. It was all for nothing though. The owner is more for talking than listening. Several times he interrupted me or talked over me. I eventually received my refund on 5/16/2013.
