We're approaching our 1 year anniversary with Mathnasium. In a desperate attempt to support our struggling freshman in high school, I found Mathnasium. He was significantly behind throughout middle School math- school diagnostic tests never showed improvement and math homework was a nebulous task. After a year at Mathnasium, he's improved 3 grade levels at the middle of the year mark, and finally another 2 grade levels by the end of his freshman year which placed him "at grade level". This experience has exceeded our expectations and I cry thinking about how much he dreaded math just a year ago. We are hopeful he will continue to grow with the support of Mathnasium. This review is based on the assessment process. We felt that my child needed a bit more challenge than what school could provide so we headed to get a free assessment. The director here was approachable and well-versed in CA math standards and the progression for each grade level. He showed me the results and the organized plan to provide more opportunities for growth and challenge. I was wondering how my child would react at the prospect of a summer of weekly math lessons, but they have a big wheel to spin to earn prizes and seem to try to keep the students engaged and working toward goals and incentives. read more

We started mathnasium early 2020. At first I wasn't thrilled at how many students were in the center at one time. I didn't think my daughter was going to benefit. Oh boy was I wrong! She went from hating math to getting a basic understanding of what her studies were about. I appreciated the time Xavier and Jenny and their team were taking in going back to the basics and building a foundation for my child to build on. Now that we are back from a brief interruption (thank you COVID!) her desire to do math has grown. She's now understanding her homework better and excelling in her class. It's a reflection on both my child and the center. As a parent I appreciate the proactiveness the staff is taking in having my child excel. They are never shy to tell me how she is doing. They are great in encouraging her to do more not just in math, but in helping build her confidence. We just started Mathnasium in Sept 2020. After Covid...I felt my boys were not getting enough thru DL...I wanted more...I wanted them to be challenged. The staff at Mathnasium are super friendly and my boys have found it very engaging. We also do Kumon. We have done it for years. Mathnasium is different...there is more interaction. What's the best thing you can do for your child? To provide the best education. How do you do that? Private boarding school? Super expensive private school with all the per pay add-ons? Both parents take an extra job and move to an expensive neighborhood (nix that; I've taught at Arcadia & Claremont - people in $1.6+mil homes do not send their kids to local public schools to be corrupted by common kids, and they have power and influence to minimize education taxes - I've never seen such poor schools)? I'm a district administrator and my wife is a classroom teacher. We've looked at all the options. Bang for buck, (as long as your kid can read well, which is the single most important skill) there's nothing that will get your child into the best universities than strong math skills. The discipline, neuro patterns and behaviors that math promotes carry over into nearly all AP high school classes, and various STEM programs. Even if they want to go into the arts as a major, you will want them to get math out of their way. What do I mean? Think back through all your years of grade school. What subject did you hate the most. What most often caused you to hate school? For 98% of us, it was MATH. Its hard. And there's no way to get around it. One pre-requisite layered on top of another, and then at the high school level, it affects your enrollment into Chem, Physics, Stats, etc. Having confident math skills allows the child to not worry about math class, and instead enjoy and do well in other subjects; Lang Arts, Social Studies and Science. Kids good at math love school and look forward to college. They end up with boyfriends/girlfriends that enjoy school and look forward to college. Need I say more? Is there something in the area that's better and less costly than Mathnasium Monterey Park? If there is, please share. The location is hard to get to from anywhere, the traffic patterns and parking is horrible, just horrible, and the price - its like paying for a 12 day Mediterranean cruise, every year. My kids are like everyone else, maybe a small notch up from average. But its been 3 years, they not only have straight A's, they score at the very, very top of state tests each year we've been going to Mathnasium Mont.Pk. (okay they each missed one one or two questions on the online SBAC exam, I'm okay with that, they are happy). Its middle school and we don't stress over homework or tests at home. They read for enjoyment. They are relaxed on weeknights. Middle of the week, we go out to eat and enjoy each other. We only do Mathnasium and the rest takes care of itself. Mathnasium is the best!!!!!! Start to look at this center when they just opened about 1-2 years ago (Not sure :) ) Bon and his staff was really helpful and smart especially Richard. We came in the end of 2012 and made the right decision. My kids is behind and they create custom learning plan based on their math level I like it that my kid has better understanding in math and NOT AFRAID of MATH anymore since they explain it in the fun way. He always wants to come to the center but unfortunately we move to Vegas now. In the beginning I thought the price was so high but after what Elliot accomplish and be better in math WOW its really worth it of my money. I highly recommend this location. The staff here is kind and attentive to my children's learning needs. The owner, Xavier, is very responsive and was able to accommodate our busy, work, school and elective schedules. I signed-up my children for Mathnasium in June, after learning about it through a friend. What I had intended to be just a two-month, Summer program, has continued through the new school year. I didn't think my children would enjoy doing math online for an hour, but they are having fun. If your child is struggling with Math or simply wants to sharpen their math skills, I highly recommend Mathnasium of Monterey Park. My 12 year old daughter has been with Mathnasium for over a year now, both pre and post pandemic. She raised her grad from a D in math to a solid B by the end of the first semester, and ended up with an A at the end of her second semester. The transition into post-COVID tutoring has been surprisingly easy for my daughter. The team at Mathnasium is open to suggestions and communication from parents to better adjust the material for each student. The goal has been to provide the students with a well rounded knowledge and practice of math foundations so that they themselves can begin about thinking and solving math problems as they advance. I enrolled my daughter during rhe summer for 1 month only and all I can say is that im glad I did. She went from feeling unsure about her math to becoming more confident. I recently went to a parent teaxher conference and her teacher says she is doing well in math. If I am able to re enroll her again in the future I will. Mathnasium has helped my daughter with her math foundation in ways I never knew possible. She started going a year ago when I noticed her self esteem plummeting and I knew I had to do something. She was assessed and I was floored that she was missing so many basic skills after coming out of a charter school which was just too overwhelming with long days and curriculum and concepts being rushed down her throat that she actually never grasped the basics. The staff at Mathnasium are so supportive and they walk the fine balance of showing concern if you miss yet understanding of students other activities and family life. Michelle is exceptional with her patience and her tender encouraging attitude. All of the tutors are wonderful at this location.I have no complaints as of yet and I have been there a year . As a Mom I can tell you that my daughter's self esteem in Math went from 0 to 100 in one year. I actually see my daughter doing her homework independently and she now connects the mathematical dots and is able to work without shutting down .No more tears and wet homework. Yay. She takes her time to get the answer but she is understanding what she is doing which is the ultimate goal in Math- computing and understanding. I am here for the long haul in Mathnasium and although it is not cheap for our family it is worth every penny when I see her feeling so accomplished and happy.
