He was significantly behind throughout middle School math- school diagnostic tests never showed improvement and math homework was a nebulous task. After a year at Mathnasium, he's improved 3 grade levels at the middle of the year mark, and finally another 2 grade levels by the end of his freshman year which placed him "at grade level". This experience has exceeded our expectations and I cry thinking about how much he dreaded math just a year ago. We are hopeful he will continue to grow with the support of Mathnasium. I was able to witness her reading majority of the words from the sentence for the first time. When…read moreour older was struggling in math last year, the excellent tutors helped her master the skills she needed to succeed, not just for that class, but for the rest of her life. She is getting an A in math this year, but without Mathnasium's help. This, to me, is a testament to the fact that the tutors help students not just with their homework, but they teach students how to approach challenges and learn material on their own. I attribute a large part of this center's success to its director, Andrew Molina. Andrew is exceptionally kind and understanding, and the kids relate to him well. He obviously maintains high standards for the tutors, because every tutor we have interacted with has been professional and friendly. Let's be honest, not all parents have the patience (or the teaching style) to effectively work with their own child, especially after a long day. There were tears on his end... and sometimes on mine too. Since enrolling him, his confidence in math has grown tremendously. He actually enjoys learning, understands the concepts better, and no longer dreads math. Just as importantly, the pressure on me as a parent has significantly decreased. What really speaks volumes is that my other son saw how much his brother enjoyed going and asked to join as well. I was hesitant at first, but I eventually enrolled him too! And... I'm so glad I did. She helped us get in to several of the best and top rated private schools in the state of Hawaii. She then prepared us to be academically ready for the private school curriculum, and even now, we are doing remote tutoring 3X a week and my son is really excelling. He received high honors (3.74 GPA) on his first report card in middle school n before that was just a B level student. This school pushes challenging academics and they really make their students earn their grades. We would never have been prepared for this type of curriculum had we not been constantly receiving enrichment from Elevate. I've told Serena that I was willing to pay full price even though we are totally remote and still it is so worth it. She's accommodating and extremely organized with scheduling while working so hard to advocate for both of my kids. Don't get me wrong, we have found a handful of really excellent tutors to work with us in person while we are in Hawaii. However none of them offer the services that Serena does, STEM classes, coding classes, book clubs, contests, pre-k tutoring, and she even worked to throw a private party for my son.... as that is what he wanted. We are never leaving as long as my kids are enrolled in school.
