    Enjoying time with friends
    Angelica G.

Well been here before with my friend her family and my kids but it had been more then 6 years ago. It was nice relaxing just enjoying the cold beer my bff and music and most important the ocean. It doesn't take much for this city girl to enjoy the ocean. We didn't go in the water it was restricted at that time but still had fun and will not wait 6 years to go back. Kinda put extra pictures but all in the same town. Thanks for reading

Clean sand bar area, covered with water when the tide is high

We enjoyed our time at the decently maintained Matagorda Beach, for the most part pretty clean beach area with zero seaweed, a lot of seashells and a little amount of litter that we helped clean up. The water here was as expected because of the Colorado river, good ole muddy Gorda! Easy, short trip down to the coast and will be back.

We really enjoyed our visit to the very clean and obviously maintained Matagorda Public Beach. Dallas girls gotta get their feet wet when we come to the coast, so we headed down for lunch and some shelling in Matagorda during our short trip to Bay City. We came on the Friday before Memorial Day, but the beach was not crowded at all and we were able to find our fill of treasures from the sea, including rare finds like sea beans and whole snail shells. 5 beautiful beachy stars

The beach has a lot of sea shells to collect so bring a bag. It's cool you can drive onto the beach and park on the beach. My only concern is a lot of plastic waste and pollution on the beach. People pollute and don't pick up after themselves. It's a nice beach. It's about a 1.5 to 2 hour drive from Houston. Bring food and have a picnic. Check it out!

We had a blast beach camping a few years ago in corpus Christi that we wanted to replicate the experience, so we found this hidden treasure called matagorda beach. Only 2 short hours away from Houston, this beach is the perfect place for a weekend getaway. It's quiet and isolated which I really like so there's plenty of room for you and your family. There are showers nearby (the outside no privacy kind) and restrooms they are well maintained (I saw the guy cleaning). Nearby, you can go fishing or crabbing. We drove up onto the beach and set up our tents and our grills. During the day we played on the sand. There are signs that say no swimming (I guess because of dangerous currents) but we mostly hung close to shore in the water. I did see some ppl swimming but they stayed relatively close and I guess they do so at their own risk (of death or of fine). I actually wouldn't recommend swimming because there are tons of jellyfish. I saw a few wash up. Also, the beach is not the cleanest. At night, we built fire in the sand and roasted marshmallows. We slept under the stars and some of us in tents or in our cars. Some of our neighbors nearby even bought fireworks. It's very nice isolated lonely place if you just want your space and privacy to party with your peeps. I'd say for any place like this where you're free to enjoy yourself, do behave responsibly. Tips: 1. Do bring insect repellant. If you're walking to the washrooms at night you have to go through a field of tall grass that's the breeding ground of mosquitos. I was attacked viciously. 2. A canopy tent is really nice especially under the hot hot sun.

long island beach reminding me a lot of port aransas, with GREAT shelling. all of the other beaches within a good radius are in the bay so you dont get the good big waves, shells, etc. the beach wasn't crowded at all which made it that much better, yes its a wednesday but it is summertime so we expected more people to be there but i think its a "texas secret" and not many people know about it. there were so many shells i was overwhelmed, you can barely walk without stepping on them! the waves were great, awesome for boogie boarding possibly even surfing. the water looks really dirty, but thats texas beaches for you.

One of the cleanest Texas beach. This is a great place to enjoy the surf. Not over crowded and a great place to catch fish.

Lovely Texas coast beach. Quieter then Galveston. Lots of wild life. My son loves the tide pools and all the shells

Waters are very murky and it was dead blue jellyfish everywhere. Tide was very high coming in, never seen the water so close to the cars. But I wouldn't dare drive a car on that sand. I see people get stuck all the time. It's regular parking at the entrance tho. I love how clean it is and they passed out trash bags to each car. New (not fun) fact... it's rattle snakes at surf side.

This is very dog friendly and you can pull your car right up to the beach. You do have to keep your dogs on a leash as there are people circling to make sure that you do. I just bring a really long leash for them to be able to run around. My dogs like to run into the water so i have a long leash. Only downside is they don't have really plush sand. So if you go to the beach for the fluffy sand, this is not the place to go. But if you want no nonsense hassle or you don't have to carry all of your stuff miles to the beach just to find a good spot then you would like this beach. Note: there is free parking but we just ended up paying the $15 a day parking because we can pull right up on the beach. They do have an annual option to pay $30 for the whole year which I do think it's worth it if you go more than a couple times a year.

Bryan Beach is a long stretch of sand in Brazoria County along the coast starting southwest of the…read moreQuintana pier and ending at the Brazos river mouth. For decades, it was an unincorporated part of the county with no local government or emergency services. It was a free, barren, no-man's land. It was a semblance of the Wild West and, we liked it that way! Nowadays, I believed it's been annexed by the Port of Freeport. Bryan Beach is a lot of different things. It's possibly the ugliest beach in the world. Definitely, the ugliest in Texas. At the same time, it can reveal great beauty (mostly when the lights are off). It's a quickly eroding coastline, barely able to drive on or pitch a tent on. Fishing is great. Of course, you might want to catch and release as the river mouth passes a terrifying amount of pesticides, fertilizers, and God knows what else. Rip currents and an abundance of sharks make swimming dangerous. There's also sometimes dangerous people there. It's really a blank canvas. You can make it whatever you want. I've had incredible beach parties there in the past. Huge bonfires, cooking up dinner, camping out, insane amounts of alcohol.... With the right group, you can have the time of your life there. Maybe it's a weird portal to another dimension. Who knows? Bryan Beach is what you make it.
