Pros: In classic Texas beach fashion you drive on the beach. I know this is outrageous to some but welcome to Texas. This beach attracts all kinds of people. I love diversity. What is remarkable about the beach is the ability to camp for 14DAYS! No fees, nada. There did not seem to be any hook ups or sewer so... But people had generators and there are public bathrooms and outdoor showers. The sunsets are nice. I was there the day before 4th of July, it was crowded but not out of control. The people showed up and showed out. There were some real hard core BBQers. I mean restaurant level set ups! There are some venders and beach house rentals but most came to camp. Mid way down the shore line the beach stops the drive up and has a parking lot so the shoreline is free of cars, much safer. There are covered picnic areas, looks like first come first serve. Overall, I would return. It must be real peaceful on non-holiday height of summer days. See you in September Magnolia Beach!

Patti, the owner, personally rushed to clean up one of the lovely cabins for me, which wouldn't normally have been available as guests had just checked out after the Fourth of July weekend. I wanted to come here for a little writing retreat because of the chill vibe I'd heard about--small fishing town, beautiful beach and nature, friendly people, not super touristy. (As much as my family loves Port Aransas the vibe in the summer is anything but chill.) The neighborhood where the cabins are is the kind of place where everyone waves as you're passing each other on the road. There are some beautiful cows across the street that came RUNNING to greet my dog and me, miniature horses, lots of birds, chickens, and a cat or two roaming around. The cabin is super comfortable in every way, with multiple places to work on my laptop (porch, dining table, couch, chairs on the porch, bed) and even in the heat of summer it's been cool and comfortable with multiple air conditioners and ceiling fans. I love that JBB is family-owned and operated, and Patti is just one of the best people you'll ever meet.

This is very dog friendly and you can pull your car right up to the beach. You do have to keep your dogs on a leash as there are people circling to make sure that you do. I just bring a really long leash for them to be able to run around. My dogs like to run into the water so i have a long leash. Only downside is they don't have really plush sand. So if you go to the beach for the fluffy sand, this is not the place to go. But if you want no nonsense hassle or you don't have to carry all of your stuff miles to the beach just to find a good spot then you would like this beach. Note: there is free parking but we just ended up paying the $15 a day parking because we can pull right up on the beach. They do have an annual option to pay $30 for the whole year which I do think it's worth it if you go more than a couple times a year.

The parking was free, which I heard it is usually during the week, it's conveniently located near the beach. It is quite small, so I'm assuming it packs up very quick but luckily we got there early and there was not a lot of people. The beach itself was very clean and peaceful. There was even kids in there fishing. Coming from California we were very surprised to see that the water was warm. We are most definitely coming back.

For decades, it was an unincorporated part of the county with no local government or emergency services. It was a free, barren, no-man's land. It was a semblance of the Wild West and, we liked it that way! Nowadays, I believed it's been annexed by the Port of Freeport. Bryan Beach is a lot of different things. It's possibly the ugliest beach in the world. Definitely, the ugliest in Texas. At the same time, it can reveal great beauty (mostly when the lights are off). It's a quickly eroding coastline, barely able to drive on or pitch a tent on. Fishing is great. Of course, you might want to catch and release as the river mouth passes a terrifying amount of pesticides, fertilizers, and God knows what else. Rip currents and an abundance of sharks make swimming dangerous. There's also sometimes dangerous people there. It's really a blank canvas. You can make it whatever you want. I've had incredible beach parties there in the past. Huge bonfires, cooking up dinner, camping out, insane amounts of alcohol.... With the right group, you can have the time of your life there. Maybe it's a weird portal to another dimension. Who knows? Bryan Beach is what you make it.
