My son is right between sizes, so we asked if they could size him so we had a better idea of what would work best. We were told that there were sizing tools at most benches and to ask for help if we needed it. Dude. That is what we are doing. He walked off before the shock wore off. We did find a tool, sized my son, then found another employee for shoes in his size. He pushed a few buttons on a handheld he had and told us they didn't have it in stock then started to walk away. We stopped him and asked for another shoe in his size. Again he pushed buttons on his handheld with the same answer. He again tried to walk away. So we then asked if any shoe on the table we were looking at came in his size. He rolled his eyes at us before pushing buttons on his handheld. Yup. Rolled. His. Eyes. My son needed new shoes so just looked at shoes instead of using my big girl words about that behavior. Anyway... He found a shoe in my son's size and luckily my son liked them. We boxed up the shoes and went to the counter in the shoe area where two different employees were talking to pay. Set the box down and said we wanted the shoes. They both look at us like we are crazy before one stated "well, you have to pay for them before leaving with them." Pretty sure my attitude came out when I responded with "that is why my wallet is out." With just as much snark, we were told we have to pay up front. The experience had my blood boiling. We were there maybe 25 minutes, but it took almost twice as long for me to calm down. So if you come here, hopefully you have a better experience than we did. 29.01.2026

This WM has MORE of everything including equipment, apparel, accessories and I think they must have had a half dozen sales people! I'm used to seeing two or three at WMs at home. Their "women's" shoe selection is fantastic! I'd been shopping for a new pair of boat shoes for over a month and had scoured Sperry and Merril (& others). Finally found not one but two pairs that fit here . We got a dry bag, add'l lines, fender, Columbia light weight quick dry shorts, 100m water proof watch, Hally Hansen jacket, 4 pairs of shoes, clips for caps...just the variety was fantastic. We also returned a cup holder that we hadn't been able to use without a receipt (bought over a year ago) without a hassle. The staff here's pretty knowledgeable and very helpful. They easily ordered a pair of shoes (size) not in stock for us too. Their prices on somethings are higher. But many items were priced competitively and they had many on sale too. My Sperry's were cheaper here and they had styles I didn't see anywhere else. The quality of things sold here to me are better especially when safety is most important! WM is still the best place to get stocked for boats at a single location and this one in particular is awesome!

My Seattle born father climbed the Cascades and Tetons and took us camping hiking canoeing in New York's beautiful Adirondacks each year then cross country to Bryce, Zion, the Tetons, northern rim of the Grand Canyon, Black Hills, Mesa Verde, Monument Valley 60 years ago. I hitchhiked at age 20 with friends from San Francisco to Vancouver with a 70 lb backpack then took the Canadian National train ( now gone )via Jasper all the way to above Detroit. What is especially fabulous about REI's HUGE selection of products ( online) is the top TOP quality of new innovative materials, deep thought/care in manufacture by many of these once tiny companies, and outstanding long long wear and durability. Washing cleaning all these items is easy thanks to their excellent cleaning products. REI, a Co-operative, has not sacrificed resourcing the very best quality they can locate. They have not become a "mass marketer" like once excellent LL Bean. Instead REI relies very heavily upon their hundreds of consumer product reviews ( which I meticulously read before any purchase). REI genuinely LISTENS to their consumer base!! AND!!! Their online frequent sales, some short unexpected, are legendary! I did 70% of all my Xmas shopping at REI - - great stocking stuffers too. As an avid adventurer of the western US, I tend to visit outdoor stores wherever I travel to see what their idea of adventure is there and take the chance to upgrade gear that's frustrating to use or worn out over time. I've visited Bill Jackson's on two separate occasions now, heading in each time with about $500 worth of gear in mind to shop for. The first time I came, I got great help from multiple associates and planned to purchase gear off of their advise, but witnessed a confrontation between management and an associate that I recall as mild but disruptive enough it made me leave the store without buying anything. I didn't come back for about 8 months. Now I'm back in town for a few weeks of work before heading on a 2,700 mile bikepacking journey and really needed to grab a few items I hoped they'd have in stock. Being interesting in all outdoor activities, I started talking with an associate about the ski shop they were building the last time I was here. He keyed in that I had ski knowledge from my time tuning skis and custom fitting ski boots out west and started talking to me about part time work as they expected to need some extra hands with ski knowledge and took me to show me their ski selection. To get there, we had to walk through an area that he explained was sectioned off for an upcoming sale, so not yet available, but the necessary route to the still-open ski shop. He made a pretty good case for their ski shop and my wheels were turning about coming to help them out in the fall. On our way back through the sale area, I asked a question about the items we were walking past and the associate was very clear that those items were not available for sale until the official sale start date, but took the opportunity to educate me about them(I knew very little about diving equipment but am curious to learn). I was quickly convinced that a decent snorkeling kit was necessary equipment to enjoy the area and decided I'd get a setup. Before he got a chance to redirect me to where the currently available snorkeling gear was(I could tell it was coming, this area was also tiny compared to the sale area), an angry manager/owner appeared ready to tear apart the kind and helpful associate that had just taught me what I needed to know to spend an extra couple hundred dollars on top of the items I was already planning. I hurriedly left the area while she continued to holler at me and once I passed the threshold of that room I heard her resume berating the associate in anger. I walked myself over to the full price scuba stuff and found another helpful associate, but I could not bring myself to buy anything from this store after that experience. It was not unreasonable for her to ask us to move along since we had stopped in a place we were meant to pass through, but she was incredibly rude to the associate for going above and beyond to take care of an enthusiastic customer. I won't spend money here, that manager is the most unkind person I've encountered since I've been in Tampa. In a town of incredibly kind people, there is no place for that. Very sad, I really wanted to like this store. The associates seem to be knowledgeable and passionate about the outdoors, but they don't deserve to be treated that way.

We left to the exercise equipment where we were once again obviously followed. Then we went to golf and i guess they saw we were on so they send someone else who very awkwardly stood infront of us just staring at us. Made us feel really uncomfortable. Then as we were going to pay, my boys were laughing and pushing alittle and one of workers screamed st them. I literally said out loud got all to hear "this is why boys can't be boys anymore and end up doing bad stuff". They all just looked at me and put their head down.
