On vacation in Hilton Head and played Oyster Reef for our first round of the week. Unfortunately,…read moreit was a very disappointing experience and definitely not worth the money. The greens had recently been aerated and did not roll well at all. There were also multiple holes where maintenance staff were actively working in the middle of the fairways while we were trying to play. We tried several times to get their attention so we could hit safely, but no one moved out of the way. The biggest issue happened on hole #5. After someone in our group simply asked whether golfers had the right of way on the fairway, one of the maintenance staff members approached us and became extremely confrontational. He proceeded to intentionally yell during our swings and then threatened to "f*** us up"--his exact words. Completely unacceptable behavior from an employee at any golf course, especially one charging these rates. To top it off, hole #9 was under construction and played significantly shorter than normal with a temporary green. After the round, we decided to give the clubhouse a chance and sat down at the bar planning to order food and drinks. We sat there for about 10 minutes without anyone acknowledging or helping us. The staff were busy cleaning tables instead, so eventually we just got up and left. We completely understand that course maintenance and aeration are necessary, but between the course conditions, construction, lack of service after the round, and especially the behavior of the staff member on #5, this was an extremely poor experience from start to finish. We won't be returning to Oyster Reef. It would be helpful for the course website to update current conditions for other players moving forward.

Cindy was able to work with each of us on improving our technique, despite being at different skill levels coming into the lessons. She is friendly and accommodating, and was willing to reschedule one of our lessons (due to our schedule conflict) without hesitation or added fees. This, combined with a vast improvement in our playing level over the course of the lessons, speaks to the quality of the instructor...and the value in the lessons at the Savannah Golf School. I compared lessons of 7 surrounding golf instructors/schools in and near Savannah and felt this was the best value of them all. Lessons with Cindy will serve players well at all ages and skill levels. She was able to help us leftys, regardless of being a right-handed player herself. Her lessons were an appropriate mix of guided technique instruction and time to swing and hit balls to incorporate what we've learned. Her friendly critiques and reminders brought out our best shots and I expect those lessons learned will carry onto the course. Additionally, she will not try to sell you on which brands to buy or where to play, so you know she is focused on your improvement, not your budget or loyalties. That being said, she did help us narrow down brands for new clubs, but she based her recommendations on how we performed with the club(s) regardless of the brand. She will teach you that proper technique and practice will bring out your best shots, not necessarily the most expensive tools in your bag.

It is genuinely impressive how a golf club can charge people money and still manage to deliver an experience that makes you regret ever picking up a golf club in the first place. This place is the perfect example of what happens when a golf club has absolutely no pride in its reputation, its customers, or the experience it provides. The entire operation feels like a bad joke, except the punchline is that you are the idiot who paid to play there. The customer service is pathetic, the overall experience is miserable, and the value for your money is downright insulting. This club seems to operate under the assumption that simply having 18 holes makes it worthy of your business. Unfortunately, having a golf course and knowing how to run one are two completely different things. I would rather spend four hours looking for lost golf balls in the woods than spend another minute at this establishment. At least in the woods, I wouldn't have to pay for the privilege of being disappointed. This place is an embarrassment to the golf industry. The fact that it has the audacity to charge golfers for this experience is almost as ridiculous as expecting anyone to come back for a second round. Do yourself a favor and take your money literally anywhere else. Play a municipal course, hit balls into a cow pasture, or stay home and watch golf on television. Any of those options would be a better use of your time than setting foot on this property. If disappointment were a golf course, this place would be hosting the national championship. Zero stars. Zero recommendations. Zero chance I ever return.

We have been using JPGA for over 4 years now inclusive of having one of our children spend a full…read moreyear at the academy. We have done summer combines for several years (4-weeks, month of July) for 2 of our kids. Our experience has been out of this world positive. Our eldest, who did a full year residency, maintains relationships with kids he stayed and played with throughout the world. And he stays in touch with the coaches and they continue to help him...personally and with his golf game. Not only have our boys received exceptional training and education, they were taught what it means to be men...men of respect, integrity and honesty. The instructors worked tirelessly to help stress the importance of being honest, of showing and demonstrating respect on and off the course, and yes how to improve their game. The entire JPGA crew walks the talk. The whole JPGA leadership team, from office to instructors to house parents, went out of their way to speak with us and help us understand how our kids were performing...first as people and then as golfers. We couldn't be more pleased and we couldn't think of better people and organization to entrust with the care and oversight of our kids. We will continue to use them and will do so as long as we can.

The fairways are plush while the greens are very fast. Very nice driving range and putting green. The golf carts all have GPS which delivers accurate yardage to the pin as well as can track your score. It also limits where you can drive on the course. The beverage cart person came around frequently which was great. Cart path only on all par 3s as well as hole 6 which is a par 4. The staff was very helpful and friendly. While we had to wait for the group ahead of us for most of the round, we still finished in 4.5 hrs. As a Gary Player course, it's not very long, but does have some nice undulations and perfectly placed hazards. The fairways are quite open. I think the only ball I lost was when I hit into the water. Otherwise the course plays very true and would be a great course for someone just learning to play golf.
