I loved the different ages and talent. Parking is a bit of a headache. There isn't near enough for what this building can hold. Please give yourself enough time in case there isn't any parking stalls left. There are plenty of bathrooms, but during intermission, they have ropes set up for the huge line that forms. Snacks are sold, however can't be consumed inside the theater. Go figure? You can only eat outside in the lobby area. In the lobby is a table of Nutcracker/Christmas items you can purchase. I wish that there was a live orchestra, but this was my first time going and I don't understand much about this group. It was a recording that they danced to. I do recommend anyone to see this performance and let us know what you think?

The…read more stage was large and equipped with all the bells and whistles, lighting was great, audience seating was wonderful from all the vantage points and spacious and comfortable, and the backstage areas for the performers were ample downstairs. Having more bathrooms backstage would have been helpful.

This music fest, hosted by Jazz 91 KCSM, is an annual event taking place at the College of San…read moreMateo in between the Library and Theatre. Two stages were set up, one in front of each of these buildings, along with long and lovely fountains, creating a picturesque setting for live jazz. Plus, free admission and free parking (though visitor parking was a bit confusing to find, since a few lots had signs noting they were only for vendors and musicians). The event featured awesome performances by various bands on the Main Stage, including Electric Squeezebox Orchestra, Larry Vuckovich and his ensemble performing great tunes like Manteca, and the amazing musicianship and vocals of Kim Nalley: Three Ladies Sing the Blues. I also caught the performance of the SF Jazz High School All Star band on the Youth Stage, the young musicians showcasing their talents on the keyboard, trumpet, saxophone, drums, bass, and violin. There was no shortage of food and drink options, with six food trucks and a coffee shack on site. Lines were short or nonexistent, and I was able to enjoy a yummy gyro quesadilla from Falafel Fresh. Vendors and organization booths included Old Skool Cafe and Mango Blossom Apiary (local wildflower honey). Lots of seating too, campus structures in various locations, chairs provided for the event, and grassy fields with plenty of space for stretching out both in shaded areas and in the sunshine which was comfortable on a bright and breezy Saturday afternoon. I was able to lay out my mat, do some reading and relaxing, and of course, appreciate the beautiful sounds of latin rhythms, funk, and blues filling the air.

We were here to watch Willy Wonka. We could sort of see the band working hard under the stage, which fascinated the little ones. The show was nicely organized to accommodate the short attention span for the kiddos. If possible, you might want to bring the kiddos for a bathroom break before the show. Intermission is rather short and the end of the show was a little crazy for everyone rushing out. No food nor beverage is allowed inside the center. I had to do a separate run to drop off the snacks. I was very surprised to see the young elementary schoolers behaving so well sitting through the entire show without food nor water. In addition to the restroom challenge noted above, parking could be tricky. We got lucky to park about a block away on the side of the street. It was a good experience overall.

Stay away! I had the worse experience with the theatre…read moremanager. After booking the through their booking system Facilitron, I got an email from Paul Rudy Chapman saying facilitron does not do a good job and the quote and deposit you submitted is wrong. So I asked for an updated quote. He took 10 days to send the quote which was 3 times the original. After asking why he said that's the way it is. He put everything possible on there to charge me. I didn't need any light technician but he still forced me to put it there. No option. Then a week later, he mentioned we are moving away from Faciltron to Civic Permits site. You need to submit your application again. I said that's fine as long as I get the date booked. When I tried booking from the new site, it had issues and could not let me book. So I asked him to help. Rather than helping he said "oh it's too late. I can't promise the resources. I am going to cancel your booking and return the deposit. " He cancelled my booking a week before my event where artists are already here from India. Tried calling him 1000 times but he never picked up the phone. Even before he never picked. Long story short, highly highly unreliable theatre manager. Don't even know how they manage events when they can even manage a booking. Stay away.

I came here to watch the Songs For a New World performance on a Saturday afternoon. Because why…read morenot. I loved the theater and loved the performance. Because of its size, it provides an intimate experience regardless of where you sit. I sat at the second to last row but it still felt like a front row experience. At times I got goosebumps feeling like the actors were looking at me straight in the eyes. The concession was very reasonably priced. I got a cocktail for only $10.

All of the alakai are experienced dancers with many coming from Hawaii and have competed in the Merrie Monarch. He has a lot of knowledge to offer and has years of experience. Since I've never taken ballet as a child, I appreciate his pointers and give me a better understanding of the ballet technique. He is very competent at his job and you can tell he enjoys it, he also has a sense of humor and makes learning fun. The students are all friendly and various ages. I love this dance school and I have been an adult student for the last 4-5 years. I appreciate the…read moresystematic approach, structured and consistent curriculum, and caring teachers. As an adult I also work and parent, but hate when I have to miss a dance class. I really look forward to these classes and the community, including hanging out with the other adults before and after class. If I do have to miss, I appreciate that there is the opportunity to take a makeup class. If the teacher is sick, there is usually a substitute teacher. This "school" approach makes a huge difference compared to other dance schools where there is one main teacher and if she is sick or traveling, there are no classes. There is usually an annual performance opportunity in the school show, though it costs extra. The focus is on kids classes and developing them into Youth Company dancers and members, though there are enough beginner and intermediate adults and the teachers really care about helping us get better, breaking down the steps and drilling us with practice sessions. If you are toying with the idea of kathak classes, I recommend it!

As patrons: they have amazing shows with top notch quality (for a community theatre type). Definitely great production value. Music orchestra is excellent, and performers work really hard. They also employ all local members of the community. As performers: very supportive environment, you learn tons, and make great friends. Too bad they only do one show a year (in the summer).
