The brushes and scissors are kept in pots of steriliser that smell of Top Gear and London Pride. Then the memories flow back. The red and white spiral column out front, or the conversation with the gentleman - so much more than the trivia spilled in most modern hairdressers. And the price? Andy's follows suit. There's nothing here about hair styling or any silly talk like that. No, this is a gent's barber shop - can't you see the revolving red and whites outside?! First in line on a busy stretch of Filton Road the red and white striped Barber's sign revolves effortlessly outside - the universal sign for a no frills good haircut. No appointment needed, you can rock up any time you like and kick back with the ample men's magazine selection. Avoiding Saturday morning you'll usually be seen pretty quick. It's about a fiver for a decent men's trim or you can pay a bit more and get a very nice hot towel shave. The icing on the cake? Free cold drinks. It sells itself.

As a hairdresser myself I can say this is the quality of service and the kind of result that you hope for when you walk into a salon. He gave a great massage which is not always part of the service but it's definately a nice luxury when someone takes the time. Born out of the infamous Shambala festival, Shambarber brings a festival vibe to Stokes Croft in the way of mens and women's hair styling. The guys are involved in a number of club nights in and around bristol as well as Love Saves the Day festival and obviously, Shambala. They also hold invite only parties in the shop called 'The Barber Shop' that are absolutely amazing. Global DJ's playing to a crowd of 60. Festivals and music is their fun side - haircuts and beard trimming is their serious side; and they're blooming good at both!
