So saying that Kingsdown Barbers managed to get this right isn't really paying them too much of a compliment. With that said, everything else I saw of the barber (e.g. the haircuts they were giving everyone else) suggested that they would have been able to deal with a more difficult assignment. The salon is clean and pretty sleek. There wasn't much of a wait when I went along and the staff were chatty without any air headed 'So you going somewhere hot this year?' you usually get. The prices are pretty good, especially considering the pricy surroundings. It annoys me that far too many barber shops seem to add loads of bells and whistle in order to justfy putting a couple more quid on the bill and thankfully this isn't the case here - you just get a decent hair cut but for a fair price.

From the outside, Kingsdown Barbers looks really small, but it does go back quite a bit inside so don't be put off. The decor is really modern and clean, and I really like the red walls. The name 'Barbers' innitailly put me off as I assumed they only catered for men but this is not the case. In fact when I visited, there were far more females than males in there! The hairdressers are friendly and chatty but do not bombard you will questions which is nice! At only £17 for a cut and finish, it really is a bargin. I haven't however experienced what they are like with perming or colouring so I am reluctant to rate it too highly. They also don't take card payment so bare this in mind when visiting as there are no free ATMs locally. In general though I would recommened going here for your hair dressing needs.

However recently i have begun to get bored of the shaved head thing, so i decided to go into the newly refurbished Hair On The Hill. Low and behold, they did it and they did it well, and the best thing was that it didn't cost me an arm and a leg. All in all, a good basic barbers, who have just got a new loyal customer.

Reflections in Fishponds offer this service so I have been using them for a couple of years now. They provide a good service there - they are polite when you go in and when you have an appointment I have never been left waiting longer than 5 minutes after I am supposed to be booked in (I find some hairdressers are terrible at this and it isn't something I would put up with more than once). Obviously all stylists are different but I have found with the girls I've had cut my hair there, if you want to talk they will, but if you want to be quiet for a bit they don't jabber on at you about themselves (another pet hate of mine!) Every haircut I've had there has been good, from junior stylist to top stylist, though I could really tell the difference when I had the top stylist so it may be worth the extra few quid if you're having something more than a light trim. Overall, I have been very impressed and at a very reasonable price.

The staff were very friendly and i ended up having my hair cut right then! I was unsure what i wanted and the lady talked me through all the different things she could do, when she'd finished i was over the moon with my new hair style! The price is fair enough. I recommended this salon to my boyfriend thinking it would be good but it seemed the woman had no clue what she was doing. I don't know if they do many men's cuts in there but he asked for a cool funky cut trusting her to create something good. She kept cutting and cutting for an HOUR AND A HALF until he looked like an grotty estate mum. He was devastated and had to wear lots of hats. Avoid if you're a man (unless it's just simple short back and sides). As a female I'd say it's fine for simple trims and easy styles.

There isn't anything that separates this one from the dozens of others in the nearby area. The service is good, I like the orange juice they give you at the consultation stage. Prices are similar here compared to the others too so unless you are in the area and like what they do with your hair then there I wouldn't say there is a real desperate necessity to go here.

I have a bit of a thing about going to hairdressers and being made to sit still for hours but thanks to the relaxing atmosphere Sage is a great place to go. Located at the top of Cheltenham Road, Sage has to compete with a few other hairdressers in the area but I think it's the cleanest and friendliest one of the bunch. I was toying with going for a new look when I first went to Sage (drawn there for the cheap price of highlights, cut and finish) and my consultation with Lorraine put my mid at ease. She spent a good 45min talking through possible styles with me, letting me flick through magazines and working out colours that would suit my skin tone. I felt totally relaxed and had her full attention, which you don't often get in other, more high profile salons in Bristol. The addition of a beauty room at the back of the shop is an added bonus as all hair and beauty needs can be catered for under one roof. The prices for waxing etc are pretty cheap and the girls who work at Sage are friendly and chatty.
