I dread shopping for my kids because so many toys are movie tie-ins or fads or just plain dumb. And, you always pay an arm and a leg. In Pipsqueak, I was overjoyed to find the simple, but engaging toys that I want my children to spend time with. They have retro stuff (wooden tracks, wind up robots) and craft kits that allows kids to expand their creativity. They even have these great science kits to help your child discover more about the world around them. I purchased a $100 item last Saturday, but the person I bought it for already had it, so I went to return it. This was the first chance I had to return it as the person it was for lives out of town so I brought it there this Saturday. Today I was told in the store I can't return it, exchange it, or get a store credit because it's been over 7 days. Why 7 days? You still would have had my $100 if you exchanged it or gave a credit! Now instead, I will take my business and money elsewhere.

They also persistently pester you for donations at the cashier, making you feel uncomfortable if you say no. I'm not sure if the cashiers are given targets as to how many customers they need to get to make donations, but it feels like they do. When stuff is in stock they often have a great variety of items, including many hard to find sets or ones exclusive to Toys R Us, which at least makes it worthwhile to try here.
