    This would be a one star review if the owner didn't call me back a 2nd time…read more Booked a small job (5 items) and, of course, they have a minimum: 3hrs + truck rental = $309. Was suggested to me by the rep I first contacted that they could take unwanted items to Goodwill (or charity of my choice) with the "extra time" that wouldn't be used on such a small job. When I booked the job (with the owner!) he reiterated that option also. I also told them that I would have a big job coming up in the near future - thinking they'd be on their best behavior. The truck driver/mover showed up and immediately said he had time constraints (more jobs) and it was up to his discretion if he took any items to Goodwill. When he got some "push back" he said he called the office and got no answer. So: two lies. There were no other jobs that day for him. Also: he *did* call the office and got into an argument with the owners wife. I asked for the owner to call me to discuss. My interaction with Kevin was not what I expected. At one point I even said "do you care at all about what I'm saying or just waiting for me to finish so you can get off the phone?!?" No apology, no interest in what I was saying... The owner called me back after some time - seems he got the opportunity to speak to his wife and to talk one-on-one with the mover. His attitude had changed quite a bit. The fact that he didn't initially believe me and blew me off is really frustrating. What is ultimately most important is that he's not going to replace this employee with someone who cares (and is honest). I'm sure no one is surprised that the next job is going to another business. Also: I'm out of state. The other people involved are all local. They will be using word of mouth to let everyone they know about their experience with "Help U Move".

    Overall, a good experience. I moved from Sedona, AZ, to Daleville, Alabama, in May of 2025. If you…read morewant an easy move, you have to plan ahead. I contacted moving companies before I put the house on the market. Jerry came personally to give me a quote. The other company made me do a Zoom of all my stuff. (If I wanted to do the work myself, I wouldn't hire a moving company.) Jerry was kind and informative till the day of the move. I had some simple questions, and no one at McWhite's answered the phone, text, or email. When I finally did get a call, it started with "What's the problem?" in a tone that implied it was me. You can't get a delivery date until the driver packs the truck because they are all contractors. The packers were pretty good, until the end, and then they got sloppy, missing an entire drawer of the kitchen and not putting my motion sensor trash can in a packaging box, resulting in it being damaged beyond use. The driver was professional and courteous. We agreed on a delivery date. I checked in with him two days before my arrival, and he said he'd be delayed a day. He had a problem with another load, but didn't bother to tell me of the delay. I would have stayed another day with a friend had I known. I worked very hard to assure there were no surprises, even though the account manager told me, "Oh, there are always problems!?" These are really nitpicky issues compared to the horror stories I have heard. My heightened anxiety over my home selling and a big move may have made me oversensitive. Overall, I recommend them. The secret is to do your part. Have things organized, and check their work. Pay attention! If you do that, all is well.

You will get sold on how a direct shippers, like them, provide you with better quality service and that they are more professional and careful with your items. They sell you on full coverage insurance, etc. We have moved more than 20 times in our lives, and this was the worst, most damaging and stressful move we have ever made. Buyer beware! They did excessive damage to my furniture, including a sheared of leg on our 100 year old antique hutch, which I specifically made a point to take special care of. Dented file cabinets, broken handles on my dressers, chipped desk, and more. Add to that, they never unloaded our 20 ft ladder, which I can't claim now because I was never given my household inventory list that supposedly I should have gotten by the end of our move. No paperwork other that the last page of 16 of the inventory. I have communicated with both the Van Lines and McWhite's and they each blame each other for the mishaps, and now I am not getting responses from McWhite's at all. My past experiences with non direct, less expensive movers have been so much better than this company. In this case, you get what you pay for does not apply!
