I took my boat to Master Marine because the outboard stream of water was barely flowing. Service called me after three weeks to tell me they needed to replace the Impeller. I gave them approval and another 1.5 weeks later they called back and told me it was fixed. I went and paid them and picked it up. When I got it home I put on the lower unit muffs running water and started the outboard. To my astonishment, the outboard gad the same problem - a weak stream! So, I removed the cowling on top and followed the water out rubber line to where the water exited in the side of the outboard and found a spring clamp and removed the plastic molded exit part and discovered a couple of very small round seashells partially blocking the water exit. I removed them and reassembled, including top cowling. I started the outboard again with the muffs and I once again had a strong stream of water exiting. even at idle! I called Master Marine service and told them they charged me for unnecessary repairs. They hung up on me! I do NOT recommend them under any circumstances. They never checked the simple thing! read more

Service department isn't great. Been waiting on a call back for 2 weeks now and likely won't get one on a boat cover. Every time I call it seems like I'm annoying the workers. They wanna sell you a boat, after that they could care a less. Lucky for them they are one of the only bay boat sellers in SA or I would have definitely taken my business elsewhere. read more

Really disappointed in the service I have received from master marine. I am more bummed because I really like Chuck. I know he tries, but it is easy to see they have him stretched as a service writer and probably their only top notch mechanic. Chuck has gone the extra mile, but often forgets items because he should not be playing mechanic and service writer. I had an ongoing issue with my boat. I took it in 3 times for 2 issues. The first one happened to be bad gas. Chuck got that fixed up. However, on all three visits, I told him. My boat is getting warmer than usual on heavy load. Being a shade tree mechanic I watch those gauges like a hawk. So I never let the boat get very warm. They said all three times they put in the tank and nothing. I specifically asked when does the thermostat need to changed. A few weeks ago, we hit the lake and tried to pull some tubers . . the boat starts getting warm. Most boat shops are backed up this time of year for weeks and did not want to wait to get the boat back. So I decided to pull the impeller, check the hoses for clogging and finally the thermostat housing. As you can see in the attached picture. After all the years of dropping off my boat at master marine, not one time have they even CHECKED the thermostat. This is insane . . . my boat has an 8.2L big block. It would cost over $10K to remove rebuild and re-install an engine because of $20 part. To avoid any issues, I replaced the entire thermostat housing, installed a new hoses and impeller. I can't use these guys anymore. Hopefully they can get a good service writer or maybe if that is all Rick did he would not be so stretched. read more

There hours to work on a boat are really pricey I've had better jobs done on my outboard motor

I had my Mercury 350 1996 replaced with a re manufactured engine. Master Marine and Chuck did a good job. The quote matched the price and it ran great. A comparable boat New was over 60,000 so to spend 1/9th of that and get a new motor turned out to be an awesome decision thanks to Master Marine. Sure it took a while but I planned ahead and put it in so that they had time to do the work before summer hit. read more

I have gone through three boats with Master Marine. A Blue Wave with a Suzuki, a used Majek with a Suzuki and now a Majek with an Evinrude. I am rough on my boats. Any time I need service, I can count on Master Marine. I just knocked off my lower unit and they had me back on the water in less than a week. Although I hope I don't need them, it's worth the hour drive for me to know I'm in good hands if I do. read more

I am sure hundreds if not more good books were never touched because of their covers in this place! We walked in to check out their inventory, as their website is antiquated and unserviceable. This could have been a good tactic if their customer attentiveness and service were better. However wen we walked in there was no greeting, no half hearted shout from the back, just several people sitting in offices "minding their own business". I have finally my better half on board with this next major purchase and she really liked one of the showroom models they had. We walked into it, around it, under it, on top, on the side, to another one and repeat, and the other and another and then on to their graveyard in the back. One could say we were "snooping around". We walked back inside to end our roughly 45 minute visit and never once were we greeted, and on our way out no "good/riddens" nothing. . . Was this better than being approached and haggled or pressured to buy a 50000$ piece of equipment? I think not. My wife was intrigued and he questions. I made a mental note of them and the boat the boss liked and we researched a better spot to purchase our new toy! Happy hunting away from this joint! read more

I did not buy my new 2000 Blue Wave from Master Marine (out of state purchase) and I have received nothing but great service from them. One would not think so,but I have been treated like I bought there . The problem I have had is with Blue Wave and their quality control. Master Marine has been a big help in resolving my problems. I have nothing but gratitude for their outstanding service. I know I have been a pest at times with a lot of questions of a new mariner. I have always received good advice and promptly. The parts department is outstanding as well. In my humble opinion Master Marine is Top Shelf. A great company. read more

Wish I could say the same as the previous reviewer George, but he also seems to have only dealt with the service dept. I purchased a new boat from Master Marine earlier this year (2016), it took several weeks longer than the original estimated time and we didn't even order the boat, we bought one off the showroom floor. Had we known that, we would've probably designed and ordered one ourselves. We disregarded the postponement even though our salesman Albert told us every week it would be ready Friday and then each Friday would give us more excuses, but we understand there's extenuating circumstances sometimes. Though, that was just the beginning. Ever since signing the paperwork the salesman has been MIA! Had issues initially with the wrong size propeller and some missing optional equipment that was purchased with the boat. When I had to talk to service/parts dept about it, there is obviously no communication between the two departments and months later, we still haven't gotten our missing equipment. I've never seen such an unorganized business. I will add, Chuck, the service manager is very knowledgable and helpful. I was told the salesman intentionally lied to us about how fast the boat was able to go to sell us on the upgraded motor and the boat in general. Now we are stuck with a boat who's next closest dealership is in Dallas and just crossing our fingers we don't have warranty issues later down the line. I can only imagine how our experiences will go when that time comes. In hindsight, we are happy with the quality Master Marine sells, but really wish we would've stuck with Bass Pro down the road or talked more with the dealers in Austin. If I could give this business a ZERO I would. Worst experience ever. Albert the sales guy talked a lot of bologna. We traded in our boat that was in good condition for being a 2009 for a new Carolina Skiff. Trade in value started at $11,000 but when inspected went down to $8,000 because the wood in boat was roted. Had no clue. We took our boat out in early October no issues. At that point Albert said no biggie we can repair for $3,000-$4,000 we will deduct from trade value. I was skeptical because as far as I know key west stop making boats with wood in 2004 but anyway I gave my husband the ok. Then Albert was so confident that our boat would sell he said "give me 10days I will get it sold AS IS whoever purchases will be responsible for repairS of the rot and the soft spot and if we sell for more than trade in value we will cut you a check for the difference ". He even listed that on contract and signed, bunch of crap. Longggggg story short boat didn't sell Albert n the people at master marine kept our boat for a month. We purchased a new boat they gave us $4,000 for our trade because they kept finding this n that with it which was a bunch of bull crap. We Signed contract for new boat, delivered $30,000 check from broker ,signed our title for old boat over to master marine and after a month picked up new boat without all the promises Albert SAID he would do (blue tooth radio, Spare tire). Then 2 days later after bringing new boat home Albert calls and wants us to bring back boat because our trade is not good to sale and wants to back out of a binding contract that has been signed. He harassed us and called us scammers n threatened to call the cops on us. Then rudely hung up n said "I will handle this my way u handle it your way". Talk about threatening n very poor customer service skills. How dare he throw threats and talk to us with no respect. I will be reporting this to the BBB and our lawyer. I feel like he messed up somewhere and wants to put the blame on us but as far as I know he took our previous owned boat offered us a deal we took it n that is no longer our issue. I don't know if he damaged the boat when he took it out cause the first time he ran previously owned boat there was no issue second time he claimed it was filling up with water. How can he expect us to pay for repairs on something we no longer own nor agreed to be responsible for repairs anywhere on the contract once deal was completed. That is master marines boat now not our responsibility they inspected not once but 3 times signed off on it. If there was issues with boat when they inspected it in my opinion he should have Said no deal can't take trade n send us on our way but he didn't he was super confident and said brother this is a great boat great motor to my husband blah blah. Like I said they had our previously owned boat for 1 MONTH and took it out to the lake with no issues then all of a sudden issues. I have a funny feeling that they are scammers n trying to fix something that should have never happened. I don't know what but never in my life have I ever had an issue like this or been treated like we're some type of criminals. Our boat is in our driveway not at master marine we're only responsible for what's ours not what is no longer ours. Run farrrrrr away from this place they are full of crap and don't know a thing about customer service. Long story but worth the read. I bought a used boat. The guy that sold it to me had only used it a couple of times in 3 years and was mostly in storage. He took it to Master Marine for maintenance, just to get it ready for sale. He spent 1200 in carburetor cleaning and some other stuff. In buying the boat I went against my better judgement and didn't take it out on the water but did crank it and it ran. The rest of the boat was in great shape for its age so I bought it. I had the receipt he had from taking it to Master Marine just in case. First outing with the family, I could not keep it running once I put it gear, it was stressful and barely made it back to the dock. I knew it was just a dirty carburetor from being in storage. Took it back to MM with receipt in hand. I spoke with Chuck on the phone and in person. He is the only person there that has a clue. Unfortunately he can't do it all. I picked up the boat and took the family out again and the same thing occurred. Found a new shop, spent about 500 bucks for a carburetor overhaul and it has ran great for the last 4 years. I will never use them for repairs, they may be ok for oil changes and other simple stuff? read more

Took our boat in because we stalled out at the coast. We asked them to go ahead and do the annual while they had it opened up, but not to do any work until they can give us a quote. After not hearing from them for 3 weeks, we finally called and they hadn't even addressed the original issue. Boat still wasn't ready, (so still no quote) and when we went to pick it up after a month, all of a sudden we owed over $700! No quote. $700 for a yearly annual!! First annual, because it's a brand new boat!! They changed out parts that didn't need to be changed, or could have waited. No way we would have went through with the annual if we know it was going to cost so much. My husband could have done it himself. On top of the fact that we had to remind them of the original issue 3 times and they never even address it. The said it's running just fine. I guess we'll see when we take it all the way back to the coast. If we have to bring it back, this review will be A LOT worse! read more

Do NOT bring your boat for a service issue to this place.. I'll sum up my 2 months of agony they put me through. Called and spoke with Chuck the "lead" mechanic . Sounded very knowledgeable about my issue, asked how long it would take if I took my boat to them he said "oh couple days" well that ended up to a month and a half . Would call every week and he would tell me they haven't even touched the boat. Pretty sure he got tired of me calling and one week all of a sudden "oh yeah your boat has been done" come pick it up. Everytime I would call though and ask what issue they found it was never the same response, always a complete different issue every week. Finally picked my boat up cause supposedly they fixed the issue. Went to the lake and what do you know same issue as before .. called Chuck said to take it back and he would "re-look" at it he thinks he knows what they missed. Mind you they already charged me $400 because my water impeller was supposedly bad (common maintenance issue issue they used to get some money off me btw) hence the boat still had the alarm when I got it back from them. Take it back and Chuck is clueless of who I am and my issue with the boat ! Says to leave it there for a day and he'll go through it again . Go back to pick it up and now he says their is something else wrong completely different of any other issue he explained in the previous weeks! And that they won't touch it cause it's to risky. What a joke of a service department. I would NEVER take my boat to this place to get worked on. I wish I knew who the manager was to have my experience shared with him/her and get a refund since they fixed something that wasn't even messed up on my boat! I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. We took our boat in because it died on the lake and would not start. When we took the boat in we told them that we thought the ignition coil was bad they insisted that it was the fuel pump without even looking at the boat. We got a phone call 2 days later letting us know that the fuel pump was bad and needed to be replaced so we authorized a replacement. Two days later we got a called letting us know that the fuel pump didn't fix the problem and it needed an ignition coil. So we also authorized a replacement of the ignition coil. Then we received a call stating the the ignition control module and rotor needed to be replaced also. So we authorized the replacement of that as well. We received a call the next day letting us know that the boat was ready. We picked up the boat and took it to the lake and it ran horrible no low end or top end. We called Master Marine and spoke with Rick and let him know of the problem and he said bring it back in they would look at it so we did. We received a call a few days later letting us know that they looked at it, and couldn't find anything wrong so we picked it up and took it back to the lake same thing ran horrible. We again called and spoke with Rick he said bring it back and they would have to take the boat to the lake and lake test it so we took it straight back. A week went by and they still had not taken the boat to the lake to test it and said they put it in the tank but again found nothing. They then advised us if we wanted to take it and try it again we could so we picked it up. Went straight to the lake and same result so we then began to do a little work our selves. When we got into the engine compartment we found that the motor mount was only hand tight which they charged us to pull to install the fuel pump. The hose clamps on the auxiliary exhaust hoses where loose and two where missing. The distributor cap was not replaced neither was the cap seal and all the electrodes where corroded. The ignition module was installed with one of the screws broken off in the distributor. At this point we realized we would be better off fixing the problem our selves. We removed the broken screw from the distributor re-installed the ignition control module replaced the cap replaced the missing hose clamps and the boat runs like the day we bought it. read more
