Master Buffet is just off the Interstate Highway, and a bargain for lunch on a weekday under $7 per person. There is a wide selection of food on four buffet stations plus the Mongolian grill at the back. Diners should not have any complaints about finding something to eat. The venue is a freestanding store, with lots of parking outside, visible through large windows. There are many booths, and then cleaning staff does a good job. The Chinese food leans towards American favourites, with a few surprises (e.g. sesame balls for dessert). The luncheon price could be justified on the desserts alone. The quality of the food was good, although it would obviously be better if cooked to order rather than on a warming table. Service was efficient, by a large staff of Chinese women. read more

This place was a little bit better than House of Hunan which is in downtown Peru. This restaurant was very nicely decorated, very clean and very close to our hotel. It is a very American Chinese buffet, but the food was good. Slightly more choices than at H. of Hunan. Much more enjoyable experience. If you go to Peru and want buffet, I definitely recommend Master Buffet over House of Hunan. read more

One of our favorite restaurants. Good variety at a good price. One could just go there for the seafood and get just as good as Red Lobster, but more at a lower price. I love fried shrimp. I didn't care for the salmon, as it's overcooked to my taste, but my wife loves it. They have American dishes that don't interest me such as pizza and hotdogs, but maybe if you have fussy kids that's a plus. I also like the egg rolls, the peanut butter chicken, the crab legs, the pepper steak, the stuffed mushrooms, the black pepper chicken, and (I know it's American) fried onion rings. read more

Never coming here again. We had been one time about 2 months ago and everything was great. So, today being my birthday, we both thought it was a great time to come again! WRONG. Everyone was very nice for the most part, however most of my wife's food was cold....still didn't feel like complaining being my birthday we were just trying to make the most of our evening (we rarely get to go out and do anything). MY food however, was all really good. I was eating fried fish, fried shrimp (which I was disappointed it wasn't butterfly shrimp like the last time but it still tasted very good). I also really loved the Calamari, it was much better than expected or last time. However after I had a couple plates of food, I asked where was the Calamari, when was it coming, etc.....at least twice to one employee and at least once to another employee that started to approach me and asked what I was waiting on. A couple minutes later a cook from the kitchen comes out and looks at the Calamari pan (with a look of anger & disgust on his face) and turns back around without saying a word. That's when I decide, no tip, time to go, never coming back here.....EVER. Now for anyone that wants to comment I was eating too much Calamari, there were NO signs on the wall about the Calamari like they have for the Crab Legs. If Master Buffet is only going to cook a certain amount of Calamari regardless of what the customer wants we should be informed of this when our drink order is taken. Was really looking forward to a good dinner, this has turned me off to Chinese food period. read more

Bug alert!!!! So after about 6-8 months we decided to give it another shot yesterday on Christmas(my husband, myself and our 3 1/2 yr old daughter. Food looked great, smelled good too, I got about 3-4 bites into my food and low and behold a roach! I wish I would of taken a picture but I didn't. My husband spit out his mouthful, and got the lady right away and she said "oh my! Sorry about that" but I couldn't hardly stomach it knowing I let my daughter eat from my eat as well. We got up and walked out. My daughter was disturbed by it and kept saying "ew nasty bug!" And she was upset she couldn't finish her chicken. We will definitely stick to our normal Chinese place. When this restaurant opened, everything was amazing. Great food, fresh and a really nice variety. My favorite things was always the crab legs, the stir fry and a couple miscellaneous items. We would go about once every 1-2 months as we had our family of 6 and often more of us including other friends, family or those we were taking care of on a daily basis. That would be pretty costly. After many years of doing that, we moved away. Then we moved back after about 4 years. Just my husband and I would go about 1-2 times per month. I generally like to eat more crab than anything and then stir fry. The person that does stir fry is barely out there in his station. We'd have to ring a bell and then feel like we were bothering them we also chronically ran into the issue of no crab legs. We would ask for more and there would be like 3-4 people waiting and they'd only bring a few crab legs out so the majority of folks waiting wouldn't get any. After numerous rounds of this happening to me, I went to complain. The owner told me I'm rude. I told her that I doubt wed be back and she said, "oh well!" Wed have to go fill our own drinks. Terrible service. The food was rarely fresh any longer. I wonder why the place used to be packed every day of the week and now is dead even on weekends. After reading some of these reviews, I see that they have been just as rude to other customers also. Sadly, a once great restaurant will probably be closing soon :( read more

This will be the last time... I have had numerous bad experiences at places, mostly based on service and not so much food quality. Aside from seeing a monthly post about people finding a tooth in their sushi, a wax worm larva in the rice, a dead bug in the sugar holder (which actually happened to my parents) today's experience left me very uncomfortable and uneasy. We were running short on time before my son had to be at preschool (we live in town) and aside from fast food there are not alot of choices to have a 'quick' bite to eat. I am also 6 months pregnant so that factors in heavily to food choices. Anyways, we usually get the build your own stir fry from the grill area as I like alot of vegetables and spice with a little meat. The zucchini bin was one of the first choices and I notices a few different stages of mold that was growing on the outside yet they sliced up and served anyways. The spots were not small, they were definately bigger than a half dollar. There was nobody around to even grill my food, so I had to go hunt down the owner (whom is usually almost there) and tell her "hey you have some moldy vegetables" She yelled at some man to come switch out the zucchini and then stood behind me and yelled at the other waitress (probably about me or the staff or whoever, in her native language) and made me feel weird for saying something. Then the grill guy comes back with a new wrapped pan of zucchini, throws it down in front of me and unveils it, like "here you go complainer" and when I went to go and pick from that new batch I noticed even more mold growing on it from the last pan he was angrily whacking against the garbage can. I said to him "hey man there's more mold in this one" he replied "so sorry, you don't want?" At this point in time I just turned around and hollered for my boyfriend to try to explain to him what was going on. I tried turning our backs to the chef because I wanted some privacy but then the owner walked past and stopped and just starred at us. Then I told my boyfriend to come over to the corner so I could just speak to him on what am I supposed to do, and she followed us, I said "excuse me I'd like to talk to him alone please" and then she continued on with her yelling at the chef and they did not remove that batch of zucchinis. At this point in time we should have probably left but my boyfriend and son had already gotten full plates of food and fearful of them making us pay we decided to stay. I had my order cooked without zucchini, and maybe I am being paranoid but everytime I ate green pepper I could have sworn I tasted mold off the pepper as well. Which completely made me lose my appetite and i stopped eating. The other thing that completely bothered me about our experience was the senior couple sitting across from our booth. A group a young black girls came in and this old couple just eye raped them from head to toe as they walked by and then continued to talk about their "appearance" the entire time we were there up until we left. They had their heads turned the entire time and focused little on their food and continued to make foul and disgusted faces at these women. They had nothing better to do than racially comment on those girls the entire time we were there about their smell, habits, how many must live in their house, blah blah blah. It was just sickening. I'm well aware of the racial intolerance that exists in my area but I for the life of me can't understand why you think it was acceptable to trash those young women. As I got up to get my son ice cream, I walked by the girl's table and they all had just gotten their food and we're praying. PRAYING! All had black pants and two of them button down shirts. Really? REALLY!? Racisim, in a chinese resturant. Classic. They were dressed like they just got done from church and this bitter old couple with matching tye dye howling wolves t shirts and greasy hair were picking on them. Absolutely made my blood boil. I did everything I could to just contain myself and not get worked up because I'm pregnant. I really hated the food here and pregnant, left half of my plate uneaten and sat there with my water waiting for my boyfriend and son to finish their food. After the multiple shutdowns and name changes this one place has had, we had the personal experience that will keep us from coming back. If you're going there today, please keep in mind they did NOT change the zucchinis and check your skin tone at the door for fear of persecution of other customers in this great year of 2016, it's still alive and well. read more

Food looks like its been under heat lamps for months. It was cold to the touch, someone is going to get sick. Nasty, would never eat again. I went with a group here for Sadie and we asked to split the bill. They ended up giving us one bill and we had to split it at the register. I was with the last people to leave and someone had not paid for a drink there was a mixup and the person was only charged the water I had not their coke. The manager was extremely rude telling us she was going to call the cops if we didn't text our friends to come back to pay or if we didn't for them. She had an extremely disrespectful tone and attitude telling us there were other people in line and to hurry up. Then I realized she had overcharged us on another person on the receipt as well. I will not be going back I've never been treated with that kind of rudeness at a restaurant. read more

Accused me of not paying for my meal SIX months earlier......yet said we'd been there in the meantime and never said a word. Instead of talking to me about it, they just added an additional $37 to my bill and then blindsided me as I paid (admitting they wanted me to eat and get more money before saying anything). Claimed they knew we were there in July...two months after we supposedly "dined and dashed"...yet didn't say anything. Doesn't make sense. Wonder how many other people they are running this scam on. This is a very good place to go in the area. You can order off the menu or you can eat off the buffet, either choice is good. They are always putting new and fresh food on the buffet, and they have a sushi bar with a chief on hand. Not sure where Teri M went, but was not this place. The Staff is friendly is helpful and will refill your drinks and help you with questions. This is not China Town food, but Midwest food, so there may not be as much spice or sauce as one will like, but ask and they can make to order. This place is very clean and staff is super nice. You get a lot of food for a good price, which is nice if you have been boating or hiking all day. read more

I have always liked this place, but I think it's even a little better now since it reopened. Definitely the best chinese in the LaSalle Peru area. The people in our office go for lunch monthly. I've eaten at this resturant every Friday for about 1 1/2 years, I don't eat brekfast on Friday and I make the buffet my main meal of the day. I always eat the vegertable egg foo yung and tofu soup. On July 1st, I ate my meal as usual, before I even got home I could not stand up straight, my stomach was churning and burning so bad I could not stand the pain. I threw up six times on the way home. Anyway I ended up in the hospital on IV's and morphine from the food poisoning. I threw up the egg foo yung over and over while in the hospital. This is the first time I ever contracted food poisoning from eating out. in my entire 63 years. The people who run the resturant are friendly enough, but it's the food you have to watch out for, not the smiling faces. I will never ever eat at another Chinese resturant again. The only other complaint I had about this resturant was a thick foot long black hair I found in an egg foo yung pattie once, that should have been an omen. Eater beware. read more
