I looked into this dojo for my son because I trained in karate for about six years when I was…read moreyounger, and I know how valuable good instruction can be. I wanted him to have that same opportunity. What I saw here raised one red flag after another. The Kenpo taught here struck me as so watered down and Americanized that I had trouble recognizing it as the martial art I hoped my son would learn. They've incorporated boxing movements that, in my experience, make little sense in karate sparring. I was genuinely surprised to see ducking taught as a move. The belt progression concerned me even more. My son has a friend who earned a black belt here at age 12 after only three years of training. On its own, that might warrant a closer look. Combined with fees for each belt test, it left me with the impression that promotions are happening far too quickly. A black belt should represent years of demonstrated skill and hard work, not a series of paid tests. I also found the push to commit to months of training troubling. Other reviews allege that families were asked to leave five-star reviews; I can't verify those claims, but they added to my concerns. I'm sure some children enjoy the classes. But from what I saw, the emphasis seemed to be on keeping kids entertained and moving through belts, rather than teaching a disciplined martial art with meaningful standards. If you want a fun hour-long activity for your child, this may suit you. If you want serious, traditional martial arts instruction, I would look elsewhere. To me, this had every hallmark of a "McDojo."

The space, the esthetic, the energy, the instruction is all high caliber. after moving with owner, Ken, the first time, I knew this Art of movement was a game changer for me. Ken's innate and experienced knowledge, wisdom, expertise & guidance and endless patience with me helped guide me toward my most empowered version of self to date. Movement is his medicine. I have come into a lot of healing through this medicine. I am NOT a fighter by any means and can't even stand the thought of combat or grappling and yet here I am delighted, absolutely enjoying learning principles of Jiu jitsu and I find myself wanting to learn more and more! Professor Jimmy not only responded quickly but personally-which is a rarity. Unfortunately, he wouldn't be teaching the class I was able to make but he let the instructor teaching know I'd be there. It's hard walking into a new place, even harder when everyone else knows each other so I was pleasantly surprised when Coach Dasha, called me by name, set me up with a waiver form and even let me use a school's uniform. They're just as technical as they are friendly and I liked that the warm up was related to what we were learning. I was lucky enough to get partnered with one of their resident black belts who not only had some moves but was willing to help me learn what he did. Super welcoming, loved the class structure and everyone there rolled hard but were still so easygoing.

Of course, that was silly because Kim is a professional and tailors workouts to fit her clients' needs. Her knowledge of physiology goes way beyond the average trainer. She is very talented and helped me out a lot. I regret I wasn't able to take more classes with Kim but our schedules don't line up. She is a one woman show and does her best to accommodate her clients. I think it is a testament to her talent that she is so sought after that her classes have waiting lists.

I began to notice a few things after a while, like I did not fit in to much and how it was the same click all the time. Well, into 2.5 years, I had an injury and had to stop my class, ended up on crutches..I managed to come back getting my Tuesday again. Kim went out of her way to NOT putting on a waiting list for the class. So bottom line here is she gets $650 for 10 private sessions and multiple classes, if you could actually get into a class! There is the standard 3 people in Tuesday class who NEVER leave, and that leaves one space. That class you do not get your monies worth, they stop all the time...play around, and for me she refused to advance me into the next level, so I was stuck there. If you can find another Pilates instructor, pick them first. Not K&C, kim is beyond rude and out strictly for the money, and the clickiness of it all. I've spent way to much money there and am very dissatisfied.
