Handbags, wallets, passports holders, key rings are on this side. As my daughter shopped Massimo offered me a chair and we chatted until my daughter picked out a purse. We pay and we leave. He was a little harder to find than she alluded too, but after a quick call via their phone number on Yelp, I found the shop. And before we start, know he has two businesses, right next door to each other. An entire shop dedicated to leather jackets. And then his other shop dedicated to purses and accessories! It's Florentine leather heaven. At first, we worked with two gentlemen who were extremely helpful. They weren't Massimo though. I was sad because I thought I'd have a chance to meet him. After trying on so many jackets I can't even keep count, Massimo walks in. He'd been in the other part of his store and I just didn't even know it existed! The reason his business is so great is you can customize any jacket they offer. There are so many different styles, cuts, and leather types it is hard not to spend hours there. After all, I walked away with two jackets and two purses. Technically, only with the purses, as my jackets are being shipped because I had them customized. The customization is key to the process. I cannot compare this store to the other leather stores, because I didn't give them a chance. He came so highly recommended and was so customer service oriented, I had no reason to try another store. When I first arrived in Florence, I honestly had no plans of purchasing any leather goods. After walking around Mercato Centrale and seeing some of the leather goods available, I decided to do some research on where the best place to buy leather goods is. Massimo showed up amongst the top 4 in Florence. At first I wasn't convinced that I was going to buy a leather jacket. I walked into the shop and Igor helped me out. He showed me the different styles, encouraged me to try different ones on, styles and sizes, and told me to take a few photos for my friends. He described what I could pair the jacket with and what color to get depending on what occasions I would wear it for. He was very nice and was not pushy at all. He encouraged me to try them on even after I said I probably wouldn't be making a purchase that day. He said it wasn't a big deal. He also gave me a few restaurant recommendations even though I didn't purchase anything that day, I went to one of them, it was great. After some more research and some thinking, I decided to return to purchase not one but two jackets. Again, Igor was there and being super helpful. When he saw me pick up another jacket, he even remembered it wasn't the style I was looking at the day before. One of the two jackets I ended up purchasing, the sleeves were too long so Igor marked the sleeves for me to have them tailored at no cost to me. Apparently there's one tailor who is contracted by all the leather shops in the area so Igor had my jacket tailored and ready by the next morning. Since I was still going to be traveling, he folded the jackets inside out and wrapped it was plastic to protect the leather. He also taught me how to clean the leather with unscented lotion or makeup cleaner when needed. The cost of the jackets is also very good considering the quality. For shorter leather jackets for women, they started at the 200 euros range. You'll see that some of the shops will offer jackets at 100 euros, those are most definitely not genuine leather or made in Italy. The jackets are cost less than places like Santa Croce (700 euros) because the lining is nylon rather than suede. I personally don't need suede lining so Massimo was a good tier for me. I had such a good experience there that I recommended anyone I met along my Italy trip who was headed to Florence to come here. read more

Massimo leather may sell a decent leather jacket, but the price is absurd. If you're a student, they'll tell you the student price is €240 which is "discounted" from nearly €500. After reading some previous reviews, they price discriminate based on how you look/what you wear or maybe even where you're from. **If a business could afford to sell jackets for €240(they can go cheaper) why wouldn't they offer it to a customer who isn't a student that can't afford €500?** - simple economics The salesman's tactic was trying to be my best friend. He kept naming towns around where I was from, making it seem like he was "reputable" and trying to establish familiarity. After naming 10 towns I felt as if he wanted to bring me into the back of his shop ;). He also then stated that they only work with the 7 best manufacturers in Florence(sure). I left after trying a few on to go shop around and see the rest of the sellers(always shop around before buying something from a market). Most had jackets of the same quality, and they were much cheaper. When I went back to Massimo the next day I told him I wanted to give him my business but not for €240, as it was too much even for a student. I had found a guy selling jackets for €135 so I asked if he could do €150. He was firm on the price of €240 and wouldn't budge. He then tried to tell me that some of the sellers have low quality jackets and for me to "watch out", after I said that I can't be sure his jackets are authentic either. After all, he's trying to sell jackets just like every other vender, and why should I give him the benefit of the doubt. It's not like Massimo leather comes up on any list of the top places to buy leather in Florence. He then pulled up a girl's blog from the computer in the shop to show me how one of "my peers" had made a leather guide. It talked about how her jacket had ripped in half and to watch out for the venders in the market! Who knows what kind of credibility this article had. And what do you have to be doing to have your jacket rip in half, because last time I checked you don't go clubbing with a leather jacket on(girls wear your pleather, it stretches and wicks). When you travel, to new places forging your own path is the best part. Try not to follow someone's guide to a tee, especially if you know they're a sucker for leather. I was on a quest to find a leather jacket in Florence. However, with so many leather stores and stalls and sometimes impossible to tell between fake and real leather, it's hard to know which places sell real leather. I went to Massimo based on good reviews, but I came in skeptical. Massimo looked like any other leather store, and there were some red flags: many leather jackets in all sorts of styles and colors, plastic wrapped jackets in the back, Massimo himself pulling the light trick. All the jackets say, "Vera Pelle," meaning real leather, but it's hard to know the quality and % leather of the jacket. However, I ended up finding and buying a great quality, buttery soft jacket. At home, I did the water test (note risk of possible water stains), and the jacket was completely made of leather. Plus the price, 200 euros, was great for such a good quality jacket. All the jackets were at a set price, and they refused to haggle when I offered cash, so made things a little easier (unless I was doing something wrong). As the other reviewer has mentioned, although they have many tourist customers, they do not mention the VAT tax paperwork unless you do. He shared how he purchases his inventory from premium leather artisans from Tuscany and that these artisans also work on other super premium branded leather goods. What you're getting from Massimo Leather hits the sweet spot of high end Italian leather and workmanship quality without paying for the branding. I've been searching for a quality leather store in Florence for about one week. I've read reviews online, on Yelp, consulted guidebooks, waded through the sketchy marketplaces, and stopped into several shops. It's overwhelming to pick the perfect place because Florence has so much leather stores (including many selling overpriced or fake goods). All signs pointed to Massimo, so I went there today. Immediately I felt that the service would be excellent. The owner was very warm, accommodating, and professional. He and his female assistant (she's in charge of the purses) did not try to push anything on me. She let me take my time, personally adjusted straps for me, and she even refused to hard-sell a product to me (I said I liked a purse and she said it looked nice but that she didn't want to "convince" me and encouraged me to continue browsing.) There was a large selection of purses in many different styles and colors. After I selected the purse that I bought (and love- nice lined inside as well as quality outside, which is rare to find in the marketplaces which often sell purses that are unfinished on the inside. Best decision of my Florence trip was to come here. We ended up here through a recommendation and it was a fantastic one. Massimo is extremely personable. He was awesome and was talking to us about his products, politics, etc. He even gave us a shot of some great tequila he had! I bought a bag, wallet and jacket here. This is high quality stuff, but you aren't paying the super high prices you are in some other places. The absolute best part was that the jacket actually fit me. I am a small, petite person and so finding things that fit in the U.S. can be a challenge. It you are a large person or have large chest then you probably need to get something custom made. They also shortened the sleeves for me for free which was great.
