I've passed this place many times, but never entered. Until recently. Massimo Dutti stocks some very nice clothes at reasonably affordable prices. Nice cut, conservative colours, understated. The ladies' section is on the ground floor, and the gents' upstairs. While the Massimo Dutti brand is possibly as mass-market as it gets, the place feels very intimate: lots of space, high ceilings, clothes not stuffed in every corner, jazz tinkling softly in the background.
One of the highlights of my unintended visit was the service. Heck, I didn't even mean to buy anything. But the sales assistants were able to strike a balance between discretion and attentiveness, neither stalking me interferingly (Can-I-help-you-sir-is-everything-okay?) nor ignoring me completely. At the counter, the assistant made polite small talk while wrapping my new shirt in tissue paper before placing it in the bag. Maybe I'm just not used to such service, but this alone made me feel like I had underpaid - even if wallet disagrees. read more
