I am a longtime member of Massage Envy at a couple locations. I have always been very satisfied with the therapists and the massages they provide in Normal. However the front desk needs help with scheduling. Twice now I have gone in for my scheduled massage, have checked in and have waited for my therapist to take me back. It just happened again this morning. After waiting for about 10 minutes, the front desk tells me that my therapist isn't coming in. The therapist changed their schedule and was taking the day off. The therapist isn't at fault here. The front desk is. I should have gotten a call to inform me that I needed to reschedule. Instead I got the customary reminders of my appointment and had no reason to suspect that I would instead be sent home very frustrated. read more

I am out of words for this company and they have lost a customer in me (they likely don't care). Long story short... my wife gifted me some of her massage credits. When I called in to set up an appointment there wasn't any availability for the type of masseuse and time I had available. I asked if my credits would expire and I was assured they would not. They also said they would call me should appt times become available, which never happened. I called earlier this week to set up a massage and was informed that my credits had expired... say what? Why is this just now being communicated? When I was assured this wouldn't happen? This company doesn't care to serve its customer and instead is wrapped up in the bureaucracy of fine print and doesn't stand by it's spoken word. I should begin by saying that every massage therapist I have worked with at this location has been friendly, professional, and capable. However, as a member, this business' model feels distinctly like a scam. I was just called and told that six months of appointments I had booked were canceled and that there are no available appointments that I can be offered (because they have no idea when appointments might be available again). This is exactly how I've accrued 9 credits, which equates to having paid for nine services that have yet to be provided and that I cannot access; I have been canceled on last-minute multiple times (never with any possibility of rescheduling within the month) and have had many months when I am told (even when trying to book months in advance) that there are no available appointments. I have tried to book WAY in advance, but obviously that hasn't helped either. The fact that I am continually charged for a product they will not provide feels like fraud. I have frozen my membership and will be lodging a complaint with the BBB, but I wonder if NBC 5 Investigates would be interested since it seems like I am not the only one dealing with this unethical set of practices. At the very least the negative publicity (and hopefully a terrible Yelp rating) might warn others away from this scam. read more

I booked a 90 minute massage and when I arrived I was told there was a scheduling error and I only had a 60 minute (50 of actual hands on time). They did make it right by discounting the cost to the introductory price or offering to reschedule. I elected to have the 50 minute massage. The massage itself was excellent. I had Jess and she was professional and the pressure was perfect. She made sure to tell me when the massage time was starting and when it would end which I appreciated. The massage was on-par with many other massages I had received. I knocked a star off only because I do not enjoy the high pressure sale tactics to join as a member, and I felt the question on if I had a HSA was highly personal. I usually only go to massage envy when I receive a gift card due to being pressured to join. While I understand that's their business model, the last thing I want to discuss or think about is a contract when I'm relaxed. I would recommend this place if you are looking to book a massage quickly, but keep in mind they want you to sign a membership contract. read more

The facility is nice, the receptionists are kind, but I am disappointed every single time I've gone here and it's been three times now. My masseuse used one motion in every spot he worked on and I asked three separate times for more pressure or a different spot worked on. I have had massages in at least 20 places, and based on those experiences I'd say my therapist at Massage Envy had little training. She was systematic (do something on this side, so the same thing on the other side), but it seemed like she was making up what to do. She failed to notice when I was wincing in pain, and even when I said Ow! she continued to do the same thing without even asking me what hurt. The person at the front desk said they have 19 therapists. I may go back and give them another try, but I would definitely ask for a different person. As others have commented, they push the membership programs somewhat strongly, which is a bit of a turn-off. The facility was pleasant enough, and the massage bed was soft and also heated, which was a treat. read more

I used a gift 60-minute massage today and was a little nervous going in because I read all the reviews here that mentioned the staff trying to up sell memberships. I was pleasantly surprised that this was not my experience at all! Membership was never mentioned until I asked (!)-- my massage therapist was so excellent I wanted to book another appointment and found out I can save $$ by becoming a member; like a lot of money. There was absolutely NO pressure at all. Maybe the comments here led to retraining, but my experience was great. The environment was clean, smelled great (lavender vanilla) and the typical massage soundtrack was playing. The rooms are small but adequate; the tables are comfortable and heated. My only reason for not giving ME 5 stars is the Tranquility Room, where they get your health history and screen you, is not private. If you have any delicate information, you may be sharing it with the next client, or like me some guy waiting for his wife. I just waited and spoke to my massage therapist but it seemed weird. I have been going to Massage Envy in Bloomington since May 2014, almost since it opened. I started going there due to sciatica pain, which was constant. My wife finally convinced me to go and with the help of Maria and regular appointments, the pain subsided. I view this as a quality of life issue, not a luxury - I can do everything I want to do - hike, bike, stand in a river and fish, walk up stairs at work, and exercise - all because I am pain free. I still go on a monthly basis to make sure the pain doesn't come back. I highly recommend Massage Envy. A couple of tips: Talk to the manager and tell them what you want and get a recommendation on a therapist. Talk to the therapist and let them know what your issues are - and provide feedback - pressure too hard, not hard enough, etc. These folks are not mind readers - tell them. If the therapist isn't working for you, use a different one the next time. Once you find one you like, book them as far in advance as you can. read more

When I booked a 90 minute facial, stating that I was not a member & had never been there before, I was told it would cost $68. When I arrived for the appointment, I was told it would $83, but if I became a member that day, it would be $68. My facial with Sky was good. He showed me the products he recommended for me and I was going to purchase them. When I went to pay for the appointment, I was told it would be $143 for the appointment alone. I had planned to become a member and buy the products, but the $68 price was no longer an option even if I became a member. I am very disappointed in Massage Envy. I was a member for over 2 years, paying a significant monthly fee and decided that I was going to cancel my membership at the end of the year. I was given 2 $100 gift cards as gifts this past holiday seasons and had the worker at the desk put them on my account. Somehow the money was not properly put onto my account and I didn't have the physical cards anymore. Only 1 gift card was showing up on my account. I also had points on my account from being a regular customer. When I called in to inquire about how many sessions I had left and how much money I had left on my gift card the manager said $35! What happened to the $200 I was given? I didn't use all of it. In addition to that, when I did cancel, the girl at the desk said I had until March to use any left over sessions and gift cards on my account at the member rate. I was going to schedule 1 last massage using the $35 gift card and the points I earned but the manager was only going to give me the non-member rate! Unbelievable. It was going to be $80 for a 60 minute massage which is actually 50 minutes because they cut the massages 10 minutes short. Do NOT use massage envy unless you want to be ripped off and mistreated. They have no customer loyalty. What an embarrassment. The manager should have done whatever he could to regain my confidence in Massage Envy but instead his customer service skills lacked significantly and for that reason I will never spend another dollar at Massage Envy. read more

Really disappointed in the outcome of today's non-visit. Was suppose to have a facial on Tue, but they had to cancel it and it got rescheduled for today. I was scheduled for a facial on the sheet you feel out it asked if you had been on chemo with in the last six months ( I had been) they told they couldn't give me a facial. I can understand that but what I'm truly up set about is they told me I couldn't even get a massage because I have cancer. How can getting a massage be damaging when you have cancer? I've been here 4 times. The first time was a few years ago and actually awful. The masseuse noticed I had a horse tattoo and started asking me questions about horses! I love talking about horses....but can this maybe wait until I'm not trying to relax? How many do you have, what color, names, etc then what really got to me was she asked how much I pay for them a month. First off, very unprofessional and rude, two, I'm trying to relax, not worry about my bills. Anyway, I did end up going back just decided to request another masseuse. Last few I've had were really well done, Jamael was actually the best massage I've ever had. Only reason I'm bringing the stars to only 2 is because every time I go I feel pushed to book my next massage or do a membership. I feel pressured and that's the last thing I want after I go to a spa. I do a massage 1-2x a year and I'm content with that. I bought gift cards for my parents and if you spent $150 in cards you get a "free massage". Well the "free" is actually only the $40 intro rate, I was unaware of that. I bought my wife a $50 gift certificate from the Bloomington, Illinois Towanda, Massage Envy store. The Sales person convinced me to increase it to $100 to get a voucher for a FREE massage. After my wife used the gift card for a $39.99 massage and used her free massage voucher, she scheduled a third massage and intended to pay for it with the balance left on the gift card, of course, paying cash for the balance. After her massage, she was told there was nothing left on the card and therefore she owed $80. ??? No manager available, had to call manager at home. Not a relaxing encounter for my wife as I had planned. You'd think staff at a Spa would be focused on keeping their customers relaxed hand calm! Not this location, my wife was terribly stressed and I am also. I hope they don't expect recommendations for service to anyone we know or anyone reading this. I went in for a thirty minute massage one day (I am a member) and within the hour after my massage I was on my way to the ER from the excruciating pain of sciatica! When I went in to report what happened to front desk staff, one of the ladies tried to accuse me of having a pre-existing condition of sciatica which I had never had until this horrible experience! While the massage itself was fine, their customer service is horrible. They save credit card information even if that credit card is not authorized to be used for payment. They require a credit card number to book appointments, which is normal, but if you book an appointment for yourself and a friend under your credit card number, they automatically save your credit card information under your friend's name (even if you do not use the credit card for payment). And they will charge that card under your friend's account (again, even if you never authorized that card for payment). This happened to me and while the staff fixed the issue when I notified them of the problem, this business practice does not seem legal and the manager I spoke to was rude and kept talking over me while I was asking questions about this very questionable practice. I will not return as I don't feel my personal information is protected. read more

The actual massage was fine; nothing great, but relaxing. However, be careful of sharing your credit card information. To make a long story short, I booked three massages- one for myself, one for my mother, and one for my friend. They require a credit card number when booking a massage, which is standard practice, so I gave my credit card number. My friend ended up paying for all three massages and my credit card number used to reserve the massages was not needed to pay for the services used. My mother ended up signing up for a monthly membership and used her credit card for her account. I never returned to Massage Envy for any services after this one visit. A few months later, I noticed a few charges from Massage Envy. I called and found out that they saved my credit card information (that was used just to book the massages) to my mother's account. My mother's credit card had expired and instead of contacting her to get a new credit card number, they used mine. Not only should my credit card information never have been used, but why would they save my credit card information under someone else's name/account? I never gave them permission to use or save my credit card information let alone on someone else's account. On top of this, when trying to resolve this issue, the Manager was rude and incompetent. She clearly had never had customer service training. They did refund the charges to my credit card, but this should have never happened in the first place. This horrible business practice on top of the bad customer service has convinced me to NEVER use Massage Envy again. read more
