AND DID SHE! Mandy's in jam packed with witchery, magic and cosmic loveliness. Such a pleasant vibe and welcoming place. Candles, crystals, potions, teas and so much more. I of course couldn't leave empty handed so I grabbed a cute heart shaped tea infuser. Prices are on the higher end, but she is not only a local independent business she is a specialty shop that isn't everyone's "cup of tea" so to speak; so, the prices reflect supply and demand. I would definitely stop in again when in the area to support her.

When I went there I called just 10 mins before my desired appointment. The owner was able to…read moreaccommodate me so I went ahead. Once I was there I found out that the owner is also the lone masseuse. When the massage started she focused a lot on my back since that was what I complained about. The experience was ok until people kept coming in asking about the massage. She had no dedicated receptionist so she was answering the door while giving me a massage. For the duration of my 1-hour-massage she went to answer the door and left me three times. That is what I didn't like the most. So when it was time to turn over, she was only able to massage my face and arms, a bit of my feet, my legs not at all. Then her little timer went off and it took her a while to get to it, it was annoying really. When it was time to pay, she laughingly said, you want to give a tip? Oh well I gave her a tip but I don't like that she asked me outright. Will I go back there? No.

When I came in I was greeted and told to enter a vacant room. I explained I had a Groupon, so I was escorted to the front for my voucher to be verified and recorded. It was then I was told about paying $5 for taxes, which she said I could pay at the end. The massage room was small but clean. Soft music was on repeat. Once I was undressed and covered with a sheet, the woman came in and went to work. This was one of the best massages I've ever had. The attention to detail and hitting all the right areas and pressure points were incredibly relaxing. By the end of the massage, everywhere from my head to my toes was worked on. The only negative was when I went to pay the tax. I used my card for that and told the 2 women at the counter I'd be paying cash for the tip. After tipping, the other woman goes "Excuse me. Maybe next time you can give her a better tip." I politely said no, that was fine, and walked out. I heard them speaking as I walked out. I don't know why people are so bent out of shape nowadays about receiving tips and/or how much.

The East is Red takes its name from the historic theme song for the Chinese Cultural Revolution of…read morethe 1960s. It is also the name of two films about the entire revolutionary course in 20th Century China, from the Japanese invasion in 1938, through Civil War in 1948 and the founding of the Communist regime by Mao Zedong and his fellows in 1949. Thus, it is an odd name for a Chinese spa, where everything is peaceful and relaxing. Nonetheless, the traditional heavy hand massage delivered by Lisa was very good. At $55 for an hour of hands, forearms, elbows and pointed fingers in all the sensitive points in my shoulders, neck, and legs, it was a reasonable deal. Suburban places are never as cheap as in the city, but neither are long drives and parking searches conducive to therapeutic efforts. So, I was quite satisfied. It would be a nice gesture if hot tea or cut fruit were offered at the end of the massage, as is done in China. Here, a small paper cup of cold water would have to do. UPDATE: APRIL 22, 2016 - This visit was a little strange. There is an older gentleman sitting in the waiting room with a pile of papers. He has no apparent connection with the spa, except that when I walked in this time he asked if there was anything he could do for me. His tone was mildly chilly with an undertone of hostility. I guess he works there, but his demeanor is off-putting. My guess, he is married to one of the masseuses. Next, the woman who showed me to the massage room, and was still waiting there when I returned from a stop in the restroom, was not the woman who gave me the massage. She was fine, but I like to be introduced to the person who is going to work on me. I don't enjoy it becoming a shell game. Finally, although they accept credit card payments, this time I was charged a few extra bucks for using one. This is something I have seen in other Chinese places, but there is usually a sign or verbal notice that this is being done. Not here. Not sure I want to go back.

It is easier for everyone involved! I scheduled a reflexology appointment, and the service exceeded my expectations. When I arrived I was pleasantly greeted. It was so relaxing and just overall exactly what I needed. You start out with soaking your feet and a nice back massage. Then the rest of the time is just an amazing foot and leg massage. The only thing is the chairs for the reflexology are right when you walk into the spa, which is how it is in most places, at least the places I have been to, which is fine. But that strip mall has a lot of foot traffic and a restaurant right next door, and there was just a bunch of loud kids that came out of a party from there hanging right outside the window which was a little distracting. Next time I will bring earpods. But I definitely will be back for reflexology and other services.
