In all seriousness though, Nutri Bar is fantastic. Great choice of ready made or made to order Salads, bowls or wraps filled with only healthy options (unless you layer it with cheese like I do). Even the sauces are healthy, you can tell as they are not as sweet as normal, but they still go really well with your healthy lunch! If they had their location in a more prime area, they would make an absolute killing! It's pretty much always busy anyway where it's located, (just opposite David Lloyd gym) and that goes someway to telling you they do a great job! A great spot to grab a quick lunch and head back to the office and also make sure you grab a couple of their tasty 'dessert' options!

After cooking a Thanksgiving feast, I didn't want to do much cooking over the weekend, so I suggested that we finally give Braza a try. I have had Persian food once before... in Shanghai of all places, and really enjoyed it then, so I was looking forward to this. They do takeaway and delivery (free delivery within a certain radius... I think 3 miles) if you don't feel like going out. There is a car park across the street from the restaurant and if you arrive after 6 p.m., it is just £1 to park. Mr. Snarky had suggested that we should call and make a reservation as it might be really busy on a Friday night. By the time we were talking about reservations it was after 5 p.m. so I suggested if they don't have any tables, we order for takeaway. Problem solved. While the restaurant was busy, including two groups of about 6-7, there were still a couple of tables available and we were seated really quickly. There seemed to be one waitress waiting on all the tables, including one particularly demanding table of men, one of who had rudely told her "quickly, quickly" after asking for something. Kind of felt bad for her until I realized that there were others helping, but they were sitting at a table in front of the bar. We sat at a table in front of a Naan baking station. I thought it was pretty cool, although you cannot see most of the process, but it is nice to get warm Naan. The appetizers seemed to be mostly Naan with various dips with a couple of exceptions like the Persian Chicken Wings, Potato Wedges, and Onion Rings. Was a little disappointed to see things like Potato Wedges and Chips on the menu, but I guess it might be an attempt to fit in with the local clientele. I noticed on the sides menu that they also had a number of dips as well as vegetables and salad. The first part of the menu are the grilled meats, while the second part of the menu seemed to have more of a stewed meat feel. There was a vegetarian dish on the second part of the menu. We were worried about ordering the grilled meat as sometimes it can get very dry, especially when served with rice. For our starters, Mr. Snarky ordered the Persian Chicken Wings and I had the Hummous with Naan. While our starters did come quite quickly, everything was hot, including the Naan :). The Persian Chicken Wings were nice, but I really enjoyed their Hummous. Even though it was just regular hummous (no roasted red peppers, etc.) it had more flavour than those store bought concoctions with loads of different ingredients, but still taste like cardboard. I'm going to need their recipe! For the main, we ordered Braza Mixed Kebab plate for two. With each main you get the choice of Rice, Salad, or Chips. We both went with rice. Make sure you are hungry because while this is for two people, it is a sizable feast. Each of us had a heaping plate of Basmati rice and a platter of meats between us. There were two of the minced lamb kebab, a different lamb kebab, and a chicken kebab. Around the plate of meat were grilled tomatoes, fresh herbs, peperoncini (which I love and can never find a jar of while grocery shopping), and sliced gherkins. Mr. Snarky really seemed to enjoy the minced lamb kebab (Koobideh Kebab). It had some lovely seasoning and I do think it was the best seasoned of the three meats. I enjoyed the other lamb kebab (Barg Kebab), lamb filet beaten flat. While I didn't get much of the saffron marinade, the meat was juicy and tender. The chicken was ok, it just didn't have much flavor, but kudos to them because it was juicy. I loved the rice, but I think the whole dish needed some kind of sauce. I guess we could have ordered a dip from the sides menu, but it didn't come to mind as we were stuffing our faces. While we didn't have dessert because we were so full, I did have a look at their desserts menu sitting on the table and I would be interested to come back and try some of the desserts. They have Baklava, which I absolutely love, and Persian flavoured ice creams (Rose Water, Pistachio, or Saffron). They also have something called Faloodeh and it looks like white, thin noodles covered with Rose Water and Syrup. And of course they have some less traditional, less exotic desserts for those that are not quite so adventurous. I understand the conundrum of wanting to have an ethnic restaurant, but also wanting to cater to the local market. Dinner here is very affordable, especially with the amount of food you receive. With two drinks (one alcoholic, one not), two starters, and the meat platter we spent just over £30 and left absolutely stuffed. There is really no excuse for not trying Braza.... especially because they deliver if you don't want to go out!

I've heard a lot of praise for it, so decided to finally give it a try for lunch whilst I was nearby. The first thing you notice is that this big traditional style pub is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. You drive along, and it suddenly pops up out of thin air. It has a big car park, but seems to get busy pretty quickly. I must admit, my first impression on walking through the door wasn't positive. It was very busy, and a frantic looking female staff stood behind a large stack of dirty plates sitting on the "please wait here" podium, and then simply said "two?", before dashing off and then coming back to say "just through there on the right hand side". I would've liked to have been taken there really. The décor is a modern interpretation of a classic pub style, and it works pretty well, remaining efficient and clean looking with bright colours and various bits of art and knick-knacks whilst retaining a traditional atmosphere. It was surprisingly busy throughout the pub for a thursday afternoon, with a bustling but pleasant feel. Once inside you realise the size of the place, with different rooms leading off the main thoroughfare, to booth seating along it. As well as the dining pub option, there is also a large carvery counter further into the pub, where you can choose a plate size for a set price, then go and check out the tasty looking carvery options. We ordered a couple of classics in the form of beer battered cod and chips, and steak and ale pie. The wait time for both was reasonable, and the first thing that hit us was the sheer size of the portions! The food was delicious. I loved the crispy bubbly batter, and the tartare sauce, and Phil R loved the quality of the "oh god, it's half a pie!" he was tucking into. We didn't have room for dessert, but had a good look through the huge book of desserts, puddings and ice creams, and as delicious the descriptions of the sweet treats were, we decided that we'd try their "cake-away" option, where you can take a slice of their cakes home with you to enjoy later. Knowing that their target customer would probably be full by now, but priding themselves on their desserts, this is a clever move! When you get to the desserts counter, you can see how crazy their ice cream presentation is, bordering on American in presentation, but also very tempting! The one thing you'll notice though is the sheer size of the cakes! They're colossal! The slices are £4+ in the menu, which might make you bawk a little until you see the sheer size of the things! We opted for the Millionaire's Cheesecake, and the Banana Chocolate Chip cake, which come in a plastic box with a small tub of cream each. Lovely. We ate them many many hours later, but enjoyed the flavour lots. The banana cake was tasty and moist with lots of flavour, and the cheesecake was tasty, but just too big. The middle layer was a solid 6 inches of pure cheesecake, meaning that you didn't get so much of the base or the top with it, which made it a little hard going. Some of the other cakes appeared similar to me, where the middle was just a bit too large unless it was in layers, but with how popular they obviously are, who am I to question?! I loved it here, it's somewhere I'd be happy to bring my mum and dad sometime and know that they'd enjoy it, and the same with friends and colleagues. It has something for everyone. Phil R already stated that he wants to return there next month for his birthday! That's that then!

They have the full Sunday dinner works, plus more (two different types of mash potato, roast potato, spicy roast potatoes and baby potatoes) and then the veg selection is just a vast, far more variety than other carverys I have been too. The cakes are also out of this world, huge portions and very tasty, it makes Applewood Farm stand out from competitors, the "cake away" option is ideal because there is no way I was going to be eating a giant eclair after my "go large" carvery. If visiting on a Sunday be prepared to wait around 30-45 mins to be seated, there is plenty of space around the bar to enjoy a drink or two while you wait. Great value, we had two large carverys, one cake to take away and four drinks and the bill was less than £30.

I walked into the little cafe, which was bright and fresh on a lovely sunny day, and was warmly greeted and given a big beaming smile by Tracy, the chocolatier and owner. I looked at the food and drinks menu, and the specials menu which offered summer drinks. As a tea lover, I was really impressed at the tea menu, which had a good variety of loose leaf teas to enjoy, from your standard English Breakfast to Darjeeling and beyond. I chose an Earl Grey with cornflour, which was very refreshing and tasty... but as I was sipping it, I spotted rose and bergamot black tea on the shelf... I'll definitely be trying that next time! The tea was excellent quality and even came with suggested timers for brewing times. I've not seen this quality or variety of tea offered outside of Manchester City Centre's tea rooms, but most definitely not for Manchester's prices! The venue itself has a fabulously semi-modern design to it, with beautiful big 70s style geometrics on the walls and crockery, bright colours, and fun little signs. For a small (4 table) cafe, it didn't feel too small! They also sells their own chocolates, little gifts, and greetings cards, which are placed around the edges of the main dining area to catch your eye as you make inappropriate noises of appreciation about your chocolate fondue. From the tasty and tempting food menu I chose a classic ham and cheese toastie, and as well as being offered my choice of bread, and whether I'd like fresh coleslaw or onion chutney, it also came with some crisps and a fresh side salad. I was even asked if I'd like dressing for said salad. I was starting to like this place, they had everything, and after I found out they also took cards as payment, AND had free wi-fi? Definitely a quick way into my good-books even before I've eaten! My ham and cheese toastie was lovely and fresh, and very tasty, especially considering it was very good value considering the quality offered. This is the quality of a city centre venue but at prices reflecting the area. Westhoughton, you're very lucky to have them! At this point I realised that it would surely be a crime to come to a chocolate specialist and not partake, especially given that the quality of the food was so good! Tracy gave me a run-down of what cakes and bakes were on offer (and they all sounded incredible!), as well as which chocolates were available, which you could purchase for a price per individual chocolate, which is a genius idea! I went for Turkish Delight, Limoncello, Salted Caramel and Passionfruit, which Tracy picked out of the display case using a special chocolate-handling glove! Very swish! They were given to me in a cute little teacup, and as you can imagine, they were absolutely sublime! I will most definitely be returning here, not just due to it being close to where I live, not just because the chocolates are lovely and I want more and know I can get them boxed up for gifts, not just because there's lots of other tasty chocolate gifts, not just because of the tasty food and the tea range which I definitely want to try more of, not just because of the friendly and happy customers and staff who gave the place a lovely atmosphere, nor the customer who highly recommended the chocolate fondue, and not just because of the idea of their afternoon teas... ...wait where was I? ...oh yes! I have to come back, because I've been told great things about their hot chocolate... the other things just happen to be a nice side-point! ;) Go along. You'll love it.
