I placed the order over the phone and paid £10.20 for Dal Makhani and a naan when I arrived. Dal Makhani is made with black lentils, and the container was even labelled "Dal Makhani." The guy behind the till even corrected my pronunciation, so I definitely didn't expect to receive something completely different. When I got home about an hour later and opened it, it turned out to be a bland, tasteless tarka dal, not Dal Makhani at all. The naan was average as well. I was quite hungry so I ended up eating about half of it, but it was disappointing.

Both my brother and I felt a tad left out, as most of them are "Chartered", this adds to our mocking of them though. O, good times. But yes, restaurant review time. We walked in, and it was empty, only because it was early, it was rammed by the time we left! It was a nicely decorated Indian, one of the best I think I have seen for a while. The food was on par with presentation, but even better in taste. I had a chicken Jalfrezi, (for those of you who have read my previous Indian reviews) I think it was just as good, if not, better than my local. It was so good! When it came out, it was amazingly presented. It was piled onto the plate, in a bowl shape, to me that little detail, made it even better. The Naan, was just sensational. I loved every bite, and wanted more. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars, was because at the start, the waiters were hovering around, which in all fairness, was because it was empty, but I don't like it when people hovering around, waiting for you to order. But hey, that's only a minor fault, due to it being early. Give it a go!

Recently visited on my visit to London... a nice clean place with good food but very stark lighting…read morewhich made it seem more like a cafeteria than an intimate experience... to his credit one of the partners (its owned by 3 brothers) adjusted the lighting immediately and got a round of applause from the other patrons... The annoying indo- pakistani videos playing on the TV were the only source of music available until he gets the new speaker system installed. Votive candles on each table and a large mirror on the empty wall would do much to improve the lack of ambiance and give the place a larger feel... super friendly owner who was very open to all these ideas and if he follows through I look forward to a return on my next trip... Very good service and good mains but both could use a slight tweaking of the flavours by an experienced chef but definately on the right track... looking forward to next time! Crisco

With long, communal dining tables, and an open kitchen, Gifto's offers interesting sights, sounds,…read moreand smells in addition to delicious Pakistani food. Without the slightest intent of eavesdropping, you hear the juiciest gossip about people you probably will never know. I've now been to Gifto's on three occasions, all at lunchtime, when the restaurant is not nearly as busy as it gets in the evenings. Everything I've tried has been fresh and delicious. The magaz (sheep brain) masala is the best offal dish I've had in many years. The ginger chicken and chili chicken have the perfect flavor profies. Among the breads, the roghni naan (with a very generous topping of sesame seeds) and the tawa paratha are outstanding. I could eat the tawa paratha every afternoon with my tea, and be a happy man. I've never had any issues with the service at Gifto's but I can see how it can come off as somewhat indifferent, especially for those of us visiting from the US, where service is generally oversolicitous.

The area is a little sketchy and parking is horrendous but the food definitely made up for it. I took pictures of the open kitchen because it smelled wonderful and was entertaining for me to watch them cook. We tried a little bit of everything and they all tasted fantastic. My favorite was the paneer and the okra. I can't speak for the price/value, since I'm not familiar with cost in the UK, but the food tasted great and I'm still thinking about it.
