Done takeout from Masala Express twice now, the food was not bad but they messed up our orders both times. Upon calling them to sort it out they seem as if they are the ones who are inconvenienced by the situation. I understand that accidents do happen, but their overall lack of empathy after messing up the order is disappointing. read more

Every time I come to Merced, I take the time to come to this restaurant. It's traditional incredible service and the most important part is they have Bollywood on the TV all day long. Sam is the owner, he's incredibly cordial and friendly. You'll be lucky if he waits your table, get yourself the vindaloo and ask for it spicy if you want a taste of what traditional Indian food is like. I went for the lunch buffet on a Tuesday. You get two pieces of Naan (plain or garlic), then buffet style chicken and veg dishes. The food is good. The people working there are great. They have raita, pickle, and chutneys at the buffet to complete the dish. Also, they have the metal thali plates to keep your different meal parts in place. I will definitely be going back. If you enjoy fresh, quality Indian food this restaurant is the place for you. My husband stopped in last week and had the lunch special and kept telling me we had to go. Tonight it was probably the best dinner out experience I've had in Merced. Their customer service is top notch, the restaurant is clean, and the food full of rich Indian flavors. But I ordered the Butter Chicken, and some Naan' I feel so played on the portion size ‍ I ordered a entree, these folks gave me a sample plate, $20 down the drain, 3 small chicken nuggets had more meat then they gave me' folks just pass, maybe they seen that I was Hispanic , I'm almost sure of it, they young guy came out from the back after I ordered and headed back to prepare my food' Janky is what they are that day, but atleast I was offered some water while I waited 20 minutes for my small plate. Very good food and amazing service. Able to pick your spice level, I went with medium which was perfect. Portion size was great for the price. I was most impressed with the service and friendliness of the employee who helped us, I think he might have been the owner. We ordered to go and while we waited he brought us water and let us sample one of our orders to make sure it tasted okay. Very rare to go somewhere and receive amazing service and have someone who smiles and wants to make your experience great for you. Place was also very clean and open until 9pm. read more

My Word i nvernever had such a great food experience and the service was wonderful the PRIcE was great ... i had chicken and shrimp the butter fry bread and rice the shrimp was to die for it had this red crust on it was delicious with the green and brown dipping sauces just a fabulous I wish I would have known the names of the stuff however when I go back which will be soon I am going to make sure and jot down the names of these and I will give another review very very awesome place and great service the serving dishes were actually very intriguing read more

Tried this after seeing it on Merced Street News. Very friendly, was an exciting environment & clean. Being honest Tandoori chicken was amazing, naan was good. Chicken tikki masala was good but i cant say its better then a taste of little india, which is our go to spot. Its a tad sweeter to my liking even at the spicy level. Would i go back? Yes, definitely worth supporting if im not wanting to go across town. read more

The food was delicious. This is my favorite food since childhood and this did not disappoint. One of the owners even called me when my food was ready because they didn't want the food to get cold. We stopped on the way back from yosemite. The service, ambience and food all three were on spot along with the portion sizes and prices. The food came on time, prepared fresh and authentic to taste. We got the kebob platter and butter chicken with nans. We enjoyed it a lot. read more

We stopped by this place on our way back from Yosemite to San Francisco. This was one of the few Indian restaurants on our way that was open after 8pm. We ordered 3 curries for 4 adults. But the quantity was very less, we had to order one more. We tried paneer tikka masala, shahi paneer, navratna korma and some chicken dish with coconut gravy. Asked to make it medium spicy. The paneer and chicken dishes was perfect to our liking. The garlic naan was little crispier than expected, but very tasty. We tried the green chilli naan, it was good, but only if you have tolerance for green chillies. We tried the sweet peshwari naan with coconut for dessert. It was heavenly. Masala chai and mango lassi were ok. We plan to dine here again on our next trip to Yosemite. Special thanks to their awesome service.
