My favorite place for Sushi and Japanese. My girlfriends and I meet here for lunch once a month and I usually have the Chirashi or sashimi salad, both very good. The namesake, Masa, is at the other restaurant AZU which is just as good but not as central. When available, the broiled Squid is very good. Also check to see if they have Grouper Cheeks, another delicious appetizer or meal if ordered with rice. Nice atmosphere. read more

After much hype, I was wholly let down by my first experience at Masa. Upon first glance it seems to be an elegant, upscale Asian fusion restaurant, but the quality of food just didn't match up to their reputation. I got the tuna steak, crab wontons, and tom yum soup. The the tuna steak was extremely over-charred, dry, and lacking flavor. The tom yum soup was the worst that I've had here in Tally thus far for the price. The saving grace was the crab wontons, which really puts the whole experience into perspective. Anyone can deep-fry something and make it taste good. This is my favorite restaurant in Tallahassee. Every time I visit Tallahassee I make sure to stop here for a meal. Today I had sushi for an appetizer and sea bass as an entree. Every dish was incredible. I had the cheesecake for dessert also incredible. Can't wait for my next visit. read more

I had Teriyaki Chicken for lunch in this place. OMG Chicken is so soft I never that much soft chicken in any restaurant. I will definitely recommend this place. And I also had Teriyaki Chicken roll sushi it is also so good. Nice ambiance and parking is available at this place. read more

Masa you have my heart. I love the lunch specials you have especially the $9 pad Thai and beef/broccoli plate. Both dishes are amazing! For drinks, I've only tried their water which is to die for and their alcoholic beverage called The Great Wave. TRY IT. It's a pretty fruity drink and tastes fantastic. I always have like 4 of them when I go. Now let's talk Sushi because it's the best food in the entire world. Although Masa has amazing cooked food, their sushi is definitely lacking. They have a spicy tuna appetizer that is really good, but their rolls aren't the best. Don't get me wrong, they aren't bad, but Tallahassee has way better sushi places. Wait staff is great, they are a very nice people. Wouldn't recommend going here if you want sushi though. Just my opinion. I love you forever Masa. :) read more

My pal and I sat at the bar and enjoyed delicious meals served by a delightful team member whose main job was as a mixologist. I had enjoyed Lucy Ho's Masa Restaurant prior to its recent relocation. Very nice former Mexican spot has been refreshed nicely. I've eaten lunch twice here. One of my favorites, Masa will compete with neighboring Asian favorite Siam Sushi. A great place too. read more

MASA is terrible. the sushi is the least fresh in town aside from robotos and the prices are through the roof. sure they offer blue fin on the menu but it tasted frozen and it's a terrible cut of the fish. one time i ordered a chilean seabass dish and the center of my fish was ice cold. after my last visit i've promised myself i'll never go back to MASA again. read more

Lovely dinner for my brother's birthday. Something for everyone. Had seared tuna salads and Thai curry and a sampling of sashimi offerings, and shared. I'm shocked by all the bad reviews on this place. I had a really great time! I came here with a friend in the early afternoon on a roadtrip. We had crab-topped sushi that was to die for - their selection was pretty great. Their tempura was good too. They didn't mind the two of us stepping outside with our tea to have smoke. There wasn't really outdoor seating, but there was a ledge (maybe a bench?) with enough room for us to sit and relax under shade. Our waitress was even nice enough to pop outside and let us know our food was ready :] The lighting was light and calm, and everything had that "Americanized Japanese" feel to me. It wasn't bad, just not my type. The food was great, the staff was awesome. I totally recommend this place. read more

We had a terrible meal here. Some okay apps (overpriced, underwhelming edamame, less than crunchy shiitake tempura). Conch sashimi was okay. Three rolls which were the worst I have ever had. None had whole pieces of fish (chopped fish?!), all were dry, poorly rolled and tasteless. Do yourself a favor and check out Kitcho if you feel like sushi in Tallahassee. read more

Went for dinner at Masa now that it's at the new location. Take they are so busy. I ordered the Mongolian Beef which I've ordered so many time at their other location. when it came it looks amazing but when I started to eat the meat it was soooo tough and I could barely chew it. For whatever the reason I didn't tell our waitress its probably was because she was too busy to bother to come to our table. She asked me if I needed a to go box.....I said sure. I guess back in the day when I served I would of asked if there was anything wrong but when you are soooo busy get them in and get them out.....so so disappointed. read more

The food was good but this restaurant is surprisingly rigid with their menu and the sides. Even after speaking with the manager it was simply we have never done that. Could not even really explain why, only that they never have so they couldn't. Then to end it all they brought the wrong side when I selected an option from the rice or noodle selection that they had given. She brought out some gluten free soy sauce for me and also made sure my sushi rolls were gluten free, asked the chefs about the oils that were used and what not and I ate there with no issues! This place...where do I start. Very, very pleasant surprise. The menu is full of great options, their side options are great, and their sushi is on point. I ordered a salad and got a bowl with garden vegetables, sloshing around in about an inch of salad dressing -- which I did not order, nor was I asked if I wanted. Gross. It was probably one of the worse experiences in table waiting, and one of the worse salads I have ever eaten in a restaurant. In fairness I did have a worse salad at a different restaurant, not Masa, 14 years ago -- that's how bad (memorable) it was at Masa -- The waitress was clueless. It's decent. My penang braised beef was OK but for the price I expected better, and next time will stick with the somewhat lower priced regular items of that sort. My sushi was average. Better is possible in both cases but this is a common level of these cuisines that you find lots of places. It will do if you're in the mood. read more
