I had a pretty weird experience here because my girl and I actually visited twice in the same night, and the two visits couldn't have been more different. Our first stop was just a quick pregame before heading to another restaurant. We seated ourselves, and within a few minutes a server greeted us, introduced himself, and brought us menus. We kept it simple and ordered chips and salsa along with a taco since we didn't want to fill up we headed to the other restaurant. The chips and salsa were a great start. This was my first time being served a while fried tortillas instead of traditional tortilla chips, we had to break off tortillas yourself, which was a fun twist. Both the red and green salsas were delicious. I got a little heavy-handed with the red salsa because it definitely had some heat, but it was still really flavorful. The green salsa was my favorite. My girl ordered a taco since they have discounted tacos after 9 p.m., and it was really good. The service during our first visit was excellent. Our server struck up a conversation after finding out I was from Vallejo, and he mentioned his girlfriend was from Vallejo too. We ended up chatting for a bit about the area, and it made the experience feel very welcoming. Later that night, we decided to come back to actually have dinner, and unfortunately, this visit was the complete opposite. We arrived about 35 minutes before closing, so I completely understand that the staff was getting ready to wrap things up. However, the first thing our waitress said was that they would be closing in 30 minutes and that we needed to order our food immediately because the kitchen was about to close. She also told us to order any drinks right away because the bar would be closing too. I understand letting customers know, but the delivery felt rushed and came across as more of an inconvenience than a welcome. For dinner we ordered the Baja fish taco, surf and turf taco, Korean fried chicken taco, pork belly taco, and carne asada taco. My girl ordered a margarita, and I had mocktail that had a hint of pineapple, I wish I could remember the name because it was excellent. As for the tacos, they were a mixed bag. (FYI the tacos are discounted after 9 PM). Baja fish taco was good, and my girl enjoyed pork belly taco with the pickled red onions. The Korean fried chicken taco was interesting. It wasn't served on a traditional tortilla, and while I wasn't completely sold on it, I'd be willing to give it another try. The biggest disappointment was the carne asada. Both the carne asada taco and the surf and turf taco had meat that was extremely crunchy, almost like the bits left at the bottom of the grill. It really affected the texture and made those tacos much less enjoyable. To top it off, while we were still eating, our waitress brought over the payment device, and her attitude remained just as unpleasant as when we first sat down. It made us feel like she couldn't wait for us to leave rather than wanting us to enjoy our meal. I understand we came in close to closing time, and I always respect that employees want to finish their shift. But if a restaurant is still open and seating guests, I believe those customers should receive the same level of hospitality as anyone who came in earlier. Because our first visit was so good, I know this place is capable of providing a great experience. The menu has a lot of tacos I'd still like to try, so might to give them another chance. Hopefully next time the service matches the quality we experienced during our first visit.
I ordered the Impossible asada tacos plate with Chilly relleno. I want to express my gratitude to the waitress for asking if I wanted vegetarian beans. I can't recall her name, but I appreciate her thoughtful gesture. As always, the service and food were excellent.
Haven't been to a Mas Taco for a while and had a nice lunch at this location Sunday. We sat on the patio and enjoyed our tacos. My friend and I got individual tacos - I had carne asada and battered fish and she had Birria and Korean fried chicken. Our other friend got the plate with rice and beans. Everything was tasty and our server was great.
Love coming to this location for delicious food, great happy hour deals, and good times at a walkable location next to other great spots. There is tons of seating here, inside at booths and tables, the bar, and outside. It's bright, colorful, and beautiful inside. The staff are great, the drinks are tasty, and I think they have great prices. My favorite things to get here are the baja fish taco, pork belly taco, and carnitas taco. They also have a good looking breakfast/brunch menu that I am definitely interested in trying. I recommend trying this spot out especially if you want to play pool across the street or get drinks nearby.
Love mas taco bar. I've been to a few of their locations, but this one is my favorite. I ordered the Baja tacos and loved them like always. I think they're just so good. I also had a nice margarita, it was refreshing! I will definitely be back to this location. I'm glad they're open late for late night bites after a night out. The service has also been great. The ambiance is similar to its other locations. It's very inviting and open which I like. I'll for sure be back!
This was my time here and I wasn't sure what to expect. We had a concert across the street at Ace of Spades and decided to grab a bite to eat. We were served immediately and offered drinks. Their taco menu has something for everyone. I ordered a short rib, carnitas, carne asada and something off their global menu. Everything was delicious and will definitely be back.
Took a break from Mas Tacos for several years. Upon returning I am not sure why I stopped going lol. The menu has evolved I noticed a few items were gone like the Steak/Egg and Oyster tacos. The new Chili Relleno taco was great, Drunken Chicken meh, Fish Taco small compared to Oscars but the Banh Mi Shrimp taco is still incredibly original and delicious. Mas is still a great spot to grab a bite and have some drinks.
I've visited Mas Taco Bar a couple times over the years and on the latest visit we stopped in on a Thursday night during a night out for a friend's birthday. It was getting late and we arrived a little over a half hour before closing. We checked to make sure they were ok with us grabbing a seat and ordering some food and drinks so close to closing time and they assured us it was ok. We all ordered drinks and tacos and it's always fun exploring their menu and trying some of the different flavor offerings. I ended up ordering their banh mi shrimp taco ($4.65), Thai beef taco ($4.65), Pork Belly taco ($4.65), and grilled corn on the cob ($5.25). The corn was a great choice, it was one ear of corn broken in two pieces and served with mayonnaise crema, chili powder, cotija cheese and cilantro. I would order this every time, but I also love corn on the cob. I shared this with a friend and we both agreed it was great, Out of the tacos the pork belly was my favorite, followed by the Banh Mi Shrimp, and then the Thai Beef- the flavors were great on all of them but the beef was a little tough. Everyone in my party loved the food and we had fun talking and even were able to have some birthday cake before heading out and home. The staff was so friendly and kind throughout the visit and we're glad we had the chance to stop in. I definitely won't wait as long before my next visit.
the food was really good, i liked the squash blossom avocado taco (secret taco) and the kfc taco is always legit. the beans were really tasty today too. service was a bit slow and annoying because of the seat yourself approach. they have plenty of outdoor and indoor seating space. you can pay with apple pay if you forget a credit card or cash!
Mas Taco Bar was a great Valentine's Day choice. The atmosphere was lively but still relaxed enough to enjoy a date night. They had a special "couples" margarita for two, a giant pour with two straws, which felt festive without being gimmicky. It was well balanced, refreshing, and perfect to share. For food, I had the braised short rib taco and the Korean fried chicken taco as part of a plate that came with rice and beans. Both tacos were flavorful and well executed. The short rib was tender and rich, and the Korean fried chicken had a nice balance of crisp texture and bold flavor. The rice and beans were solid and rounded out the plate well. My partner ordered a two-taco plate and was equally happy with the choices. We started with guacamole. Instead of standard chips, they serve tostada shells that you break apart yourself, which was a fun and slightly different touch. The guacamole was fresh and well seasoned. For dessert, we had the churros -- warm, crisp on the outside, soft inside, and definitely worth ordering. Overall, everything we tried -- appetizer, tacos, drinks, and dessert -- was genuinely delicious. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout the evening, which made the experience even better. The menu offers a lot of variety, and the energy of the space makes it a fun spot for a casual night out or celebration. We'd go back.
After Pride Parade we walked to Mas Tacos . I wanted to try something different so I ordered the crunchy meat taco and the birria taco, and my daughter ordered the fish tacos. Not sure what her drink was called but it was really good . It was a nice way to end the day. Would I go back? Been there, done that
Street parking or pay to park in private lot. You come in seat yourself and then wait for waitress to bring menus. We came when they just opened so it took a while to get menus and for them to take our orders. It's my first time here. I tried their birria taco which was lacking in flavor and the surf and turf the beef was chewy and also lacked in flavor. I loved the bun that it was in that was good so was the shrimp. My friend got the shrimp banh mi taco on naan. The shrimp was battered and had good flavors.
Spacious restaurant with a great happy hour deal on the weekdays with unique taco options. I came here on a Thursday night for their happy hour, and it was a great experience overall. There's ample seating both inside and out. We ordered the al pastor nachos, which were very filling and loaded. We also tried various tacos since it was one dollar off each. We tried the Chicharron, shrimp bao, chicken, al pastor, and fish tacos. All of them were great and it was fun to try so many different options. Our server was really friendly and the food came out fairly quickly. Overall, a great spot to hang out with a large group, especially during happy hour!
I haven't been here in awhile since I moved away, but it is always on my list when I return to town. I have thouroughly enjoyed the variety of fresh ingredients and range of syles of food here. The cocktails are a little above a dive bar. Good, but not incredible. I was slightly disappointed by the pastor taco. The meat had been sitting out for awhile and had dried out in the warmer. There are some other interesting options now, like butter chicken. It is not a traditional mexican place, but a bit of fusion here and there. The service was very attentive and the bartender was quite friendly. read more

I have had so many good experiences here-- and this is my first review! Their salsas are great, a delicious spicy one and one green regular one with great tomatillo flavor. The watermelon margarita is my fav, and the HABANERO BALLS...... my fiancée begs us to go just for these every time we visit. Not too spicy at all but they're just fried balls of delicious cheese and the mango sauce is incredible to pair with!!!! Only complaint is the mas fries that had a small layer of toppings... once the top thin layer was gone, it was bare fries, basically. The carne on it was ok, a small drizzle of sauce. Those could definitely be leveled up with way more sauce and meat. Service is always good & consistent timing. Happy hour is m-f 3-6pm with half off apps, so it's a greatttt time to go. I adore this spot. Cute vibes and a cute bar too. Highly recommend! read more

Mas Tacos was a disappointment for brunch, especially for a large group. We came with about 15 people and everyone ordered the bottomless mimosas -- which turned out to be bottomless orange juice. They were bright orange, flat, and tasted like they had only the slightest splash of champagne. On top of that, our server took ages to refill them and only brought one small carafe at a time, which barely covered two or three glasses. Paying for "bottomless" felt pointless. I ordered a taco that was tasty but extremely small for nearly $5. Someone in our group ordered a burrito, took one bite, and didn't want to finish it. Most of the food around the table was just mediocre. Service wasn't great either -- our server wasn't very attentive, especially for a big group. The only real positive is the location in the heart of Midtown, which is convenient. But overall, I wouldn't recommend Mas Tacos for brunch, and definitely not for bottomless mimosas. read more
Mad Taco bar has become "ol reliable" when I come into town, and their selection of fantastic and creative flavors is always a delight! It is unlikely they have a taco I have not tried, and I honestly recommend nearly every one! Anything that has the Korean / Vietnamese bao bun is amazing, and the short rib is always delicious. Service is great, and I like the choice of patio vs. inside. The drinks are also fun! read more

They have good happy hour here. I mainly go for happy hour whether it's with friends or coworkers to hang out. Food is good, there's lots of seating indoor and outdoor and many other restaurants around that are walking distance. I like the mas fries, and the al pastor tacos and potato taco. I've always had the happy hour food and appetizers. The mock tails are good too. Parking can get tricky since it's in an area you have to pay. There's a small lot next to it, but I usually pay for street metered parking. The service is good. It seems we don't have a dedicated server, so they work as a group and check on is periodically so no one gets overwhelmed. I'll come back. read more

The tacos are really great! I've had a few different ones, and they offer a large selection of unique tacos which is cool. The restaurant is very aesthetic, great for pictures and events. I didn't have the best service unfortunately when I went. The waitress didn't put my friends order in and I got my food 30 minutes before she got hers and she had to sit and watch me eat for quite a while before the issue was resolved. The ceviche I ordered also lacked seasoning and really could've used some salt and pepper. read more

Came by last Friday night by complete surprise, was supposed to go for drinks at the Snug turned into late night happy hour at Mas Taco bar! I must say they had their ups in downs but all around we left happy with the service. My lady and I decided to grab some of their tacos and margaritas to end our night. I ordered the Birria Taco & Baja Fish Taco. Birria taco was a 4/5 & the consume was perfectly seasoned, sooo good. The Baja was smothered a bit too much in the chipotle mayo sauce so it was very overpowering, not my favorite. My date enjoyed both the Impossible Taco & Baja Taco but ultimately returned the Banh Mi, was not a fan of the flavor. We both enjoyed a couple of Margaritas, I ordered the Guava & she ordered the Watermelon Basil. Both drinks were super refreshing and had that nice kick of alcohol at the end! Overall the vibes were great, our server was a nice and welcoming. I would come back and try other items on the happy hour next time! read more

Come for happy hour! The 1/2 off appetizers make it so worth it! This has been such a great addition to R Street. For a snack or a smaller portion-size, they are hard to beat. I really enjoyed their monthly secret taco, I'm not sure if they're doing that anymore. There is patio seat outside, so we were able to bring our dog. The inside is also decorated very well with a large bar in the middle and plenty of seating around the restaurant. The staff are generally friendly, but the service may sometimes be lacking. Generally, they put utensils and napkins on the table in a cup, but if you don't have one, you have to ask for it. We arrived with friends who have a seafood and nut allergy, they were very gracious in flagging that for us. They mentioned that most of the fried meats are cooked in the same burner as seafood, but tortillas, chips, and tostadas are not. I generally always order off of the happy hour menu if I have the chance to. I ordered the Mas fries and the chips and guacamole. There are several tacos that are a dollar off for happy hour as well. The pulled pork nachos also looked fantastic. Some of our favorite tacos include the Indian butter chicken on naan bread, the Korean fried chicken on a laughing bun, Thai beef, and the impossible meat, and the banh mi shrimp on a laughing bun. We were a little disappointed by the battered fish taco the fish was fried well, however even with the sauce on it, it lacked a lot of flavor. The Mas Fries were great, lots of crispy Carne Asada, and plenty of crema, guacamole, and cilantro. The fry texture is not the best, but the serviceable when loaded with other goodies. read more
We came here for the happy hour during the week day! We found out there were select tacos and margaritas that qualified for the happy hour and not all of the tacos or margaritas. We ordered a couple from the happy hour menu but we definitely dove into the other tacos. The top tacos we tried were the fish taco and the crispy Korean beef taco! You can never go wrong with the taco menu here, they are all amazingly delicious! The chef here is a taco mastermind incorporating different types of tacos outside of the basic taco truck. From the indican curry taco, to the Korean beef taco, to the fish tacos, you will always get a wide, tasteful variety of delicious tacos! The meat is always juicy and marinated to appease your taste buds. We ordered the giant margarita which did seem to be about 70% ice. It seemed like there might be two margs in it between all the ice in the cup but it was still delicious and shareable. Más tacos is a must try if you've never been here before! Seat yourself lunch service. Waitress was super nice. Ordered pozole and some tacos. 4 stars for creativity...but overall, only 3-stars for taste. Was waiting for an explosion of flavor, was met with just ok flavor. Salsa on the carnitas was bitter tasting, al pastor had pineapple on top but no flavor of pineapple in the pork. Overall, felt like acid was needed but even that lime couldn't bring it up enough for me. read more

We were seeing a show at Ace of Spades across the street & arrived early to the area. After surveying the block's food options, we settled on Mas Taco Bar. Its front patio was ideal for soaking up the heat. Their version of a michelada had jalapeño slices floating in it without any of the spiciness. We shared Grilled Corn on the Cob ($4.25) which had yummy elote fixins & Habañero Fire Balls ($8.95) that was a little boring despite being very cheesy. I started with a more traditional taco, Drunken Chicken ($4.15), the beer braised chicken coated in tomatillo sauce, then moved on to a more unique offering for a taco spot -- Banh Mi Shrimp ($4.65.) Served in a bun rather than corn tortilla, this checked off all the Vietnamese boxes of pickled veggies, cilantro, & a sour-sticky Asian sauce. Delicious, but I wouldn't categorize it as a taco, per se. My bf enjoyed his tacos, as well, & commented that he'd never had such a meaty pork belly taco before! (Usually fat is its main ingredient, but not this one.) While our servers were nice when they finally came around, we were pretty much neglected from the time we sat down til the time they almost forgot to bring out our dessert. Not a deal breaker, especially with their tasty fare at rock-bottom prices, but I might seek out a different eatery if I were on a time crunch. read more
Mas Taco Bar was a great find! We ended up here after wanting to eat at a different nearby restaurant but were disappointed to find out they were only serving brunch. Luckily, Mas Taco Bar serves both brunch and their regular taco menu on Saturdays! We got a selection of 6 tacos to enjoy. The braised short rib and ribeye steak taco were hands down our favorite. The crispy Thai beef was also amazing but a bit on the spicy side. The butter chicken taco was clever, but I'd probably skip it next time along with the Baja fish as it was just slightly under seasoned. The service here is mostly good, but it is seat yourself so I imagine sometimes it may take some time for someone to notice you if they are busy. Food did come out very quickly after ordering! The location is great with a beautiful indoor and patio space. We sat outside and it was a perfect day for lunch on the patio. I really loved Mas Tacos and although I'm not in Sacramento often, I do want to keep it in mind for future visits. There were a few bites here I know I'll be thinking about for a while! read more

We came on a late night to get some tacos since the other local taco restaurant has an INSANE line. The wait time for here was equally as long :( we waited about a little more than half an hour on their *text* wait line. I thought the tacos were very tasty but just very expensive. The flavor almost made up for the price but the price is just too much. Therefore, I cannot give this establishment a 5 star review, even though their flavor is there. You most likely won't be leaving for under $40 for a couples night out. TLDR/Bottom line: pretty good tacos but crazy prices read more
Great place to grab a quick bite when going out with the girls on a night out! Obviously, the tacos aren't super authentic lol but they have unique flavors, a lot of variety and infusions with other cultures. My favorite taco to get from here is the indian butter chicken one. The meat is super tender and flavorful. Server was quick and the food came out fast. I love their drinks here, great place to socialize. read more
Mas Taco Bar was recommended to me by a Sacramento Local, so I decided to give it a shot. First and foremost, This is a fusion taco bar, so don't expect authentic street style tacos here. We were on a mission and ordered a couple of them for a taste test. From favorite to my least favorite- *Korean Fried Chicken Taco- 4/5 The Bao bun was so soft, chicken was crispy and not greasy and the kimchi bought the whole taco together *Banh Mi Shrimp Taco -3.5/5 Wrapped in a Bao Bun, the elements of a Banh Mi definitely through. I wish it had more shrimp *Battered Fish Taco-3/5 Light & Crispy. Refreshing for a nice hot summer day. *Indian Butter Chicken- 2/5 Although I liked the idea behind this taco, it was my least favorite. To me the flavor profile was not giving Indian Butter chicken as it should have. The naan bread was a nice touch. Service was not great. But I would definitely give this place another try, more preferably on a busy day. read more
We came in on a Friday night and were immediately seated. We were pleasantly surprised by their late night happy hour of $3 tacos and $6 margaritas, which was quite a steal. There were so many different taco options I wanted to try them all. I had the Thai taco which was the perfect amount of spicy and crunchy.
