We stopped in Grants Pass on our way home from SoCal to Seattle area. I was intrigued by the Yelp reviews and menu. Since we were unfamiliar with Dominican food, we asked for guidance from the owner. He recommended a bowl with yellow rice, fried plantains and red beans. We chose chicken and added the cabbage with avocado dressing. We shared a small bowl while waiting for our MQC sandwich to be made. The bowl was wonderfully flavorful with great textures. We fought over the plantain. The MQC sandwich is an invention by the owner, a fusion of Dominican foods and flavors. We followed his recommendation and chose pork. It was delicious - one of the most amazing meals I have had. The fried plantain "bun", the homemade sauce, the pork, everything was balanced and amazing. The inside is colorful and comfortable. The service was friendly and helpful. The food was outstanding. We ordered the small bowls so we would have space for the guava/cheese empanada (solid choice for a dessert). We had a pork and a beef bowl, both MQC'd, highly recommend as the salami and plantains were a great addition. A friend that joined us after we ordered had the MCQ sandwich, the "bread" is a plantain! He eats there quite a bit, so he knew just what to order-looked fantastic. Awesome little joint, friendly operators, clean & attractive facilities. First time ever having Dominican food so I was a bit lost with the menu but I had the bowl with Braised Beef and Chicken, it hit the spot for sure. The meat was slow cooked, didn't need the knife really the meat just fell apart, so flavorful! Not fast eats but not slow, good food takes a bit more time, price is alright too. I travel about 10 months of the year, so I eat out quite a bit. Every time I get to a new town I try to find something nude different. Well I hit a home run on the first week. I was here with this amazing restaurant. I cannot speak highly enough of their food, their staff, and the atmosphere. I got two separate dishes as I have never tried this style of cuisine. Whenever I hear of or find a restaurant that has a fresh Latin dishes that I just had to try. I had seen some really good reviews and after pulling up the menu online I became hungry. O.M.G ! Everything we ordered was very fresh, tasty, and steeped with flavor that only a knowledgeable Latin cook would know. O.M.G. So delicious. My mom was Costa Rican, and the dishes she cooked had such a blend of Latin spices that made everything so flavorful. I've had lots of Latin food but Mas Que Chimi is BY FAR the best I've had. Not only is this some of the best latin food I've had but it's some of the best food in general! Fresh passionfruit juice was sweet and Tart. Empanadas were filled, flavorful, had a delicious crust. The coconut milk mango salmon sauce was one of the best coconut sauces I've ever had. Incredible food and friendly staff! I wish I could bring Mas Que Chimi back home to California with me. We started with some empanadas, YUM! They were a great size and I loved the dough. I always love to try a restaurant's signature item, so of course had to get their namesake, the Mas Que Chimi! Its a sandwich with your choice of meat (chicken, pork, or beef) but in lieu of bread its deliciously thin fried plantains. The sandwich was FILLED with avocado, meat, fried cheese, cabbage, fried salami, and their mouth-watering sauce. We also had the salmon entree that's smothered in the most delectable mango and pineapple coconut sauce, with a side of rice, beans and a salad. My husband wanted to lick the plate! To wash all of this down, we had their natural passion fruit juice which came with edible straws! I've had fresh maracuyá juice plenty of times before and this was definitely was some of the best. The edible straw was so fun and surprisingly tasty too. The ambiance is tropical and fun, clean tables and clean restrooms. Plenty of parking. Way off where no one would know, in a back corner of Grants Pass, is a little restaurant with pleasantly spiced and lovingly created dishes, drinks, and desserts. The food is savory, unique, and delicious. Even some of the beverages are handcrafted with intricate care. I have yet to see anyone in the place, although they have five tables, and doing so is worth the experience. But they do have a steady stream of drivers coming to deliver, and there is a reason for that. I've been following on Instagram for a little while now. Today, I finally got to go in and was not disappointed! The menu is actually bigger than I thought it would be and reasonably priced. They prefaced our order with a 20-25 minute wait time and really appreciated the communication. There are a few tables inside and it felt very homey. We ordered the braised chicken meal that comes with rice and beans and a small side salad and a guava/cheese empanada. We also got a passion fruit juice. While I was visiting GP, I heard that a Dominican restaurant opened up in town. I was shocked that there were Dominicans in Grant's Pass. I had to try it! My only regret is that I went to this restaurant on my last day in town. This is truly authentic Dominican food from the Caribbean. I got a "Chimi de pierna" (pork sandwich). Every bite was full of flavor and deliciousness that ever human being should try. The owner was SOO friendly & and hospitable. I honestly could have talked to her for hours. I also got rice beans & beef to go. The ambiance inside looked exactly as if it were your average restaurant in the Dominican Republic. This leave is a hidden gem in Grant's Pass, I sincerely hope this business flourishes because the food is to die for.
