I have been receiving treatment at Rad Orthodontics (at 3 of their various offices) since I was…read morearound 11 years old. I am now 23. I have received excellent orthopedic work from this practice. Their staff (particularly Jebi, and every receptionist and prep staff I've ever me there) has also been incredibly kind and helpful to me. Dr. David Rad always takes the time to answer any questions about treatment and always makes me feel comfortable. Rad Orthodontics also offers payment plans to aid in paying high fees for things such as invisalign. My only complaint is that Dr. Mehdy Rad has upset me to the point of tears two times when I was still under 18. Once, when I was around 14, I believe, Dr. Mehdy was removing glue from my teeth with a drill and asked me to move my tongue out of the way. He did not specify which direction to move it. I could not remember where exactly he was drilling, so I just tried to move my tongue down. Without waiting more than 10 seconds, he said "Ok, don't move it" **and proceeded to put the drill back in my mouth, against my tongue** My mother was sitting with me and witnessed this. I did not bleed, but this scared me, and hurt very badly. To this day, I am afraid whenever a dental drill goes anywhere near my mouth. This experience was traumatizing. It is just one of example of Dr. Mehdy's lack of kindness and patience. There was still glue left on my teeth after this. Several years later, I still could not handle the feeling of the drill in my mouth or on my teeth. During another appointment when Dr. Mehdy was using the drill, I stated that I needed to stop. He stopped, and then said: "I have hundreds of patients every week. None of them besides you has a problem with this." His reply was invalidating and rude. My problem with dental drills started because of him. In general, Dr. Mehdy Rad does good orthopedic work; his unkindness does not affect this in any way. But he is condescending and impatient. I would not recommend his services, especially to anyone who might be sensitive, like kids. Dr. David Rad is much kinder.

I ended up not making an appointment after I called and found out that, unlike what their website…read moreappears to claim, they don't actually do sedation dentistry. Why do you have it on your website when you don't actually do it? Why is there no disclaimer that you don't actually do it? That's quite unethical. Additionally, they told me to remove my Google review and then told me that I was never there and therefore I wasn't allowed to review them. That's not how it works people. I tried to make an appointment with you only to find out that your website was misleading customers by making it look like you have dental sedation when you don't. Then you lied about not having it on your website. You do, in fact, have it on your website. Right under the dental anxiety section, and when you click on that link, it literally says at the top of the page. "IMPROVE YOUR NEXT APPOINTMENT WITH DENTAL SEDATION" That's incredibly misleading. I'd hate to think what your care quality is considering this wasn't up to par and you decided to try to discredit people who point it out. Not my fault you decided to mislead people on your website. You should fix that.

I was referred to Dr. Avila by my general dentist and so far so good. I was told that i had a limited case that would take around 14 months to complete. My insurance paid some and I paid the rest is on a payment plan. It took about 3 weeks from the time i was scanned to until i got my invisalign. **the first day** I came in very excited to get my treatment started ( i called off work, i was not sure how this would be) also i had just came from Cancun the day before. The initial appointment was 1 hour and a half. I ate before i went because i knew that it would be awhile before i ate again. I was not aware that i had to get attachments put on my teeth, so I went in thinking i would get my invisalign , they would show me how to put them on and life would go on. Boy was i wrong. step 1- The dental assistant did a mild cleaning on my teeth with something that was extremely sour step 2- attachments glued onto my teeth(feels like permanent plaque, the worst feeling ever) step 3 - invisalign placed on for the first time. After they were placed I was thinking "hey this is easy" but I remembered other reviews that I had read about the pain and my orthodontist told me the pain would kick in later and to take some Tylenol. A year later, My teeth are almost where I want them, the office is great at setting and reminding of appointments, I always go during my lunch time and I am in and out in less than an hour and anything I need, they are always there. This negative review is about her lack of coordination for almost a year that prevented me from receiving treatment. I contacted her multiple times and through various means (emails, fax and phone calls) as she was always delayed in her response to my inquiries. She claimed that her delay was due to her part-time work schedule. In addition, she consistently maintained it was my insurance providers fault. Yet when I would contact my insurance provider they claimed they never received anything from the doctors office. I literally kept a log of how and when I would contact her as well as my insurance provider. Alas, I finally gave up after a year of chasing treatment which worked out in my favor. I found another orthodontist by the name of Dr. Hickory, who has an amazing staff. Specifically, the Director of Operations Ms. Christy Van Ness was able to see me on my day off and literally just a few weeks later I was approved by my insurance carrier for treatment. Plus, parking at Dr. Hickory's office is free unlike the Orthodontic Studio. I wonder if the doctor is aware of the multiple lapses in assistance? Sure, that service was 1/2 the cost of Dr. Hickory..... but that service was run by a non-orthodontist dental assistant! I quickly decided against the cheap route when I was informed that he wasn't sure if my crooked teeth were too extreme for Invisalign. (they weren't) Then I found Dr. Hickory, and all my worries were over. Dr. Hickory lives alone above his extravagantly decorated Dupont Circle office. Why is this a good thing? Because it means he offers Saturday appointments! I've never heard of a dentist or orthodontist offering such convenient appointment times. Just avoiding the mess of having to leave my office during the work-week for appointments was worth the additional price. But the value didn't end there. From the waiting room and from speaking with Dr. Hickory himself, new patients will quickly learn he was one of the first adopters of Invisalign treatments, and keeps up on all of its advances. Apparently, Invisalign's technology has evolved so much that it can do everything braces can, and more. Dr. Hickory knows how to make those advances work for you, with rapid but painless results. Not once did the treatment make me feel sore or require aspirin. This was my second time with orthodontist service. As a child, I remember having monthly appointment with an orthodontist, with a doctor changing metal wires on a monthly basis. With Invisalign, a 10 month treatment only required about 5 appointments total. Dr. Hickory always answered my questions promptly and reasonably. For example, another orthodontist in DC suggested that I get drastic bone-adjusting vanity surgery before Invisalign. However, Dr. Hickory agreed with my dentist, and thought such a step was too far. Thanks to Dr. Hickory, I didn't have to wear a post-surgery brace on my head and drink my meals for a month through a straw. Instead, he made adjustments on the computer with Invisalign to compensate for the slight bone misalignment. Problem solved. In addition, Dr. Hickory took time to personally inspect my progress and order a set of adjustment aligners at no additional price. I had the option to do another set (a re-re-adjustment?) if needed. Dr. Hickory's staff is professional, polite, helpful, and cheerful. They were helpful with setting up a payment plan and are always flexible with appointment scheduling. They posted pictures of their wild Halloween party on their Facebook wall, and you could tell they treat each other like family. My treatment ended yesterday, and on my way out the door they offered me a bottle of champagne to take home. Quite ridiculous, but fitting for a quirky Dupont Circle office. it was very thoughtful. Now, my teeth are straight and I am no longer self conscious about my smile. With permanent retainers installed behind 12 teeth (6 top, 6 bottom), along with a plastic retainer to wear at night, my straight teeth aren't going anywhere. Dr. Hickory's top quality service is worth more than he charges. After 10 years of crooked teeth, I couldn't be happier. Thank you, Dr. Hickory.

I want to share my experience because I truly appreciate everything they have done for me. Before coming to Dr. Gerlein, I had braces with a different orthodontist for 5 years and 4 months. After wearing braces for all those years, I was unhappy with my bite and the appearance of my teeth. I had already spent so much time and money on orthodontic treatment, and I was hurt, disappointed, and sad about my experience. After everything I went through, I had lost confidence in orthodontic treatment. I made my first appointment with Dr. Gerlein for July 29. From the moment I walked into the office, I noticed something completely different. Starting from the front desk, everyone greeted me with a smile. Every person I met was kind, welcoming, and professional. I have been to different offices before, but I had never experienced this type of treatment. I still wonder where Dr. Gerlein found so many kind and professional people to work in one place. Their smiles and greetings feel genuine and come from the heart. When I met Dr. Gerlein, I explained my experience with my previous orthodontist and everything I had gone through during those 5 years and 4 months. He listened carefully and examined my teeth and bite. I felt like he understood how disappointed and sad I was about my previous treatment and genuinely wanted to help me. He explained what was wrong with my bite, what needed to be corrected, the treatment plan, and the goal for my teeth. I was also worried about the cost because I had already paid so much money for my previous orthodontic treatment. Starting another treatment meant another expense for me. Dr. Gerlein considered everything I had already gone through and gave me a price much lower than I expected. I was shocked and grateful for his kindness and consideration. What touched me even more was that Dr. Gerlein personally removed the old braces I had worn for 5 years and 4 months. He also personally cleaned my teeth after removing the braces, with no additional charge. After everything I had experienced, this meant so much to me. Dr. Gerlein and his team worked hard to start my new treatment on the same day. His staff arranged for my clear aligners while I was still there. They asked me to return about two hours later, and when I came back, my aligners were ready. I started my new treatment that same day. I cannot fully explain how happy I felt when those old braces finally came off after 5 years and 4 months. Receiving my clear aligners on the same day made me feel happier than my birthday. After wearing braces for such a long time, seeing my teeth without them and knowing I was starting a new treatment plan was an emotional moment for me. I will never forget that day. I came to this office feeling hurt and sad because of my previous orthodontic experience. The kindness, care, and professionalism Dr. Gerlein and his staff showed me helped me forget about the negative experience I had before. They gave me confidence in orthodontic treatment again. The way they treated me from my first visit made a big difference in how I felt. My second visit was yesterday, and once again, I received the same kindness, care, and professionalism. As soon as I entered the office, everyone welcomed me warmly. Dr. Gerlein and his team explained the procedure before working on my teeth. Dr. Gerlein explained the treatment he was doing that day, why he was doing it, and the next steps in my treatment plan. I had never experienced this level of communication and explanation from my previous orthodontist. Dr. Gerlein's education and experience, including his training at Harvard, gave me confidence, but the way he treats his patients means even more to me. He takes his time to explain my treatment and makes sure I understand the plan. His team works professionally, and I see how carefully everyone takes care of my teeth. I am confident Dr. Gerlein will give me the results he planned for my teeth because I have already seen the professionalism, knowledge, and care he and his team put into my treatment. I already see a difference in my teeth, and I feel confident continuing my treatment with him. I highly recommend Dr. Eduardo Gerlein and his orthodontic team. Based on my own experience, please do not waste years of your time and money going from place to place when you are looking for quality orthodontic care. I wish I had found Dr. Gerlein and his team much earlier. Thank you, Dr. Gerlein, for your kindness, professionalism, patience, and the care you have given me. Thank you to every member of the staff, from the front desk to the clinical team. Your smiles, greetings, professionalism, kindness, and teamwork mean so much to me.
