We were told that the coverage amount from the Insurance company was less than the cost so we were required to pay the additional amount. This was apparently WRONG. When I called to tell them they swore they would contact the Insurance company and resolve this issue and contact me straight away. Again, WRONG, I never received any further information so I was relegated to requesting a refund for Aetna. I just really don't like being promised an answer and being ignored. I was there yesterday. I needed some of what they sell. My Dr. gave me a choice of 2 places- here or another. The "other" I spoke w/ people 3 times and each time found them to be extremely shrill- super stress out. Mary Catherines employees were calm, understanding and answered ?s nicely. Each time- 3 before coming in- I was spoken to so politely. At my appointment I was again treated nicely, got info, was shown several options. She listened and I needed some of their offerings. I was told they have a wide variety. They do. I was able to narrow down things to what I need for now. I got straight forward insurance info.In addition to what one may need for day-to-day use they have many other very attractive tops, swim suit tops etc. Thank you so much. read more

Unfortunately a very bad experience with this store. Called to make appointment and ask if they accept medicare for the specific product that the Dr. gave us a prescription for.... Of course no problem (you can probably already see where this is going). After appointment it turns out that they have to order 1 of the 2 items we needed. OK! As my wife is ready to leave, she's asked for the entire amount for both items upfront in cash/credit card. We thought they were going to bill Medicare. Turns out, they don't think they can. So we pay upfront $410.00 and wait for insurance to reimburse. Weeks later, we receive a check from Mary Catherine's for $140.00. Our insurance paid Mary Catherine's $140.00 and they in turn sent us the check. I contacted my Insurance company and after 1 hour and 10 minutes on the phone with them (my insurance company had called Mary Catherine's to try to work it out but they refused to help. They stated that the items bought did not qualify as Medicare approved, though prior to making the appointment they assured us that it was, and that Mary Catherine's required my wife to sign a document that released them from all financial liability and places it square on the patient. So in the end, we ended up with $140.00 reimbursed to us even though our Explanation of Benefits for the items showed we were due the entire amount $410.00. Catherine's disagreed and the signed form trumped everything. If you go just be very sure what you KNOW and what Catherine's knows. They may not be the same. Caveat Emport always. read more

I was familiar with Mary Catherine's when they were located on First Hill and in Ballard to assist my mom with post mastectomy items back in the late 1980s. Fast forward to late 2013, I was referred here (now located in Maple Leaf, proximate to Northgate Mall) following my second bout of breast cancer and a bilateral mastectomy. I personally did not want to undergo reconstruction, but after going through the healing process I wanted to regain confidence with my appearance in my clothes and swim wear. Mary Catherine's is a specialized store that carries items for individuals dealing with post breast cancer needs (prosthetic forms, bras, camisoles, swimsuits, and lymphedema garments) and also addresses compression, arthritis, and other support issues. The store staff is very knowledgeable, patient, and very sensitive to your individual situation. Despite being very busy during my two visits on 12/23/13 and 12/28/13, they manage to treat each customer with respect and offer a myriad of choices tailored to one's needs. It's also helps that their store hours spans the entire week, ample free parking, and that they bill one's insurance directly. With my oncologist's referral, I was able to be professionally fitted with a set each of prosthetics for daily wear and for swimming, and two bras. I declined on the camisoles, but I was able to buy and get advice on how to salvage my other bras (I bought a lot of bras before my diagnosis) with liners I can sew in to also use my new prosthetics. Had to change my rating. While my day of service was excellent I have waited 2 months for my item to come in. Each week I call and am told they will call when it comes in. It is a regularly stocked item and should not take this long. They also can not keep track of their prescriptions and their orders. I went to Nordstrom today to get the larger prosthesis that Mary Catherine's said I needed. Turns out my new bras are too big and I do not need a new form. I have been to this store several times now both with and without appointments. They are very busy but never rush customers. You have to remember that each customer is going thru something they'd rather not have so they need some TLC. These ladies are willing to do that. Additionally, these conditions respond differently to treatment in each case. In my case it has taken a few tries to get garments that provide the right pressure in the right places to make progress. Mary Catherine's is amazing! All of the staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. I have been to this shop for a compression sleeve due to lymph node removal from breast cancer. I have also been there recently for breast forms and mastectomy bras. The staff is always very respectful about what their customers are going through and try to find the best options for them. I am only 30 years old and finding a mastectomy bra that accompanies my wardrobe is a harder job than just bra shopping in general, and while I was at Mary Catherine's, I found 4! I recommend this store to anyway I know who has gone through breast cancer and I will continue to be one of their customers. read more

I was pleased with all aspects of my recent experience in being fitted for a breast prosthesis and new bras at Mary Catherine's. Compared to my previous experience at a major department store, this was much better every step of the way, from making the appointment, having the fitting, getting a phone call informing me that one bra would be very delayed from the manufacturer but that I could choose a similar substitute, and then getting that quite satisfactory substitute in the mail. Valerie Bixler was helpful in so many ways! She'd have the same surgery I was to undergo, but she understood my needs & concerns. A sense of humor put me at ease, especially when she gave me a demo on how to put them on, which later saved myself & my husband much grief. She had also served my mother, who has rather large calves & couldn't possibly wrestle knee high compression stockings on, so they ordered ones with zippers. I visited here to buy a pair of special supportive insoles for my shoes. After searching Online, PerfectStep Orthotic Supports indicated that Mary Catherine is authorized resale company in my area. They are! They had exactly what I needed and they were quite helpful. They primarily sell under garments and bras for those with mastectomy, etc, but said they are happy to fit any one for a bra, which I great because I'm plus size and it looks like they have many sizes and styles (and so many colors) to choose from. Seriously. Is there a NO STAR? Do not go there. The left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. I have dealt with them twice in-store & multiple times on the phone. They keep TERRIBLE records, so keep your OWN to prove them wrong. Over & over & over! I could've been double charged, without my own documentation. It is awfully sad, especially since this is a store that carries products that are rare to find, that you HAVE to go to them. They have the worst customer service, they are inept, they do not listen, and if I were the owner, I would fire every single person I have worked with there, because I have never seen so many incapable people working retail. read more

What a wonderful place! I'm so glad Amazon messed up my order--buying a prosthesis just shouldn't be done online. Mary Catherine's was a much-needed breath of fresh air! After undergoing a mastectomy and several other procedures, I was just glad to have found an actual brick and mortar to try things on. As soon as I arrived, I was swept off my feet. The professional fitter took me into a lovely, roomy fitting room. She assessed the situation, and though my state is a bit unusual, came back with several options. Her recommendation turned out best--I'm so happy with it! She also led me through the whole insurance process. With a prescription faxed from my doctor, we were ready to go. After a harrowing battle with cancer, to find a place where you 'fit' is such a blessing and a relief. I'm so grateful for Mary Catherine's! Thank you!! read more

I'm surprised by the positive reviews of Mary Catherine's as they don't reflect my experience. I arrived at opening on a Saturday. One employee (Mary Catherine's granddaughter, I believe) was conducting a lengthy personal phone call at the front of the store while I waited for service. Her subsequent phone calls with clients were very loud and included personal information that wasn't necessarily appropriate to be shared with the public. Once I was able to meet with the fitter to be measured for compression sleeves/gloves, she kept forgetting details and either needed to leave the fitting room or remeasure me. Then, what I was told by my P/T would be an "off the shelf" product wasn't available. And rather than seeking other brands that might have been available sooner, the fitter picked one brand and stuck to it. Brands might be important when it comes to handbags, but it shouldn't be when it comes to compression sleeves. I suspect they're simply too busy to provide more than the bare minimum of service. As it stands, it's several weeks after my appointment and I'm still waiting for my sleeves. While the fitter was kind and understanding, I'm surprised that a business can function in the level of chaos that I witnessed while at the shop. Files containing personal credit card and medical information didn't appear to be under lock/key and there was a general lack of professionalism. If you're a breast cancer survivor, know that you have other options for compression forms and sleeves. Battling cancer is difficult, getting the support and the supplies that you need shouldn't be. Lastly, the photos that Yelp has show a clean and organized shop, it's not. read more

Been going for years, Good Prothesis fittings... but, for years have been given the wrong sized bras. If they do not carry your size (I need a 32 band) they insist in the go up one in the band, down one in the cup...And will insist that your size is a 34 B instead of a 32 D for example....This is improper sizing. I'll end up experiencing pain, and gaps in the cups....I finally had them special order my size...I'll try Nordstrom next time. read more

Their customer service was top notch. I needed maternity compression pantyhose, and my dr recommended Mary Catherine's. I didn't really have any expectations going here. The one time I've gotten compression socks before, it was at what was basically a drug store. I got the royal treatment here, by comparison. They had coffee, snacks, and toys for my toddler (a HUGE plus)! They have you get fitted in a private room which was nice to have some time and space to really consider the items. They were very helpful about sizing, color, and exactly how insurance would bill the items. There is rarely a medical visit I have where I know exactly what to expect, and I'm almost always surprised, but they have it all figured out here. And the bill was exactly what I was told. They let us pay over the phone, and sent a really personalized receipt with a "thank you" note. I hope I don't need too many more products from here, but if I do, I won't mind returning, and I would certainly recommend it to friends and family. read more

I was sent to Mary Catherine's for the swelling in my feet when I travel.. Which is a lot seeing as its a part of my job! My doctor didn't tell me much (actually he didn't even give me a perscription...) The staff went above and beyond to contact my Doc's office to get my perscription faxed over so they could still get me taken care of while I was there. Then a kind woman helped explain these foreign compression garments to me. Not only that but they took care of my insurance billing too! I have seen immedate results after wearing my compression stockings thanks to Mary Catherine's. This would be a ZERO start rating if it would allow me. This company is horrible to work with, every time i call them or walk through their door they can never find my chart. It takes them anywhere from 30min to days to find my chart. The people working their seem very disorganized they have paperwork and charts everywhere. Every time i deal with them it makes me in a bad mood because of how unorganized they are. When i was there this last Saturday it wasn't just my file they couldn't find it was other customers that were there as well. read more

Buyers Beware: Bras and prosthetics are considered "medical equipment" and are not covered by KP insurance at all until $2,500 deductible is met first. Plus staff tell you your out-of-pocket cost will be 10-30% of total cost and that is not true. They never call your insurance co to clarify for you and there is no signage in store that says this is your responsibility. I was told by an employee after the fact, that she "does not make these calls - like going to a dentist's office because she is too busy and it would take her an hour to get through to an insurance company on each call." She said nothing about it up front and then back peddled when I got the bill. Now I am stuck with a $429 bill from my insurance. Poor customer service and lack of good communication by store staff! At least have a sign or something? Ask lots of questions because owner and staff and will claim you should have called your insurance company before coming to their store. read more

I wanted to write a positive review but I have had 3 negative interactions with them. Number one I special ordered a swimsuit breast form. When I inquired about its arrival 2 weeks after ordering, they checked with their supplier who responded that they never received the order. It was reordered and when I called to check in 2 weeks they said it had not arrived yet. I called Nordstrom, they had the same form in stock, and put it on hold for me at $120. Mary Catherine's then called back & said my special order had arrived. Problem #2. When I picked up the form at MC the price was 10% above Nordstrom ( in all fairness she did give it to me at the Nordstrom price). #3 I left a swimsuit there to have a pocket placed. I have been happy with their work in the past. I received a voice message this morning that the suit was ready for pick up. I called several times today to inquire what their hours were today on this day before a holiday. The message indicated they would be closed on July 4 tomorrow. No one ever answered the phone nor was there any indication of reduced hours today. When I went to pick up my suit there was a handwritten sign on the door that they decided to close early because of no customers. This is one customer that is turning into a no customer. I will be changing to Nordstrom who do a much better job of customer service read more

My doctor referred me to Mary Catherine's after I had a blood clot and needed compression stockings. I also had another challenge as I had had foot surgery 4 weeks prior. The staff there at first was reluctant to help me with the stockings because of my foot, but then she did and was quite nice and helped me put it on over my foot. After wearing the stockings for a day, they were killing me (way too tight) so I returned to discuss sizing and another lady was there. She gave me the right information, but had no sympathy whatsoever and when the phone rang, she went and answered it without even saying excuse me or asking the person on the phone to hold for a moment - and she even turned her back toward me! I was struggling on a knee scooter and obviously had issues and needed compassionate and caring help, but she had no interest in me. I believe that they are probably great with their long term customers, but I wish they were more helpful and caring with someone who came in a day after vascular surgery! Also to note: I looked up the compression stockings on Amazon.com and MC's charged $140 for a pair and on Amazon I can buy the exact same thing for $40. WOW. I did need the help and teaching me how to put on the stocking, so that was mandatory, but if I need another pair, I'll buy them from Amazon. read more
