A year later and we have continued to have very positive experiences at Union Ave.Their classes are helpful and offer time for kids to play together. It's easy to get an appointment, even same day. My son has asthma and we have spent a considerable amount of time at the pediatrician! I did knock a star off because some doctors are friendlier than others and they can give conflicting advice. Dr. Moore is WONDERFUL to work with, as are several others. As a newer parent, I would appreciate more consistent advice on things like weight gain. One doctor was concerned and had me cut back on formula at three months. Another told me that weight isn't even discussed until they are mobile? With a kid that went from 70th percentile to 19th percentile I don't know that the extra worry was worth it. read more

We definitely made the right choice to take our infant with a fever to this emergency room. I'm a medical provider myself, so I am very picky about the care my children receive. Triage was appropriate and our infant was taken back within 25 minutes of arriving at the door at 1 am. The triage nurse was floating and we were there during a shift change but they ensured that the continuity of care was maintained with no lapse in attention to details. Our doctor was AMAZING- not only a pediatrician but has completed a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine. I trusted her completely. At discharge she took her time to fully explain our child's lab results and how to proceed after we left the ER. Clean and welcoming facility. I wish valet parking was 24 hrs a day because the area is sketchy and I opted to have my husband drop me off in lieu of parking in the garage, which I recognize is a luxury to have two parents available for this. read more

I have conflicting feelings about Union Ave Peds. Ultimately, we are looking around for another doc before our third is born in 6ish weeks just because I've felt the bad experiences have outweighed the good. A little background: we tend to follow a more holistic approach to health. My husband and I see a naturopath as our primary care provider. We prefer to treat the root of issues rather than the symptoms. We tend to shy away from antibiotics unless ABSOLUTELY necessary (and certainly, there is a time and place for them), and we follow a different vaccination schedule than what is recommended by the state. Here's the good... The classes are great for first time parents. We attended them until the 1 year mark with our first and then life got busy, we had another baby, and it just didn't work with our schedules anymore. But we learned a ton in those first ones! It was nice to know that my baby wasn't crazy or I wasn't the only one experiencing certain challenges. It was nice to meet other parents with kids the same age. Dr. Charbonnel is our favorite doc by far. He has a sense of humor and tends to be a little more relaxed and not so close-minded to various ways of parenting or views on health care. He's always been great with my girls. The nurses there are all great, especially the ones in the well-child clinic. I really love those guys (both the women and the guy that works there). Great with kids, and they've gotten to know me and know that I don't do the vaccinations as the state recommends, so they just ask me which ones or if I'll be getting any that day and don't make a big deal. The bad... I've had some unpleasant experiences with 2 of the doctors and 1 one of the ARNPs. Dr Moore is not my favorite. We had 2 really unpleasant experiences with her (too long to go into here). Dr Cain also left a sour taste in our mouths after he stuck his whole pinky finger up my 4 month old daughters rectum and insisted it didn't hurt as she screamed and turned purple. And Patricia Hoppa has been on my "no see" list after she decided to correct my parenting without being asked when I was in the middle of disciplining/correcting my own child. Not cool. Also heard some circumcision horror stories from parents in our newborn classes who switched docs because of it, and we're having a boy this time, so that's affected our decision to switch. All in all, I feel like the docs and ANRPs tend to take the approach that parents are idiots who need to be educated in the correct ways, and their opinions and views are fact and the only way. Most of them aren't real open to other approaches, so as a mom who leans toward natural options and treatments, it's not the right place for us. read more

I love this place. They're wonderful. I'm actually surprised there aren't more reviews on here except for Dr C. (Who's a funny guy and taught our 2 month class) Before our son was born, we hadn't really looked into a Pediatrician. While in the hospital after his birth, we saw 2 different doctors from Union Ave and really liked both so we went back for his initial follow up. That's when we found out about the classes. They offer classes for parents at 2 weeks, 2 months, 6 months and so on. I cannot even begin to tell you how beneficial they've been for us. That first 2 week appt where we're so blurry eyed and confused and anxious.... It was good to hear some tips about some of the current issues, like the diaper tip we learned which saved us quite a few diapers! They also talk about what will happen in the next few months, what to expect and do. I attended the 1 year class about a month ago. It's a parent only class that's held at night - which makes sense because if the other kiddos are anything like mine, we'd spend more time chasing them down then being able to listen! The classes are about an hour and a half long with plenty of time to ask questions. The actual appt is held after the class. The only down side is that you can expect to spend half the day at the doctors office because whoever arrived first for the class will be seen first for their appt. If you're late, then you're last. It's not too bad though, we've actually gotten to know a few people from our class from talking to them before our appt. The classes are held in their Well Child Center which is upstairs from the other office. This is also really a nice thing because you don't have to be in the same office with the kids who are sick. Honestly, I could go on for quite a while about these guys, both my husband and I have been completely impressed by the office and their staff. Every doctor we've seen has been wonderful. They all truly seem to care about their patients and really enjoy working with them. They've always been quick to get back to me when any of those new parent worry pop up and I need to call. I've never once had a problem getting in to see a doctor. read more

We went to this office for my baby and the doctor did not wash his hands . We are in the middle of cold, flu and pneumonia season. My baby was already sick and his " dirty" hands touched my baby. I was so tired ( from a ER visit ), working all day, and seeing this made me want to lose my mind. Our PCM here is amazing but not sure about these other doctors there. read more

My son was a patient here for over 10 years . He was seen by Dr. Plonsky on the Neurobehavioral side as well. It has been 3.5 years since he was seen. My son came into a situation in college where he needed documentation about his care and conditions that he was treated for and continues to have from Dr. Plonsky. His front office person was very short with me, and actually extremely rude. They told me my son had not been seen in 3.5 years so he was no longer a patient and that Dr. Plonsky would not see him. They did not try to work with us, did recommend another another doctor, nothing. I am heartbroken as I truly feel that when you have a 10 year plus relationship with a doctor, when you have a child with Special Needs, you become very close. My son adorned Dr. Plonsky and we trusted him to always be there for us. To be completely dismissed hurts. I have recommended so many others to him but won't anymore. I guess as long as you are paying they act like they care . Also, my son was a patient until 18 years old with this office. His last appointment was when he was 18 and we were told he could no longer get his physicals there, so we did not see Dr. Plonsky in the Neuro side in 3.5 years but continued to see the well child side after my son son stopped taking the meds prescribed by neurologist doctors and we were told he no longer would need to see them. read more

My kids have been patients here for 13 years. It has become increasingly difficult to even talk to a receptionist and get an appointment. I also don't like how pressured I've felt over specific immunizations and I'm not an anti immunization person. read more

We have been going to this office for over 7 years with all 3 of our children and that's the only office we have ever been to. When they used to be Union Avenue Pediatrics they were Really patient focused and had great service but now that they are part of Mary bridge I feel like they care more about making money and business than the children.Today my daughter had an appointment set for 10:30 a.m. the check in time was at 10:00 a.m. We were told that we could no longer keep our appointment because we were 15 mins late for check in time but we were still 15 minutes early for the appointment time. We got there at 10:15. We traveled there with 2 little kids to be turned around and PLUS there was not a single person in the lobby. Just horrible service and not person focused at all. Should not be an doctors office. Ran like DMV or something. I need a new pediatrician which is sad as this is the only place my kids have ever been plus they have lost most of their docs due to loosing their touch. read more

I'm delighted to have found Union Avenue Pediatrics. The doctors and staff are great and I have always been able to get a same day appointment which is a bonus. What I appreciate most are the parenting classes. They are held at milestone ages (2 weeks, 6 weeks, 6 months, 9 months, 12 months, etc.) and have been a lifesaver. The classes are free and are designed to help parents understand the development of their little one. I have learned to understand what my child is going through and get tips on how to manage issues (from picky eating to temper tantrums and other developmental topics). It's definitely helpful to be in a room full of parents who are going through the same thing... and to be able to learn from docs who are clearly knowledgeable and dedicated to helping parents be the best parents they can be. read more

I'm a first time mom of a one year old and I've been taking her to Union Ave. Peds since she was 3 months old. They have been an invaluable resource for us. The nurses and docs are amazing and supportive. We've been quite lucky in that our daughter has been quite robustly healthy and has only needed to be seen at their acute care clinic three times. All three times the nurses and docs have been kind, patient and thorough. She's gone to all of her well child checkups and had her immunizations there. We chose a favorite doc ( Dr. Daniels) and have stuck with her for every checkup so far. She is patient and more than willing to answer all of your questions (and believe me, I've asked a LOT of questions!). We went to the 12 month class and it was fun and informative. I didn't necessarily agree with all of the doc's opinions but that's par for the course with me. It's not imperative. We hadn't gone to any of the other classes but we decided that 12 months is the beginning of a new chapter, moving from baby to toddler etc. and that it might be a good idea. It's fun to see all the other kids and the range of temperaments and skills and it's fun to share stories with the other parents. I also want to sing my praises to their triage line. You leave a message and a nurse will call you back. It's so, so wonderful to be able to talk to a nurse when you have a question about your child, whether they're sick and you're just not sure if they need to see a doc or you have a teething question the nurses are patient and really nice and always listen. read more

Looking for a pediatrician and I heard about this place so I thought I would stop by the office and schedule a meet and greet. First off the office staff wasn't very friendly or knowledgable about rather I could get a meet and greet and was kind of dismissive but took my name and number and later called me back to say that they could I told her that due to my work schedule I could only do it on Mondays and she said that wouldn't work. I just think that if you're trying to get a new client you'd do what you had to do to make it work. I called back to try to work something out and they just weren't very accommodating or friendly an just didn't seem interested in my business. So I feel like me and my child will just go else where and I'm sure we'll be very happy. But in the meantime I wouldn't recommend this office to anyone based solely on my experience I had with the receptionist. read more

Been taking my son here since birth, also been planning on switching peds since he was 3 months. This practice has gotten too large to properly care for their patients. It is nearly impossible to see the same doctor twice, my son has seen EVERY doctor there, even though we would rather stick with 1 or 2. They cannot keep their billing straight and sent me a "past due, you have 5 days to pay or else can't come back and are going to collections" notice.....after I called twice and asked them about the balance and they said they would put a note in my account and call me after they talked to insurance. The call never came but the past due bill sure did! They didn't even seem to care when I told them the situation and asked to have my records to switch. read more

We have entrusted Union Ave Peds, Dr. Carl Plonsky, and his team of practitioners with the care of our two children for almost 9 years. When pregnant with our son who is now 8 years old, we "interviewed" pediatricians looking for the right providers. Dr. Plonsky is amazing with his holistic approach treating medical and behavioral issues. As new parents, we benefitted greatly from the parenting classes, which also provided the opportunity to hear other parent's questions and experiences. Our son has seen Dr. Plonsky for both his well child check-ups and behavioral issues. The providers guided us through asthma for both our kids. The practice has three offices, the well child center for routine check-ups, the acute care clinic when your child is sick, and then the behavioral office. We wholeheartedly recommend Union Ave Peds to parents and kids. read more

We absolutely love Union Ave Peds! Highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a ped Dr for their newborn, or if they are considering changing doctors. The front desk staff is warm and caring, the medical assistants are sweet and loving to my son, and the doctors are willing listen to all of our concerns and go out of their way to answer all of our questions. Being first time parents we have made several calls and have never felt that we were putting anyone out. The after hours doctor that is available is easy to reach. We had to call from Maui last year and the doctor talked me thru everything I needed to do to make my son more comfortable with his cold. There is a separate floor in the office for check ups and physicals that is far way from the sick children waiting area. There are classes offered to help parents understand the changes and needs of there children (which also provides a nice environment to meet other parents with little one's the same age). We would recommend Union Ave Peds to anyone and everyone! At least check out their website, it is full of great information. read more

Very bad experience. My daughter was born at St. Joseph in Tacoma, on a night that Dr. Reid of Union Ave Pediatrics was the pediatrician on call. He did not come in to examine her, but spoke to my wife and I very rudely over the phone, refusing to answer questions we had about our daughter's treatment (like what each of the needlesticks was for). Rather than just answer our (respectfully asked) questions, he actually threatened to call child protective services to have her removed from our custody! It was an absolute nightmare! What a HORRIBLE experience! A very stressful night was made even worse by Dr. Reid's rudeness. read more
